Ontario RPN to RN Bridging into Fall 2022 - Trent, McMaster, UOIT
Hey, I hope you're doing well. I was in your position before. I graduated with a 3.5 average in RPN school. I wouldn't advice on repeating courses. Some universities do not accept repeated courses. I'm currently at UOIT for the RPN to BScN bridging now. My best advice is to take an elective/core nursing courses (Coronary Care, Nephrology, OR) and do well in it. Then use these to apply at UOIT to increase your chances of getting in. I wish you the best of luck!

UOIT/Ontario Tech University RPN to BScN program
I’m not sure what you mean. Are you someone with a degree already and is looking to do a 2 year accelerated nursing? Are you an RPN already? If you put a lot of effort into it, it’s doable. My advice is to maintain a competitive average in the RPN program. Make sure you graduate with a GPA of 3.7-4.0. Do better now and try not to repeat any courses as there are some schools that don’t accept repeated courses during the bridging program.

UOIT/Ontario Tech University RPN to BScN program
Hello everyone, I just received an acceptance for the RPN to BScN program at UOIT/Ontario Tech U. I'm so overjoyed that I finally got in as it took me about 3 tries to get this spot. Any alumni or anyone currently doing this program? I would love to hear your thoughts!

George Brown or Centennial - RPN to BSCN Bridge for Sept 2021
For Centennial College, what does it mean by “Progran Waitlisted”? Am I to assume that there were way too many applicants this year? And for George Brown College, I agree. The stress of waiting is stressful. And to make things worse, starting September 2022, they won’t accept upgraded courses for their intake. Which means George Brown and Centennial won’t be allowing students with repeated courses. I am honestly feeling defeated when it comes to this. It’s so competitive to get into any bridging programs.

Ontario RPN monthly take home after taxes
Depends on where you work. I believe long term care starts between $24-$26, and if you work for the City, it's between $32-$36. I work in the hospital setting so I earn an hourly of $31.50. As a full timer, my take home pay biweekly would be around $1600-$1800. Part timers do get a lot more because of their additional 13% lieu in benefits. Hope this helps!

George Brown or Centennial - RPN to BSCN Bridge for Sept 2021
My GPA was 3.5. I'm hoping it's just the CNO registration that they waiting for/need. I agree, I understand that they likely closed a lot of departments due to this pandemic, but there should be someone to directly help us out. Do they have a January or May intake? I remember looking for one for this year but I didn't see any. I'll have to apply for those intake then I guess. How's your application coming along? Any news?

George Brown or Centennial - RPN to BSCN Bridge for Sept 2021
Just received a response as well from Centennial College today saying I am waitlisted. I sent them my Proof of Registration with the CNO but I don't think they updated it. They now told me to send one through OCAS. Am I the only one having difficulty figuring out who their Admissions Advisor is? The contact centre gave me three different names this time now.

Applied for Sept 2021 intake RPN with highschool U marks - QUESTIONS!!
I would suggest the part time program at Seneca. You will be taking courses at their Don Mills campus and it really helped me a lot. Your classes will be at night between 6-10 pm (never stayed there until 10, always left between 8:30-9:30 pm). It's really up to you on how many courses you want to take and you're not forced to take all courses in one semester. I am truly grateful for this program as I was able to balance work and school together.

When to start applying for jobs? Last Semester PN program
I'd suggest applying for jobs 2-3 weeks after you have done and passed your CPNRE. That's what I did, applied for a couple of jobs and landed a job the week I received the confirmation letter from CNO. Best of luck!

Anyone work 12 hour hospital shifts?
Hello everyone, I have a question about scheduling. I work at a hospital that does 12 hour days/night shifts. I am the only full time Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in the unit and I find that my schedule has been all over the place. The unit has been scheduling me for their unit needs/convenience and I can’t seem to map out my future schedule since they only release a 6 week schedule at a certain time period. I know the regular shifts that you can get with working a 12 hour shift would be 7 shifts biweekly. Sometimes I get 6 shifts in a pay period (I asked my unit clerk and she said that my shifts would need to average out to 75 hours in 3 months). I’d appreciate if someone can enlighten me with this situation. Thanks!

Working at LTC- What is your daily routine?
Hello everyone! About me: I am a new graduate RPN (Registered Practical Nurse) here in Ontario. I was lucky enough to get a job at the long term care home (I worked here as a Personal Support Worker before I transitioned to the RPN role). I just finished my 1/3 shift, and to my summarize my day, I was quite overwhelmed! I did my final placement of my RPN program at a hospital so doing longterm care for me is a total 360 (different rules, protocols, etc). I made sure to jot done notes on what my trainer said so I can look back to it once I go on my own. For my next shift, which will be an evening (1500-2300pm) shift, what kind of questions should I ask my trainer? Also, would you be able to share me your strategies/your daily routine? Your help is much appreciated!

Medication Administration Certificate- is this worth taking?
Hello everyone! I would like to ask for your advice about the Medication Administration Certificate- I'm looking into taking this at Humber College. The certificate consists of three courses: -IV Therapy/Phlebotomy -Medication Administration Theory -Medication Administration Lab About me: I'm a new graduate nurse (Registered Practical Nurse). When I look through job postings online, I usually see hospitals asking for a Medication Administration and Health Assessment certificates. I talked to my other nursing peers who have years of nursing experience, and they said these courses are unnecessary because the hospital will train you with IV initiation/therapy. I'm kind of puzzled now. What do you think- should I take this course?

Seneca (Yorkgate) Practical Nursing 01/2017
Hello everyone! First off, to the writer who said "Is Yorkgate in the Jane and Finch area? You have never heard of any crime in that area?", Yes, the Yorkgate Campus is in the Jane and Finch area. Jane and Finch, just so you know is actually a decent place to live in. I have lived here all my life. The media always focuses on Jane and Finch so much that everyone gets a notion that this area is dangerous. THERE ARE CRIMES EVERYWHERE. There's no safe place in the city. On a lighter note, I just finished the Seneca College program and graduated this October 2016, wrote my nursing registration exam the same month and passed it this November. I went to the Part Time Practical Nursing route- which was done at Newnham Campus at Finch and Don Mills. This was ideal for me because I was able to go to work in the morning and take the nursing courses in the evening. I took about 4-5 courses every semester and it took me 2 years to finish everything. Courses wise: What I like about Seneca was every course were straight forward and related to the program. (Not unlike other colleges). First semester would be a little overwhelming because you will all juggle your time with the introductory courses: Clinical, Anatomy, Psychology, etc. Make sure to keep all your notes because at the very end, on your final semester, you will have to do a pre-nursing registration exam everything you've learned in the program is testable. Placement wise: 2nd semester Clinical- Cedarvale Long Term Care 3rd Semester- Sunnybrook 4th Semester- St. Joseph's Health Centre 5th semester/consolidation- Humber River Hospital If you have any other questions, feel free to ask and I'll be here to answer those.
