New ATI TEAS exam allows calculator
Hi, fischek, CNA. I hear you! There's so much information about the TEAS V, but the new test is a little bit of a mystery, and that's kind of scary. You are completely correct that the new test will be A+P heavy. On the new test, A+P is about 2/3 of the science section and is 21 percent of the test overall (it was only 7 percent of the last test). The timing of the sections has also changed a bit, but you're still getting about the same amount of time per question in each section. Overall, the test is 209 minutes. The tightest section is English--you'll have a minute per question. Math and reading seem to be the hardest sections to finish, though, based on what I've heard from students who took the TEAS V. Of course you can ask where I get my info. :) Love it when someone checks out the source instead of trusting blindly! I teach a TEAS V prep course, so that means I spend way more time thinking about the TEAS than is healthy, ha. For the new test, I have the new official manual and attended webinars hosted by the ATI for college staff. I also have my own spreadsheets where I reverse engineer the material so that I can teach it in class---like I said, I spend way more time thinking about the test than is recommended--but I don't work for the ATI or anything like that. Aiming for October or November sounds like a great plan. You are thinking ahead and researching your options. I wish you a ton of luck studying!! You can do it!! :)

TEAS VI - Calculators?
The TEAS is changing the math section so that many of the questions won't actually need a calculator. They wouldn't be that nice, right?! :) For the new version of the test, you'll have a lot more math questions that ask you to, basically, show your work. You'll be given a multiple-step problem, and then you have to select the answer option that is the proper method--instead of actually answering with a number. Frankly, it's kinda hard! The new version of the test also reduces the number of questions that rely on calculations. You'll still need to calculate with fractions and PEMDAS (order of operations), but you'll also need to know more about geometry and a little bit of stats. In terms of the science section, earth science isn't a focus. You might see a question, but it's probably not a scored question. Instead, the science section is about 66 percent anatomy and physiology. The rest is mostly of biology, chemistry, and scientific method. Overall, the new TEAS scaled to be as difficult as the old version. That way, nursing schools don't have to change their admissions requirements. Hope this helps--and good luck studying!!

New ATI TEAS exam allows calculator
It is super frustrating that you can use a calculator on the new test...but it really isn't going to help that much on the new test. They designed it so that it's still as difficult, calculator or not. The new version of the test won't have as many questions that rely on mental math, where a calculator would be super handy. On top of that, it will have questions about how to set up complicated math problems--and then you don't actually have to solve them. Instead, have to select the proper way of setting up the problem. I know it stinks to find out you can use a calculator, but please take heart: the new test is totally different...and the TEAS isn't that nice. :)

TEAS prepare book???
I have all the books you mentioned. :) To decide which book you want, you'll have to decide if you can take the TEAS before the end of August because the test changing. If you take the TEAS V, you have until the end of August. That's the 5th book. The ATI TEAS is the new version of the test, which is the 6th book. The reading, math, and science sections are all pretty different, so a book for the 5th version won't really help you with the 6th version. Same with other study guides like your library book. The Secrets book is good--just be sure you look at an official ATI book or practice test, too, so you can get a feel for the style. Some people think the ATI books aren't detailed enough, which is why it's great you found another book at the library! Multiple books can help you fill in blanks. When you take the reading section, make sure you are comfortable finding the main idea, because it will help you will a lot of passage questions. Good luck!!

Taking the TEAS first?
Which TEAS will you take? When the TEAS changes in August, there's going to be a ton more A+P. If you take the TEAS now, the A+P is more general and only about 7 percent of the test. On the new version of the TEAS, anatomy is about 21 percent of the test and more detailed--but there's less chem at least! You might also see which TEAS your nursing school will want before you decide. Good luck!

Teas V Book
The official ATI book covers all the topics, but sometimes the explanations aren't quite in depth enough. See if your library has any TEAS study guides you can read before buying. That way, you pick the one that has the explanation best style for you. Definitely take the practice tests in the ATI book, though, because the style is like what you'll see on the TEAS. Just be sure you take the TEAS V by the end of August because it's changing soon! :) Good luck!
