LIU Brooklyn FNP Decision?
Just bumping. And will just answer my own question. I got into the FNP program and it took about 4-5 weeks to receive my acceptance.

To those who have applied to LIU's FNP or any other NP program, how long, from mailing the required information (transcripts, references, etc) did you here back on the decision if you got in or not? Just trying to get an idea of this timeline. Thank you.

NSLIJ -Requesting References (Survey)
Just bumping. I was offered a position at NSLIJ this past Friday! I'm so excited and can't wait to start.
-
NSLIJ -Requesting References (Survey)
Thank you for the insight @FreestylePete.I had emailed the recruiter last week and she said she would finalize my survey/references but haven't heard anything yet even after emailing again today. I just hate this waiting game because I'm currently working agency and want to pick up another hospital but I'm not doing so yet because I'm still waiting on NSLIH's decision. Good luck with your upcoming NYP interview though!

NSLIJ -Requesting References (Survey)
Was this after you completed the survey? But no I'm applying at the new women's hospital.
-
NSLIJ -Requesting References (Survey)
To those who currently work for NSLIJ, when they ask for you to complete the survey/references is this usually a good sign? Also, how long after completion of the survey did you hear back from the nursing recruiter? I'm just curious about if they will call to let you know if you got or didn't get the position.

Autonomy in Labor and Delivery units
Hi Becky, The start of my L&D experience was from Orlando, FL at Winnie Palmer where we did 14-15,000k deliveries a year. And now I'm doing per diem here in NYC and can give you some quick information on differences here in the state. Here, there is honestly hardly any autonomy. Most hospitals you will NOT being doing SVE, IUPC/FSE placement, Cytotec placement and such. There was even one hospital I went to where only the MD's titrated the pitocin and not the nurses (huh?) Most of the hospitals have MD's but some will also have midwives, ie: I do work at Woodhull Medical in Brooklyn and the midwives do the majority of the deliveries and there's no private doctors but we do have 2 attendings. Woodhull does not have OB residents but residents/students may pass by for a few days then leave. Also, Woodhull does do VBAC's if able to. As for continuing education, that depends on the facility. Some facilities have inhouse CE's and some others you have to go off-site to complete. Also in Florida I was use to my department paying for CE courses but I noticed here in NY you have to PAY for the class FIRST, then get reimbursed from your job. But yeah, I honestly feel the difference and can say I am so glad I was able to function independently as an L&D nurse in the past. I hope other people will chime in with their experiences, hth's!

Gotham Nursing Agency
Does anyone have experience with Gotham? I am trying to figure out if I should continue with White Glove (which I haven't started working for yet) or look into Gotham instead. Thank you!

Current NYP Columbia/Cornell RNs
I don't know If I'm understanding your question correctly but.. Both Cornell and Columbia are apart of the NYP hospital system. So it really doesn't matter where you wind up at because you can always do an internal transfer from one to the other.

Need Advice- Moving to NY
just a side note but they actually do closer to 7k deliveries a year, so they are the busiest in the state of ny, not the us. i use to work for winnie palmer hospital in orlando, fl and we did twice that much (14k+) and we were like number 2 in the country. just some fyi...

New York Presbyterian PHARM EXAM!
@gspice71 and @rn kate, i just emailed both of you the nyp pharm info. i'm surprised you guys didn't received anything because that is one of the first emails your hr rep sends you once you get an offer. also, i do not know anything about the pediatric exam because i did not have to take that. but the sample exam is the same flow you should expect on the exam being that is is provided by the nln. so just know your general meds, side effects, etc and get a 100% on calculations and you should be fine. also like mentioned prior, you should delete or edit your email addresses because you can get spammed.

New York Presbyterian BSN only?
Hi Clarissa, for the phone interview it was pretty much general questions, but I was able to relate it back to my labor and delivery unit. Obviously if you have other experiences in different areas you can always refer back to that. And example of a general questions are: "Have you ever had a disagreement with a coworker, and how did you resolve it?" or "Have you ever gone out your way for your patient under a special circumstance and what was the outcome?"But for my one-on-one interview, they were definitely unit specific only and very detailed.

New York Presbyterian BSN only?
Be expected to be asked on why you want to work for the organization, your background, etc And you may be asked scenario questions. SO make sure you answer thoroughly and promptly. Also make sure your voice tone doesn't sound like you're just laying in bed somewhere. Speak and have a smile in your voice as if you are speaking to that person face-to-face.Good luck.

Second Interview with NYP....need advice
For my experience (I work in labor and delivery) they asked me a LOT of scenario questions. I think out of both the recruiter and director I was asked about 14 questions about "what I would do" situations. I just made sure I quickly responded and didn't take a a lot of pauses. There was one question I was asked which I was not able to answer which had to deal with cultural relations between coworkers. But I explained that the culture in Orlando, Fl is different than here in NYC so there really isn't usually any clashes/differences. So if you can't answer anything, make sure you have a good reason why you can't answer it. Just don't say: "I don't know." So just make sure you are familiar with the hospital and why you want to be apart of their team. And of course make sure you are good at what you do so you can answer the scenario questions thoroughly and promptly. Good luck to you

New York Presbyterian PHARM EXAM!
Congrats on getting the position! If you PM me your email address, I can actually email you the pharm/orientation pdf file that has what you need to study for, what book to purchase and info on orientation.
-
New York Presbyterian BSN only?
Your experience is based on when you started working as an RN and working fulltime . Also if you were an LPN prior, they do not give experience for that unless you were an LPN working at NYP. For example I was an LPN 2 years which should have given me 4 years of experience but they didn't count it, shoot!

New York Presbyterian PHARM EXAM!
I'm not Da Milk of Amnesia but I took the exam last Monday. Were you given a sheet with a sample test and recommended book? Because I bought the book and studied from that.

Second Interview with NYP....need advice
If its been a week, I would definitely give your recruiter a call to get an update. For me, after meeting with the nurse recruiter and the unit director they called me the next day and told me I got the position.
-
New York Presbyterian BSN only?
I honestly am not familiar with the position you applied for. But starting salary for staff RN's is: $73,757 for $75,229 for >1yr experience They add $1300 once you get your BSN and $6,000 shift differential for 4pm-7am I hope this helps a little bit

New York Presbyterian BSN only?
I'll definitely keep my fingers cross for you. I think it took a little over 2 weeks before someone got back to me when they decided they wanted to see me in person.Good luck to you!!

New York Presbyterian BSN only?
Hi Godsfavor. I am just seeing you your post. Did you have your phone interview yet? And an update on me. I took and passed my pharmacology exam 2 days ago. It was definitely a hard test, not difficult but I would say it would be an easier test for a new grad or someone just recently taking the NECLEX, but definitely doable. I start Orientation the first week of September.
