Autonomy in Labor and Delivery units
Thanks so much for your reply! I am super glad to have gotten experience in a hospital that gives us autonomy, but I hope that doesn't get me into more trouble! Does your unit have any openings?

Autonomy in Labor and Delivery units
Hi everyone, I've been following this website and these boards for a while, they are always so informative! I'm a Labor and Delivery nurse at a high-volume hospital in Tampa, FL with antepartum experience. I'm considering relocating to NYC for the hubby's job. I met a nurse recently who relocated from Brooklyn (not sure which hospital) and she said she was unhappy there, didn't learn much, and has had a much better experience here at our hospital. As much as we aren't doing things right, we do have a good education policy (ACLS, STABLE, NRP, Breastfeeding Basics, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring are all required) It was pretty discouraging to hear but I wanted to throw out these questions to a wider community: Does your hospital have residents in-house? How many of your patients are cared for by them vs. private docs? Do you do VBACs? Do your nurses place IUPC's or FSE's? Does your hospital allow midwives? What kind of support and continuing education does your hospital provide? Does your hospital have a bereavement program for patients experiencing a demise? Thanks for any opinions & info! God bless, Rebecca

BrightStar Health Care
Hi, I just got a job offer from Brightstar as an RN. I have a couple years experience in a hospital but am new to Home Health Care. How has your experience been with this agency? Thanks!

Brand Spanking New OR Nurse
Hi, I'm not officially an OR nurse but I work in Labor and Delivery where we are also trained to circulate C-sections and be the scrub tech too if necessary. I have circulated plenty already and the cases are pretty much alike, but I feel like it's such a technical field and the two days I will be getting to learn how to scrub isn't going to cut it for me. Is there a good book or online resource where I can learn the basic stuff before I get in there? Thanks for any help.

restraints in acute care
I am a nurse on a trauma/surgery floor where we have a good deal of patients who have had some kind of head injury or are confused. Until a few months ago, we used to have a close observation room where we had a sitter watch 4 patients (we call this 1:1 still) and any patients who were on isolation would get a sitter in a private room. Well the hospital had some budget problems and they installed a video monitoring system where a tech at the nurses station will watch six patients over a video camera. Of course the reasons why I am against this are numerous: our restraint and fall rate have gone up, the four patients in the close observation room are not always the same gender - they are being watched over video but there is no tech in there, etc. Has anybody else heard of this kind of system used?
