  1. Trust me, that's not the norm here. Desperate nursing needs and high cost of living. No where near that much in the Midwest. I actually thought it was a typo!
  2. Way overconfident. In fact, I say scary overconfident!
  3. No, getting your ADN is not a bad thing at all. Get your ADN and start working as a nurse. Maybe you won't go to ICU right after graduation but that really is OK. It will give you time to get some experience. You can always get your BSN after graduating with your ADN. I agree that you should, at some point, get your BSN. Good Luck
  4. The patient has a broken foot. Addict or shopper, he still deserves pain control.
  5. Exactly what I thought!!!!
  6. Yes it may be sad but so are circumstances nurses work under now. It is so different than it was 30 years ago. The work was hard, maybe harder than now especially physically. The difference is what you did was appreciate by the patients and nursing administration. Now it's all about making money and scores like HCAAPS or HIPPA, or whatever the initials are. Nurses are asked to be extremely wise to use all the machines and keep up with changes.at the same time, they are to be waitresses to families and visitors. Don't ignore your patients as you chart on your 50 pound computer you are lugging around but make sure you answer the phone you carry so clerks and patients can ring you. Whew, I better quit writing before I blow this iPad up.
  7. Sorry but I totally would not want a male nurse. I prefer a female doctor
  8. The manager and clinical coordinator should have supported you. That's a shame
  9. I'm are truly sorry for your experiences. The problem with the HIV patient was directly caused by a nurse not giving proper report. That nurse made a terrible error by not telling you the patient had HIV and was violent. That is awful. I have never heard of a bedside nurse not getting paid for overtime work. I really am sorry you and so many others have had such a bad experience in a career we all love. Nurses cannot continue to be the answer to every budget problem.
  10. Are there nursing refresher classes any more?
  11. If you get regularly called, you can apply for unemployment to bring your salary up.
  12. Oh my! If you work in a hospital open 24/7 and you don't want to work weekends, then who is going to take care of me, if God forbid, I get sick on Saturday?? We hire all nurses for every other weekend. We have a weekend program that some nurses work, extra money etc. if we have extra staff on weekends, the senior nurses get off first. One of the few rewards for seniority. I'd like to have a dollar for all the nurses I have heard say they are leaving the hospital so they don't have to work shift, weekends or holidays!!
  13. The places I have worked are FINALLY cracking down on physicians that act this way. They are written up, spoken to by the head of their group and lose money. It seems to be working. I haven't seen a chart thrown across the nurses' station in a long time.
