For the hybrid program, it goes by a block scheduling. There's roughly 12 blocks total. I would say the majority of it was a lot of self learning. We had modules to complete with assigned readings, discussions via canvas, and webinars (some were optional, but it's strongly encouraged for you to participate). Exams typically fall on a Friday and it depends on the block how many exams you have. I strongly encourage you to purchase or rent the textbooks. Some classes it is required because you will need to do case studies and use evidence based practice Here are the items I used for clinicals and what I use on the floor today... 1. stethoscope - I believe roseman only wants litmann, which is the best on the market. I would buy the lowest tier stethoscope because those can go missing. 2. Multi-color retractable pins 0.5mm are my favorite, highlighters and sharpie pens (buy the mini ones and put it on your badge reel). Pen lights 3. Foldable clip board (easier to carry around instead of a binder) 4. Bring your backpack with textbook, MULTIPLE copies of your care plan templates, laptop, binder with all of your hw assignments, etc. Some days you do have some down time and during clinicals you can work on care plans 5. white shoes that are non-mesh - unfortunately roseman only requires these shoes which are hard to find imo

Unfortunately, you do need to live within the area otherwise it will be a nightmare having to commute on such short notice for clinical rotations, labs, exams, etc. Everyone in my cohort lived near campus

I second this! Henderson does tend to fill up faster than SJ. If you have some ties to LV/Henderson then they tend to be a bit more flexible.

Changing specialities overall can be challenging in itself, but I believe if there is a strong structure to the program then it will all work out. COH and Cedars are both really good hospitals. I switched specialities from hem/onc to nicu and although it was a lot of individualized learning in itself, but I don't regret my change in speciality. If the end goal is L&D, I would go with cedars instead of doing hem/onc and chasing the money (and better commute). Cedars favors their employees more - meaning that it will be easier for you to switch over to L&D; especially if you have PD experience. Hope you find your calling and that it all works out for you ?

iirc cedars does loosely "require" an 18 month contract. Pretty much if you leave cedars within that time frame I believe you are blacklisted from applying again but you do not owe cedars any monetary value whatsoever

Hi! Sorry for the major delay in response. 1. Clinicals start on block 3, but you do have to attend sim labs for block 2. Block 1 is entirely online. It is still in your best interest to live near south jordan or henderson when you start the program. 2. Based on my experience and my cohort, we all took the NCLEX and then applied for jobs after. You receive your ATT (auth to test) after you graduate within ~1.5 weeks. After that you can register to take the boards whenever. I strongly recommend you take the NCLEX in NV and do license by endorsement with CA (if that's your plan) because if you register to take the NCLEX in CA; the waitlist to receive your ATT and such can take 3 months. 3. My favorite clinical was peds, but that's because I like kids more than working med-surg LOL. You see a different aspect of nursing and it sorta broadens more opportunities. My least favorite block was 5 & 10; which is adult health I & II. Those two blocks were the most time consuming. Pharm (block 4) was also another time consuming class that I would really focus on 4. Specific tips would be time management. It is vital in this program because it isn't a sprint; it's a marathon with very little breaks in between. Your time will be dedicated for the 16 months. I would try to limit any distractions you might have or take care of the big yield things now before you start the program. I would also encourage you to take a vacation and go somewhere nice before the program begins.

thank you for the insightful info. I've been a nurse for almost 3 years and I didn't know the difference between the graduate nurse program and residency. I thought there was only a residency / new grad program. Is the new graduate nurse program a recent thing?

The majority of my nursing colleagues use NSO for their malpractice insurance. The BEST BLS class I've taken was from surefirecpr (there's multiple locations in LA/OC). There's a bunch of classes available ranging from BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc. I think you can buy a combo deal. If you do your ACLS; you can get your BLS for $50 more I believe. I strongly encourage you to add ACLS to your resume because almost all of the hospitals require it upon hire. I have worked as an RN for almost 3 years and it seems that ACLS is the way to go. I can answer this question...new grads are REQUIRED to work a 1.0 schedule. This means that you are required to work 7 shifts in a pay period (3 (12hr shifts) per week and the second week work 4 shifts). After a year, you can do 0.9 schedule (the traditional 3 shifts per week).

Out of curiosity, what interview questions did they ask?

I would apply asap. Back in 2017, there were 3 slots for interviews (one for each month). I picked the last month for the interview due to having to study for the TEAS. After each interview process, the faculty chooses who will be selected for the cohort. This means spots fill up fast and it is almost like a first come first serve bases. Yet again, this was back in 2017. I'm not sure what the process is like currently. But regardless, I would submit your application as soon as the application window is open.

Regardless, the pay will be lower because it's in SB county. I've heard good things about Loma Linda. The NorCal market is pretty saturated and not as many hospitals in that area. I would accept the job offer, get your year or two of exp and negotiate for higher pay in NorCal.

I cannot speak much about the new grad program, but I do know that new grads work 7 shifts in a two week period. There are some classes and workshops you attend during the first year along with some projects. I haven't heard of any new grads saying that the work + course load isn't doable. It seems that majority of the time the new grads are on the floor and you get roughly 12 weeks of orientation.

I forgot to answer this q's. The process is not hard to get your CA from UT or NV. It's mostly the waiting game. I believe after I submitted all the paperwork, fingerprints, etc. it took a solid 2-3 months until I received my RN license in CA. I also received the temp RN license in the meantime while I waited in the meantime until I found out that majority of hospitals will not accept the temp RN license anyways :'). One thing to keep in mind is if you decide to not go to roseman and go to another school out of state, you must follow the BRN CA guidelines as to what perquisites will count towards that RN license. Roseman meets the criteria, but I think some schools do not.

Actually, I graduated June '19. Took the boards July and then moved to LA Sept and then Oct I started seriously applying for jobs until Jan. '20 I received a job offer for a med-surg/tele unit at a community hospital and switched jobs a total of 3 times until I finally landed at my dream hospital. Now I'm gonna be working in the nicu this fall. Ngl the market is tough in LA, you do need connections if you want to land big at a good hospital

It's almost impossible to fail out of the school, but you do have to try your best The non-hybrid lectures you do not have to wear scrubs. Only when you do skills lab. For clinical you need to wear the school uniform which you will need to purchase from a company that's contracted with roseman
