Travel Newbie, Maybe
I am a nurse with 20 years experience in med-surg ICU and Pediatrics. I am currently without a job and I'm thinking about going the travel route. I do have a great agency. I just contacted and a great recruiter as well. And she has answered my questions, however, any good insights from new and older travel nurses would be greatly appreciated. I am in West Virginia and I'll be first traveling Ohio and West Virginia. Do you guys do it alone or do you like to travel with a buddy? Let me know your thoughts thank you

Job searching while under investigation
I am in this current situation too. I had already been looking and booked interviews when I was terminated and I am also terrified what they will say. So I will be following this thread. Used to be they could only release dates of employment. But now I have noticed on apps that you have to agree to let prospective employers inquire more than that. I did tell an interviewer the other day that my employer and I had parted ways. I didn't go any further. I didn't want to be dishonest. I am hoping others can guide us...

Need Good Ohio Attorney
I didn't admit to anything because I didn't take it. He just kept saying you were the only one. How stupid would someone be to pull it just to steal it. The pyxis tracks everything. Hence, good and bad because it shows I pulled it when I didn't. He also brought up a fact that I didn't document giving 2 norco, I only charted one. Our system is Meditech an old system of charting and it freezes on me all the time. Heck one time insulin just disappeared from my pt's eMAR without explanation. I told him I ain't perfect but I am no thief. If I had a problem I would admit to it.

Drug tested. Now what?
Ok. Here goes. So I had to go to the ER for a flare up of my Rheumatoid arthritis. They gave me Nubain, phenergan both IMx2. I am not on any meds for my RA at home due to change in insurance. So I was in horrible pain yesterday and took my sister's Gabapentin. And of course I get called for a random drug screen. Of course it's going to be positive. I know I will be accused of diversion, and terminated. My questions are many but just want to know if this means I will lose my license? Any help appreciated.

Teaching from Home Pros and Cons?
Hello, I am looking into teaching from home at Western Governor's University. I have a phone interview scheduled. I know one person who currently teaches from home and she loves it. Another educator I talked to used to do it and she hated it because "you are always tied to the computer." Looking for opinions pros vs. Cons, etc. Can anyone help me? Thanks Missy

Would you File a Complaint?
I am glad I took a break and did not read any more of your responses. My family was never in the way, I was an ER and ICU nurse. They never secured my dad. The nurse calling security hated me because I got manager and she didnt when I use to work at this hospital. All of you who said I was angry. Yes I was because my dad didn't receive proper care. Now he is paralyzed on one side.

Nursing Professional Development / Staff Development Coordinators
I am looking into applying for a Staff Development coordinator job in my area. It only requires a BSN but I do have a Master's Degree and an extensive education background. My question is this - do most LTC facilities require you to work the floor sometimes as well? Thanks

Would you File a Complaint?
He had a fall from a top a hilltop, rolled down 50 feet. He sustained 8 broken vertebrae, 13 broken ribs, a left broken arm, a head injury, a left brachial plexus injury, of which he can not move his arm now. I was not demanding in anyway at all - I was simply asking them if they had done a neurochecks because his pupils were unequal. My mother said he landed in the ditch on their property and his head hit the driveway.

Would you File a Complaint?
I did speak with patient relations - didn't get anywhere.

Would you File a Complaint?
My dad was recently in a bad fall. The ambulance picked him up without placing him on a backboard or in a neck brace. Then when at the hospital, they didn't either. Nor did they listen to me when I said he has a head injury and can't move his arm. They didn't do a neurochecks or given him a sling when I asked for one. One particular Nurse was very rude and told me "you don't work here you just can't run the show" because it was at the hospital where I used to work. She then kept kicking us out of the trauma bay, and wouldn't let us in for hours. (ME, my sister and my Mom.) I asked for another nurse to take care of my dad and she ended up calling security on me after cursing at me. My question is - would you file a complaint with the state board of nursing? I have already filed a complaint with the hospital and have heard nothing after 3 months! Thanks for your opinions.

PICC RN
I have a question about PICC lines as well. My home health patient called and said her PICC line came out a little. It was at 5 and now she says it is at 10. She is an RN also and stated she checked for blood return and it returned well and then flushed well with NS. Should I be concerned and call her doctor or is it ok since it is drawing and flushing easily? Thanks so much.

Called off too many times?
WOW...ok. I have been an RN for 20 years. 4 of those years as a manager. Yes, it is a pain in the neck when people call off. Many times I had to go in to cover. But I know I am going to start a war here - but in my opinion, nurses don't support other nurses during times of illness. Now, she does say she has knee pain, me I would take ibuprofen, wrap it and go to work. But, some of you guys are being so rude to her! It all comes down to this: One never knows what ALL is going on when a fellow nurse is ill! Yes, a lot abuse the system and call off to party, because it's the weekend, or what have you. But NOT everyone does it. When I left my last job (took the voluntary lay off) and started interviewing I had a problem with my previous employer breaking laws and telling prospective employers I was a good nurse but had an absenteeism problem!!!!! I couldn't believe it! My employer of 14 years would report me as having "had too many instances of FMLA" and this is when I was off with RA complications. I even underwent surgery. It just pissed me off! I guess that is why it's an issue that bother me. Aches and pains you will always have, but don't call off just to be calling off or for minor things like colds. Good Luck to you!

Nursing Calculations Cheat sheets
Does anyone here have a simple "cheat sheet" to help their students with calculations of dosages? I have used two and explained three different ways, and they aren't getting it (yet). Something that is not copyrighted and something printable if you have it. Please and thanks Melissa

Part time Educator
Hello fellow nurses I have a question for those of you who are instructors either and the clinical area lecture or both. I currently do both at teach 2 classes plus I have a clinical group. My problem is that I am considered adjunct faculty they reduced my hours from 28 to 20 so now I'm trying to find a part-time job to supplement that income. My question to you is have you ever had a difficulty getting a floor nurse or any other type of bedside nursing because of your MSN? I've been a nurse for 18 years with a wealth of experience in ICU rehab and med-surg. The only experience I don't have is in Pediatrics and labor and delivery. I did try LTC once and absolutely hated it. Sorry for the long post I just wanted to know if you guys have this situation as I do? I see no future full-time clinical instructors positions open in my nearby colleges. So I want a second job. Any advice is much appreciated
