  1. Congrats to both of you! For anatomy - it was really making sure I understood the nervous system, all the systems that influence blood pressure/water retention in the body, how inflammation works, pain receptors, ect. It was remembering and recalling my second anatomy class. It isn't like if you don't look over things now it will be impossible later. I certainly spent many hours refreshing this infomation while take patho/pharm. The two classes in patho/pharm were intense. I spent hours studying for these classes. Once you make it past the first 2 eight weeks, there is some breathing room.
  2. ASmith, congratulations! It’s a great program. In Alaska all of our clinical hours our at Providence Hospital. I’ve seen different areas of the hospital. I’ve worked 1:1 with a nurse when on the floor. I didn’t do anything to prepare for nursing school. If you have time/money consider taking a pharmacology class or go back and review the body systems/processes in anatomy.
  3. I would say all the faculty are supportive and want to see the students succeed. For this program, you need to be a self starter. There are many deadlines each week and you are doing school alone. That’s not to say you won’t form a study group or 2. Taking classes online takes motivation to sit through long lectures, to keep up with studying, and research topics for weekly forum posts. I have no regrets doing this program. Being 1 intense year is stressful at times, I’ll be 2/3 of the way done before any of the 2 year program I looked at.
  4. Well said Cassidy!! One of my best decisions was to look at other Nursing programs outside of UW. Once you pass the NCLEX no one really cares where you went to school for your BSN.
  5. EricC and A.Smith Having finished the first semester of the program, apply and see what happens. So far I am happy with the classes and the amount of time spent on the floor of the hospital with nurses/patients. It is a small program but with that you get to know your fellow classmates in your co-hort and professors well.
  6. Good luck everyone!!
  7. 714 applicants ?-how many are they accepting?
  8. Hi Eric, I am just now seeing this post. My undergrad GPA was a solid B average. I do have other degrees that my grades improved to a solid A average. I switched career fields to the medical field. I applied to UProv thinking I need to start formulating my essay for nursing school. Their application time line was out of cycle for the other schools I was looking to apply. I was working within the Providence system as a medical assistant. I would agree with the interview process they wanted to know how you handled yourself with interacting with others. In the current class I am in not everyone has a medical or healthcare background. I will say I am impressed with the talent and backgound of everyone in the program. They are all impressive individuals. I fell very lucky to be spending the next year in this program with them.
  9. Congrats! Are you going to MT or Anchorage? I was accepted in at the Anchorage location.
  10. Hi, I was hoping someone would reply with information on the University of Providence school as well. Did you apply? I know a few that have done graduate level nursing master's and the RN to BSN through UP but it would be nice to hear about the ABSN program.
  11. I believe the Portland location closed mid Spring very abruptly due to financial reasons. I would double check to make sure they are still in business in Portland.
  12. Nicole, Thanks for the reply, I've been researching and reading how long it takes to get into some of the programs because they are so competitive. For Bellevue and LWTC I will have to re-take my basic science (chemistry and microbiology) courses due to fact it's been over 7 years ago. I know I can get those done in matter of a year. I can apply to UW for the Accelerated and the BSN program in the meantime while working on the science courses. I just need to work on volunteer hours. It's crazy to be starting over again. (I finished school including a grad degree, worked for several years and now considering going back to do something else.) Paula
  13. Congrats on your acceptance! I was wondering what made you apply to the LWTC program. I've heard mixed reviews and curious if I should give it a second look as I am looking at UW and Bellevue.
  14. Lake Washington Institute of Technology Nursing program is now an accrediated program with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). I am wondering if the teaching has improved since this post in 2011?
