Vancouver Island university practicum inquiry
Congrats on your acceptance! Yes it is pretty competitive to get in there. I just finished my first year of the BSN program at VIU and I am currently doing my first clinical practicum for the month of May (they call it intersession on the calendar). It is a great program, with so many great instructors! I especially like how you don't have to do a year of general studies, just dive right in to the nursing classes. Everything is so relevant and interesting. Good luck!

New Nursing Student - Need advice on what to study over summer to prepare
Hi there! I just completed my first year. The only class I really had any difficult with was Anatomy and Physiology. Depending on how long it has been since you have been out of school, I feel like that was something I would have benefitted from by pre-reading/learning on my own before class began. Good luck!

Do all BC Nursing programs have waitlists based on seat availability?
Hello! I decided to apply in the fall of 2014 to Vancouver Island University (Nanaimo) for their BSN program, 2015 admission. I found out in April 2015 that I didn't quite make the cut, so I figured that I would have time to upgrade some of my high school courses. I got a call in late August 2015 to tell me that a seat had opened up if I wanted it. I had 10 days to quit my job, pack up, and find a place to rent. Not to mention start my student loan application. I also didn't have any of my prerequisites complete as I didn't plan for this. Talk about stressful! But I did it. There are a few LPNs in the program, so I am not sure about if there is a wait list for them to enter the program. I could give you names and phone numbers of people to talk to if you were interested. The university is beautiful and not too big. I originally came from the prairies so I can really appreciate the mild winters here :) If nursing is what you truly want to do, please don't give up. We are all here to help each other.

Any Canadian BSN students on here?
Hello from Canada! I'm an older student (41) just finishing up my first year of the BSN program - I'm actually doing my first clinical this month. Most of my classmates are young enough to be my children, but they are a good group. After having been out of school for over 20 years, this was a huge change for me, but I feel lucky and blessed to have this opportunity. The only thing I really struggled with this year was A&P as I had to re-learn everything. I have to give credit to YouTube, what a life saver! I raised 3 children while working meaningless, usually crappy jobs my whole life. Now they are grown and moved out, I finally had the opportunity to move to a city and go back to school. Good luck with your studies everyone. Work hard. The world needs us :)
