  1. It sure does. Can't really describe it though. Thank goodness for local anaesthesia, I heard it rather than felt it. :bby:
  2. Same here. On night duty on a medical ward hearing that cough cough cough, spit it out.........makes me turn green. As a student nurse it was our job to empty the sputum cups, and document what was in them! ACK!
  3. Had a guy aged in his 50's come in to ED who had an aftershave/cologne bottle up his butt base first! It had been there for five days. We tried to remove it with long forceps, but it was stuck. We gave him IV diazepam in the hope of him relaxing enough for it to come loose. Nup. It was decided to take him the OR for laparotomy....problem was he could not consent having had sedation. We called his wife to come in to consent.....poor lady had no idea what her husband had been up to. He had a bowel resection and colostomy, his bowel had become gangrenous.
  4. As an old hand in ED, I think you should be proud of yourself on your first day! It takes us all a "long" time to really hear and understand what is going on around us. You seem to be on the way......keep up the good work!
  5. Hello again Amber, I agree with you for the most part. In Radiology I work in CT where we have terminal patients returning over and over again. I would never dream of having a laugh at their expense. Ever. I have had times when I have had to text my adult son and daughter to tell them that I love them....after having done a full body CT on someone their age who is post melanoma removal. It gets to you some days. A "good" nurse is always looking to learn and grow. Best wishes to you.
  6. Not an acronym, but in Radiology when we have an obese person they are called a "kidnapper". Someone who has kidnapped a thin person (normal sized skeleton) and is hiding them inside a huge body. These folk often claim to be "big boned".
  7. Sorry to burst your bubble Amber, but the need for stress relief is worldwide. I have worked in the ER and Radiology (trauma) for 30 years. Some days the only way to cope is to make light of the situation. After a day full of tragedy......two school busses colided, 5 children died and fifty other children with varying degree of injury was over, I don't think it disgusting to "debrief" with a bit of nonsense!
