Denied every job so far as a new grad bsn
@gizmojamz Are you applying for anything or are you only applying for a specific area? I've noticed that some areas are more open then others and some are more friendly to new grads. In my area a few of my classmates easily got into OR's. Some even started at rehabilitation centers. I knew I did not want to be a telemetry nurse at all but I started there because it was available and I know I needed to learn and I needed experience. You seem like you are staying positive and you should because you will get a job.

Denied every job so far as a new grad bsn
@gizmojamz Hello. I’m sorry you are going through a similar struggle. Yes I have worked for about a year as a RN, with some struggles here and there. So I started at a small community hospital that was actually affiliated with a bigger name hospital in my area. It took me maybe about 1-2 months and the position was part time on a telemetry unit. I still went on another interview and went to a level 1 trauma center in center city that is only 5 minutes from my home and I felt I’d get better experience there plus it was full time so last July I started there in med/surg and was there until I was laid off in a mass lay off there April of this year. I now am going into my desired area NICU in a prestigious children’s hospital in this area this month. So what I would advise is to keep applying and interviewing until you get the job that fits you bc it starts out slow but it will pick up. Don’t be afraid to leave even if you only did a month, if a better opportunity comes up you have to worry about your future.

New Grad Starting Career, Advice PLEASE!
The benefits are actually the full benefits that's the part I really don't understand with both part time offerings it's like why are you even denying me just 1 extra day per week. Maybe the savings plan or any education benefit might be a little different, idk but with both part time offerings they said I do get the benefits. I was figuring it will be opportunity for extra work at most of these hospitals which is why I'm taking it anyway. Thank you for the positive feedback without any judgmental attitude.

That's not really considered work experience that's just a part of education. They really have to teach you everything based on their policies, protocols and standards.

Well luckily you are not the hiring manager. They know they are hiring new grads and you don't know what my experience is that makes me a good candidate for a NEW to practice RN. All of what you are saying doesn't matter because they are looking for a new to practice RN or else they wouldn't even have brought me in to interview. They see me as capable, trainable and reliable based on my work experience and having two bachelor degrees. Being flexible and open to alternate shifts, working weekends and holidays that's ok and I am very flexible but I'm not going to flex on or be denied on full time when I have interviewed for NEW to practice full time positions and classmates with the same experience as me are in full time positions. What's going to happen is I'm going to start and then when full time becomes available else where I'll be on my merry way and that's not the way I would hire a new nurse knowing how much money goes into training new nurses.

New Grad Starting Career, Advice PLEASE!
Im hoping summer a lot of vaca more hours but hope and wishing and depending on others doesn't pay thousands in student loans, thats my only thing. So I started applying for other type of jobs I can do from home and not clinical based in the time being like teleRX do you know anything about that?

No problem. I didn't have any frustrations at interviews because I didn't know it was a problem until now. The first interview I went on was a part time so I knew that was what I was getting although I did know they could have called me back on full times I applied for, but whatever I was more in the mindset of get practice and see what type of questions I'll be asked. I have been cheerful and positive, happy to be interviewing. I only got upset after the second interview which was a full time interview called me to offer the position but changed it to part time. Then I'm like wait ok these are games being played because at the interview she told me she was hiring for full and part time and now all of a sudden an internal candidate took the full time and although I never applied for part time you are offering me part time. The last interview I did I wasn't even going to go but I went just to fulfill obligation bc I never know what could happen so I went and it went ok I just have to wait to hear back and see if they will keep it full time or switch up. I just see things differently as a minority and I know that's a factor, but I bring my A game everytime because I know as a double minority I'm expected to just take whatever is handed to me instead of being direct about my demands as a qualified and excellent candidate.

Who is hype? When they tell us in school we will start out making 65,000.00 and it's an excellent job market you are prepared for that. So I don't think I'm hype I am expecting what I was sold on when I spent thousands to get another degree to have a better career. So no I don't think I'm hype. And when my classmates who are not minority are getting offers for full time positions but I have to haggle and beg for 1 extra day to make a decent living I feel something is wrong there. The employers who have called me and interviewed me have said my resume is excellent but then things switch up when it's time for the offers. No I will not just take what I'm given. I told the hospital that I first interviewed with for part time that I have to rescind the offer bc I was offered a full time position and all of a sudden they just got some other floors with full time positions she's supposed to get back to me on. I'm not asking for too much, I was told all about sign on bonus and guaranteed good pay but if I'm working part time I'm making the same thing I made as a secretary after all this money shelled out and hard work, which I am proud of and happy I achieved but now it's time to pay back the loans and get out of debt and I can't do that on secretary salary, so no I'm not hype and there is no reason to calm down. Thank you.

New Grad Starting Career, Advice PLEASE!
I graduated in March. I have passed NCLEX and have a license number. I have applied for over 80 jobs and have had 3 interviews, 1 part time and 2 full time. I was offered the part time job but knew I really wanted to wait for a full time position because working part time I'll be making just as much as I was making before I took all of these loans and became a nurse. I didn't get into nursing for money however I have so much debt now, why is it becoming a problem to secure a full time position as a new grad? The one full time position called me back with good and bad news, they wanted me but could only give me part time because an internal candidate got the full time position I interviewed for. The second full time I haven't heard back from but it doesn't start until July. Is this the norm, extreme difficulty getting any position but mostly a full time position? I have already let go of wanting specific areas and shifts but even after compromising its like I'm still being held back. I don't feel I deserve to make less than my classmates who are getting hired full time, Im not sure of the problem.

Best Way to Look for Jobs
Thank you. I actually did get a job using Indeed however its part time and I am interviewing this week for full time positions I did find on Indeed. I'm in a big city with many hospitals and no real preference so I do like to see everything available and usually it sends me directly to the hospitals website and I will apply for more if I see openings I like. Thank you for the feedback.

Best Way to Look for Jobs
Hello Nurses...Happy Nurses Week! I appreciate all of your hard work and I appreciate this community. Ever since I first applied to Nursing school, through assignments, NCLEX and PVT and now applying for jobs, interviews and math tests I was always able to come here to ask questions and get good advice. Honestly when I started this account I said to myself something will happen and I won't really become a nurse because every single issue I've had over these years becoming a nurse seemed detrimental and the thing that would end my career choice and dream. However I'm here still and my question now is about actually applying for jobs. So for me I have found the job search to be difficult with a lot of applications but not a lot of call backs. I just passed NCLEX on April 18, 2018 and got my license number on April 20, 2018. Since then I have applied to no less than 80 positions. I notice in the Philadelphia area there are a lot of openings for OR, which I don't want. A classmate of mines says she did 2 applications and got a call back for OR. My primary method for applying to jobs has been Indeed.com. I've used it in the past for non nursing jobs and was successful one time before. One thing I noticed with Indeed tho is sometimes after applying to what they call a "New" job that employers website says that job is months old. So my question is does anyone recommend a better site for nursing jobs or a better method? Thank you all again for everything.

New Job Math Test
Just finished it, was a little more difficult then I expected but I hope it's good enough lol. Didn't really ask about contraindications but asked some basic things I know without a book. What is usually the score needed for these test ? It was a 40 question test. Thank you.

New Job Math Test
Wow no we never did that. The only thing close to that we did was in pediatrics we checked safe dosing but that information was still given to us in the question. I don't think I'd have a problem looking at the medication in a book and recognizing contraindications and incompatibilities but as far as in school that wasn't required for math. I am hoping everything goes ok with this, I'm more nervous but I appreciate knowing somewhat what to expect now, thank you.

New Job Math Test
So we use a drug guide yes, they actually provided us a drug book but we have never needed it for a math test, thats all I'm saying. If you are telling me you are giving me a math test I'm expecting to see: the doctor ordered this at this amount and this is available. I just don't want any surprises as we have never had to look anything up for a math test. Thanks for the feedback.
