SNF daily routine for night shift?
I am a fairly new nurse. I am a RN with 3 years of experience on a surgical trauma unit at a level 1 trauma hospital and 1 year of experience in an outpatient infusion clinic. I am picking up a few per diem nursing shifts at a SNF and for some reason I am terrified! I have never worked at a SNF before and never had any Clinical’s at a SNF so I really have no idea what to expect. I will get a brief orientation 30 minutes before my shift. It is a 35 bed unit and it will be me the only RN plus 3 CNAs. Can anyone tell me in detail what exactly their routine is on night shift for a SNF? Also I saw that many people say they create schedules for the CNAs. What does that mean? I’m used to delegating tasks to CNAs when needed but do I actually write out a schedule for them? Any advice and tips is much appreciated. Thank you all in advance! ?

Career Path for PICU?
Thank you I appreciate your insight! I was leaning more towards surgical trauma, plus I have been working with kids as a gymnastics instructor for the last 8 years so I definitely know kids very well and relate to them easily. Thanks again!

Career Path for PICU?
Hey everyone, I just graduated with my BSN. My ultimate goal as a nurse is to get into the PICU or even General Peds. I applied at Children's Hospital here in Colorado, but unfortunately didn't get into the new graduate program there. Since then I have applied at several other places and have a few job offers. I am not sure which offer to take and which one will give me the most experience so I can hopefully reapply to children's in the future. I have 2 offers for adult positions on the surgical trauma floor, neuroscience, or ortho/spine floor. I also have an offer for pediatric private duty nursing. I'm not sure what a peds unit is looking for as far as experience. Should I gain experience in the hospital setting or should I gain experience with the population (peds) that I want? Or both and take a hospital position and do peds home health PRN? any insight would be incredibly helpful! Thanks guys!

New grad struggling to find jobs
Hey everyone, first of all thank you for all the insight. Second, I thought I would update you guys. I just got an interview at memorial hospital here in colorado for medsurg, neroscience, surgical trauma, and ortho. I guess I go to a meet and greet and get to talk with reps from all the different units then pick my top 3 and go have a 30 minute interview with each unit. Any advice or suggestions about the interview? In so nervous! Its my first interview offer and I want to make sure I impress them!

New grad struggling to find jobs
Thank you, I applied to Christ is health in Tyler, Texas a few days ago, but was again rejected:( I don't know if that means I'm not considered for all locations or just Tyler. The position said "new grad positions available at all locations" it directed me to one application.

That's I thought too. They hire based on the contingency you pass

New grad struggling to find jobs
@verene I do not have my license yet. My nclex is in June. I've had my cover letters proof read as well. I've changed my cover letters for each job to tailor it toward the specific hospital. I will keep sending in job apps!

@JKL33 Sort of.. I said my passion is in pediatrics but I am interested in medsurg as well to gain valuable knowledge and experience. Should I change my wording?

Denied every job so far as a new grad bsn
I appreciate your insight. I guess I'm just discouraged because almost all the jobs I've applied for are "new grad programs" that hire you based on the contingency that you pass the nclex. So shouldn't I be able to get interviews knowing that I'm waiting to take my nclex?

New grad struggling to find jobs
Is anyone else getting denied new grad bsn jobs left and right? I graduated from a well known college (Beth-El UCCS) and have turned in several job applications. Almost all of them have denied me within several hours. I have sent my resume and cover letter to several of my instructors and the current nurses I know and all have said my application is exceptional. I don't understand what I am missing. My passion for nursing lies within pediatrics but I have made it known that I would be happy in medsurg as well to gain value or knowledge and experience. I truly feel like I am a qualified candidates for these new grad programs but keep getting denied without even an interview. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Denied every job so far as a new grad bsn
Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone else is getting denied from new grad RN jobs left and right? I graduated from a very well known university (UCCS Beth-El) this May 2018 and have submitted very strong cover letters and resumes. I have sent my resume and cover letter to several of my instructors and other nurses I know. They all said my resume and cover letter are fantastic! However, I've been denied from about 5 jobs so far and am so discouraged. Ive applied to 4 jobs in colorado (been denied by 2 of them and still waiting on the other 2) and multiple jobs out of state. With in 3 days I've been denied from most of the new grad positions. I don't understand what I am missing. I truly feel like I am a strong candidate and have strong qualities to offer. I don't get how I can be rejected within only a couple of days? How did they even have time to look over my application? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!
