  1. So I altered your post and I wonder how many people would be upset about this.
  2. Do you remember a sharp object going into your finger? If no don't worry. I don't know how you wouldn't remember it.
  3. I stick to "no". Why not? "because I said no."
  4. So first STOP WORRYING. Truly hemolyzed at best can report a K at 1 below the level (3.7) and slightly hemolyzed is more likely 0.5. There is no reason to redraw this patient and no need to lose a single minute of sleep. Take it as a good learning point to pay attention because there is 0 harm to this patient. At worst they fall in normal limits and will have no bad outcomes from this.
  5. If they are your client/patient/underling then don't sell to them.
  6. If a patients BP is 115/91 they will die a horrible death if you repot it as 116/92 so PLEASE report what you find.
  7. I didn't realize this was high school. Get over it your friend is a flake and is not going to invite you. Make new friends because your friend is a less intelligent individual. You can let this "less intelligent individual" run your life or you can move on.
  8. Can you sum this up in bullet points? If you are scared don't do it. If you want to put the *gasp* 2 years into being a surgical tech then do it.
  9. So why are we arguing about a pulse when they have a measurable blood pressure? No pulse means no blood pressure. Still book answer is treat the fatal arrhythmia. Real world do it all at once.
  10. never seen either of them post about how hard they work. Must be that they have a Cush job unlike us nurses that work 9 12's per week.
  11. Really who needs a bigger pat on the back for doing their job? Who posts more about how much they matter and makes a bigger difference? Nurses or teachers?
  12. Probably not. I really doubt US schools would accept credits from another country. It is hard to get credits accepted from US schools let alone from other countries.
  13. Which lab reports are you struggling with? This is really a broad topic and some context would help. I am not sure that a simple book or resources would be helpful. Take even hemoglobin for example. A Hgb of 8 may be reportable if their last Hgb was 12. If they have always been 8 then it is not. I know you want the simple if a lab test is X then report it but it isn't as simple as that.
  14. I responded to your questions
  15. Nursing takes a lot of work and hard work. It takes countless posts on Facebook telling people how hard you work. It takes sacrifice to not pee so that you can post on Facebook telling people you don't have time to pee. It is hard to tell everyone how much of a saint you are to all of society. Sure the work is pretty fulfilling but man telling everyone how great I am really gets old; and tiring. I wish I could just live a life where I didn't have to show the world how great I am. Such is the life of a nurse.
  16. Give it some time since you are a new nurse. If you still get anxiety heading into work in 6 months then acute care is not for you and you should head to something low stress like being a clinic nurse.
  17. I showed up to tests and took them.
  18. Don't be embarrassed. You obviously want the position and sorry you didn't get it. Still it is obvious they weren't going to offer it to you. Dust it off and find another position. Many places want experience and sometimes it means taking an undesirable job to get said experience.
  19. I hate my whiny coworkers. Whine, whine, whine.
  20. An arrest for underage drinking probably won't affect you. An arrest for 1st degree murder really is a deal breaker. Does that help? Probably not. No one can really weigh in unless you let us know what you were arrested for.
  21. I suggest a wallet that fits in your scrubs. I also suggest a wallet that fits in your jeans or your suit. Hopefully it can also fit your kakis. Which wallet would I suggest? Any wallet they fit in all of the above.
  22. So first you had a meeting that you were unprofessional and rude. Then after the meeting you got multiple complaints that you are rude and unprofessional. Really the first complaint may be an outlier but the second shows a pattern. Here are the two options. Either you are in a toxic environment (really unlikely) or you really are rude and unprofessional. You obviously show a pattern of being negative. You had a trainee leave because of your negativity and then later were called in and then had "multiple" complaints. We all can have a complaint now and then but again you were called in to the office and then still had complaints against you after that! I give people the benefit of the doubt but it seems like you are toxic. What can you do to protect yourself? I guess sue but really anyone can sue now a days. I really suggest moving on and changing your attitude. You have burned the previous bridges to the ground and if you continue to do that you will burn bridge after bridge.
  23. Yea it tracked up the needle and into the syringe and then was injected into the patients body. Sorry no it didn't. Yea if you didn't get rid of the needle and the syringe you probably should have but really it still doesn't matter. The most you are at risk for is a boo boo.
  24. Stop screening calls. I signed for 1.0 FTE and my contract writes that. If I want some extra time I could pick it up but don't have to. When the phone rings I answer "hey bossman we need another nurse for tonight can you do it?" "No" "why not?" "because I don't want to." It is not my job to fill the schedule. I signed on for 1.0 FTE and if I don't want to work more then I don't have to and won't feel bad for not fulfilling more of my schedule. We had a meeting recently where the administration got on their high horse talking about how we need to fill empty shifts. I offered that for every shift the nurse administrator filled I would fill one. Still have yet to have to fill one.
