  1. I would like some input from my colleagues. I work in supervision of home care nurses. I found that a nurse was selling items to one of her patients. Nothing bad and the patient is appreciative of receiving the items. But doesn't this break the nurse: client relationship. I thought nurses were not supposed to have transactions or gifts from clients no matter how harmless they may seem. I let the director of nursing know about the situation and they are okay with this occurring. Am I just being too picky????
  2. Last night I had my first patient go bad, GI bleed it appears at this point, having a hard time dealing with it, keep thinking back to what I should have done or noticed earlier, does it get any easier, I've been a RN for just one year now, celebrated my one year anniversary just a few days ago. Hoping to learn from this and be better able to deal with this in the future.
  3. Hello fellow nurses, I'm coming off of orientation at my hospital and will be on my own tomorrow night. I was just wondering if any of you felt nervous on your first shift by yourself?
  4. Hello, nursing student here, wondered if anyone could give me some advice or secrets to successfully starting an IV on patients. I've had a few successes but far more failures. I find what appears to be a large enough vein then go for it but either no blood return or I've poked too deep and blown the vein. Sometimes I feel like I'm never going to get the hang of this but am desperately seeking some advice. Thanks in advance.
  5. Hello, nursing student here with a question about blood draws for a co-worker. He was wondering why his daughter that suffers from asthma has to have a blood draw taken from her wrist rather than her forearm. I'm assuming better O2 readings in this area but am unsure if that is correct. Thanks
