  1. Yes, I'm trying desperately not to think about it, but am feeling anxious too. How many did you interview with? I was able to interview with 4 units, but I really butchered my first one.
  2. Hi, I just interviewed for the Feb 2019 cohort. Did any of you apply as well? Anyone get a call back for a 2nd interview yet? I haven't yet.
  3. Thanks everyone for your feedback, it was helpful in making a decision. I ended up turning down the offer, and applied to a few more Rehab places. I have 3 interviews in the next few days, with better scheduling and hopefully better pay.
  4. Hi - the orientation is 18 days, about 2.5 weeks. I'll have about 12 patients on evenings with 2 CNAs. I did not think about all the charting on that many patients. Thanks for everyone's comments - it's helpful for me as we process.
  5. Thank you. :) We just moved here (with 3 kids), so we don't want to relocate again. I've applied to the Prov, Legacy, Adventist, PeaceHealth residency programs, and OHSU regular jobs. I didn't know about Tuality - I will look into them.
  6. Hi, I would, I guess - it all depends on travel time. I have three kids, and don't want to have to commute super far. What communities are these? I'm not sure where to look..
  7. From what I understand, it's just a commitment, and not an employment agreement. I don't get any bonus or an incentive for staying the whole two years. I'm researching if that even counts for anything, which it sounds like it doesn't. It sounds like I can just leave when I like (my sis-in-law works in HR, and said that no one can really make you stay when you don't want to).
  8. I have a quandary. We just moved to Portland, OR, not realising how totally saturated the market is out here and how hard it is for new grads to get a job. I have applied to every residency program, and every job I can at OHSU - around 50 jobs total since beg-April. I am still waiting on some residency positions from one hospital, but have not even received a call for an interview. We got word that my husband may be let go last week, so I applied to a post-acute rehab facility. They called me to interview and offered me a job. Unfortunately it is five 8-hour shifts, 2:30-10:00pm (which means I wouldn't see my kids after school), $27/hour (with no shift differential), no PTO for the first year, as well as a 2 year commitment. I can move to days/part-time after a few months, which I am considering, but the commitment is pretty daunting, and I would like to start applying to hospital positions after a few months of experience. I am torn! I am not desperate for a job, as my husband is still working full-time (currently not yet let go), but am concerned that it is going to take so long to get a new grad job here. What are your thoughts/advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have to let them on Monday whether I want to take it or not.
  9. Hi! Yes I ended up going to Drs Express, and got all my titers done. I just have to get my second PPD and then I'm all set.
  10. Hi Emily! I'm Marie- I didn't make it to orientation as we were driving out here. They're doing another one on Aug 4th. I didn't realize they only accepted 24 people. Do you know how many apply? I'm still working on a lot of stuff - all my medical stuff. It's a lot of work to just get ready for the program. Are getting vaccinations? I need to do bloodwork to show immunity as I've had a lot of the diseases before and would rather not get vaccines but I don't know where to go to get blood work done. Do you have any idea about that? Anyway, I'm excited to start! Just hoping I can get everything done that I need to.
  11. How exciting! I accepted my position into the ABSN (that's the accelerated program, correct?) and we moved here a few weeks ago! I have heard from multiple people that Elms is an excellent program and also hard to get into. We'll be in class together! :) Are you from around here? We moved here from California - I'm married, with three kids, aged 5, 3 and 10 months. We got a townhouse just a few blocks from Elms.
  12. Hi, I just got accepted to Elms College, in Chicopee, MA, and I'm 90% sure that's where I'm going to go. I haven't officially replied yet but will soon. I was wondering if there were other students on here, as well as former alumni that could tell me about their experience there. Thanks in advance!
  13. I got mine in the mail. Good luck! I want to live in Portland too! I guess I have to wait to apply for next spring now.
  14. As everyone else said, you're definitely not too late. I started my prereqs at 32, am now 36 and waiting to hear back from nursing programs. It's never too late to follow your dreams and you have plenty of time! Good luck.
  15. I live in Northern California.
