  1. We are about to switch to epic and I have an opportunity to be epic credentialed. It's an 8 month gig, 5 days a week and I love Informatics and hope to work in it someday. I currently work 3 twelves in a clinical job. I know I won't get my current job back ands it's an easy pleasant unit. This is my biggest concern. Leaving a good gig to further my career or stay in a comfy easy boring job. Did you get a pay increase to do epic credentialing? How was the job? Did you continue in Informatics after? Any regrets or advice?
  2. Do you have to take pre reqs or do you know what will transfer?
  3. There is not a lot of feedback yet on the new stats and biochem. Once a few people get through them they might be able to offer advice. Advanced Proff Roles just got way longer as well. The changes all seem to be slowing people down.
  4. Is anyone enrolled in this course yet? Just looking for feedback as it seems people are struggling to make the Live sessions fit in their schedule. Is it just for new students? My mentor doesn't check email outside of regular business hours and I'm must curious about this class.
  5. What kind of job do you have now? Less stress sounds nice.
  6. There are actually 2 different health assessment classes that require videos. One is in the RN-MSN and there is an MSN version. The MSN version is a bit longer and more involved. Do not let this class scare you off it is not bad at all. Its a test, a video, and an online virtual patient thing. Not too bad. c349 is the RN-BSN version c350 is "comprehensive health assessment" in the MSN portion You have to make videos for both and you cannot use the same one.
  7. Does your employer offer any incentive for : BSN? Certification? Clinical ladder? What state are you in?
  8. I appreciate all of your responses. Now I feel much more grateful for even getting a raise at all. It is so sad to see that nurses just do not get pay increases like we used to. It is not surprising that turnover is so high.
  9. Good news! I asked to speak with my manager last week about my raise, and she scheduled an appointment for the end of this week. However, I got an email yesterday saying that my raise had been adjusted up another 1%. So I am guessing she knew what I wanted to meet about. I am feeling better about it now, and it takes the pressure off of our meeting on Friday. I was nervous for it, but now I feel a lot better.
  10. My employer is having a breakfast party one day, a lunch party another, and manicures another. They are being held in the administrative buildings, so no staff nurses will have time to leave the floor and get over there and back since its a pretty good walk to get there. And they seem to have forgotten we are not allowed to wear NAIL POLISH. So like last year, we will see all the pictures on the intranet of the management enjoying the parties without us.
  11. Our employer constantly brags that business is booming, and they just opened another campus. It is also booming. When it comes to staff performance and hcaps, they want us to "be the best of the best and strive for excellence " but when it comes to pay and health care increases, they say "this is what everyone else is doing" . No striving for excellence on their end. :) My hospital pays less than most other hospital in the area, but that si the tradeoff of not driving into the metro area. I miss living in a state with union jobs, the pay and benefits were so much better. The non union hospitals had better pay and benefits in order to compete. Hopefully in the next few years we will move back.
  12. I am the only one in my department on a committee, and I am the only one with a specialty certification which I earned this past year. And sadly, on my unit, being on time is pretty rare although I agree it is a normal expectation. We have really poor attendance, and a lot of call outs.
  13. I am feeling heartbroken. I work hard, I am always on time. I switch shifts all the time when asked by my manager last minute. I am on 2 committees that are extra. I am also back in school working on my BSN. Well, we just got our annual raise, mine is almost 2%. I feel very hurt. What is normal? Of course we were told if we discuss compensation or raises in any way you can be fired for violation of the code of conduct. It was delieverd to us via email, not even face to face. I am now feeling like I want to give up my committees, since they cut into my school time, and as soon as I finish school IM OUT. Clearly no appreciation here. And when they continue to call me last minute to cover a shift, the answer will now be NO.
  14. My enrollment guy called constantly, but guessed whenever I asked questions and got a lot of his answers wrong. Not very knowledgable. Most info I found myself online. Once you are enrolled, you don't speak to them again, so you just have to get through it.
  15. Not a fan of my mentor. While she's always polite, I have a lot of hurdles that other people do not seem to have and she always gives me things to do that are unnecessary. It seems like the mentors are getting tighter on everyone. I've considered requesting a new one.
  16. I am in this class now, too! It seems like a lot of us are bogged down. It had been a real slow down for me. Task 2 was at least interesting but task 1 has been super tedious. I think when you compare this being worth 3 credits and Nutrition being worth 3 credits, they do not seem equal, so I agree this class seems like way more work than some of the others. I was actually surprised that Community 229 is only worth 2.
  17. They are trialing a new version on Biochemistry right now, too.
  18. I recently took this course. They say if you pass all the checkpoints in the textbook with an 80 or better you will pass the exam. My student mentor really pressured me with this class, I was warned that the remediation if you fail is really bad. She made me take all three pas event though I passed them all with room to spare. I think she made me more nervous than necessary as I passed the exam with a score in the 90's and wasted a lot more time than needed. Watch all of the cohorts and class videos and be sure to study the terms. You only need a 61 to pass and there were about 65 questions on the exam.
  19. It depends on your mentor. I see a lot of complaints about people being slowed down. I had a slow mentor who had all kinds of rules no one else had, and got a new one that is much, much better. I had to really push to get a new one they initially denied my request. It seems the trend is to be more managed by the mentors.
  20. I am currently looking into Rivier, anything you'd like to share? I am going to speak with them today but I am in research overload and feel like I need an Excel spreadsheet. lol. What made you choose them over another school?

  22. I recently went back to school for my BSN and since I am enjoying learning again I am starting to consider what comes next. I just wanted to say, the options are so overwhelming! And even more so, the cost of higher education! But isn't it nice to be in a field where we have so many options? I was just curious about how it is where everyone else lives. Here, an ADN is fine to land a job and there is no pay increase for a BSN, but most job postings say "BSN preferred". Where you live, are ADNs able to find hospital positions? Or Is BSN required? Where are you located? Any hospitals moving more toward MSN to get in the door? Any incentive pay wise for floor nurses to advance their education? In my area it opens up new job opportunities, but the pay isn't much better.

  24. I am a long ways off from doing this, but I am starting to research now. Has anyone completed a Post Masters FNP after their MSN at WGU? Were you MSN Leadership or Education? I am trying to decide if I want to stay in the RN-BSN program and then apply to another school for FNP MSN or if I would be better off changing to the RN-MSN at WGU and then doing the Post MSN certificate. To top it all off, we are moving across the country in the next year, so it may make a difference in where I end up.
