I'm finding that it's almost impossible to get a job working in the hospital after spending 2 years in SNF and PDN. Is this a common problem? Not to mention I have leadership experience so I'm finding that hospitals immediately turn me away because I left bedside nursing. I mainly left bedside because I wanted to be able to spend more time with my young son but now that he's older, I feel like I can really get into acute care. Any tips or words of encouragement?

I managed an A in Nursing Research but it was definitely not EASY. The major assignment was rough and critiquing articles does absolutely take practice. I'm in the RN-BSN-MSN program. I'd have to say Vulnerable Populations has been my least favorite class thus far. Very time consuming. I didn't think I would maintain my 4.0 with that class, but I did. Now I'm freaking out about Nursing Research as some of the threads I've read say they pair you in groups and it's very unlikely to receive an A. I only have 7 classes left to get my BSN. Just 7 ...lol.

I just finished Technical Writing and Transition to Professional Nursing. Both honestly challenged me because I'm also working full time and have an active 6 year old son. I found my biggest hurdle to be the formatting in word documents. Like I probably lost more hair from trying to figure that crap out than the actual writing assignment. If anyone wants to reach out for assistance in either of those courses, I'd be more than happy to help! The next course I'm taking coming up 02/29 is Holistic Care of the Older Adult. If anyone has input on this class, please let me know!

Title should read "Why nursing is for the strong and resilient". It's tough but I wouldn't say it sucks!

That to me is a given, dishes. I was simply touching on the subject matter in the post. I've always been aware of the repercussions of putting your dirty laundry on Facebook. If anything, I would have excluded all personal information and derogatory remarks and opened a discussion on how to avoid situations like this where patient care is compromised.

This post infuriated me. She's obviously angry and this pushed her to categorize all new nurses as ignorant. If she was level headed, she may have realized that this is a poor assumption. She may have had some run-ins with ignorant novice nurses but that does not speak for our entire new graduate society. I myself am fairly new (1 1/2 years) and I know better than to skip a head to toe assessment or skip any patient care. You have "veteran" nurses that make mistakes as well so I don't see where she gets the idea it's only new nurses. I've personally worked with a nurse with 10 years experience on a med surg unit but when she came into LTC, had absolutely no idea how to do an enteral feeding. She assumed she had been doing it correctly until state came in and witnessed her pushing a gravity feeding. Nurses of all ages can and will make mistakes; let's not categorize an entire group of new nurses as being ignorant, let's take this as a lesson to teach that veteran nurses should rather hold us under their wing and teach us there immense knowledge rather than eating us alive.

We have a two step TB test policy at my office and we typically do our first TB test, read after 72 hours, wait 1-3 weeks, administer the 2nd step and read after 72 hours. I typically do it on the opposite arm that we did the first one but I don't believe it would make a difference if you did it on the same arm.

I also knew some that reviewed with Hurst and still failed the NCLEX. I personally think you need to find a way to study the material that best suits you. I really did well with ATI because I like the testing format for reviewing. Some prefer reading over material rather than being tested on it. Find out how you learn best and tailor your studies from there.

Our nursing school utilized a program called ATI that really helped, in my opinion, prepare us for the NCLEX. I know of a few fellow classmates that took Kaplan and did not pass NCLEX. All I did was retake a few practice exams on ATI and passed NCLEX first try. Maybe it is worth looking into. Good luck!

I was wondering if anyone has come across any educational nursing related audiobooks? I have an hour commute to my work every morning and every evening so I want to be able to do something productive with my time. I'm still a fairly new RN (a year and a half), so I'm sure any audiobook recommendations will be appreciated! Thanks!
