  1. I have never thought of this situation as a possible liability issue. I work in NICU and we frequently have to leave to attend deliveries, sometimes it is an unexpected code type situation where we are running out of the unit, and we don't give handoff to another nurse. Maybe we need to rethink that.
  2. As a NICU nurse, our world is very different from the adult side of things. If you haven't had any time in NICU during school consider asking to shadow a few shifts to make sure it's everything you think it is.
  3. What I've seen happen at our facility is when giving a new or PRN med EPIC creates a new administration in thr MAR instead of linking to the scheduled administration. Example: you pull the med scheduled for 1015 and scan at 1021 and EPIC will show the dose due at 1015 as Not Given with a dose given at 1021. This doesn't always happen but I've seen it often enough. These would potentially show up as missed doses on a report but easily researched to show they were actually given.
  4. Hi all! I am currently involved in the changing of documentation systems at the hospital I work at and have taken an interest in Informatics. I am researching MSN programs and would like more info on the growth of the field and job availability. Also with 10-15 years bedside does anyone have any idea if salary would be comparable starting out in informatics to what I am making now?
  5. I work at a Baby-Friendly facility. It was a 2 year transition process for us to be certified and our lactation consultant that spearheaded the transition is now actually traveling and working for the Baby-Friendly initiative. We transitioned slowly making small changes and now babies stay with their mothers and transition and initial admission is actually quicker than when babies were brought to the nursery. Our biggest hurdle was getting the physicians to make rounds in the rooms and not bring all the babies into the nursery. It is an adjustment but almost everything can be done while baby is skin-to-skin.
  6. I went from PP to NICU after 7 years and don't regret the decision. Our NICU is a lot less chaotic than the PP unit. I was however precepted and worked in both units before transferring full time.
  7. Medela in my unit
  8. We do not have sibling visitation at all. I work in a small Level III unit.
