  1. I'm currently in the PMHNP program at UT. One of the main reasons the program limits the sizes of their cohorts is because they do 99.9% of the work associated with securing preceptors for students. Which means, as of right now, everyone who is admitted will have the total support of the program for managing those assignments; which in Austin is critical to meet the hours needed. Other programs can enroll more students because that responsibility belongs to the student. Our cohort is 13 students and we have 4 traditional MSNs and 9 AE-MSNs so the count varies each year. Good luck to those selected.
  2. UT Austin has full-time in person FNP, AG-CNS, PMHNP and PNP MSN programs.
  3. The University of Texas at Austin offers full-time on-campus FNP MSN program. DNP is a hybrid program.
  4. Here's my anecdotal experience for what its worth...I was in a BSN program in TX and prior to starting our clinical portion we had to get approval from the Board of Nursing (BON) via background check. This was in 2014, I had two similar convictions (2004 and 2006) so I had to submit a declaratory order disclosing these events. The process included providing a personal statement, court documents and completion documents. The board evaluated these events and ultimately approved me to start the program and sit for the boards. The process took about 6 months to complete which put me a semester behind. I was fortunate that they didn't consider adding any stipulations to my license. In my letter, I acknowledged the events and showed that I had taken the steps to move past them...that included returning to school at 34 years old. The thing to remember is that the BON main goal is to protect the public. They want to be sure that you are safe to practice and able to make sound decisions. Be prepared to disclose, be honest and patient. All in all, I'd say go for it. Its the best decision I made. Time passing is a good thing, in my experience. Check out your state's BON website for any specific info. Good Luck.
  5. Quick question for those who have already tested. Does the NCLEX computer-adaptive test have any of the highlight or cross out features that UWorld has? I don't want to get hooked on using those features if the actual test doesn't have them or something similar. Thanks for posting your averages and test stats. It's helpful :)
  6. It did help. Thank you :)
  7. Hey everyone, I graduate from UT Austin May 2016 and I'm looking at the Psychiatric track. I'm getting a little bit of late start on the initial online application. Is the initial application where we list our clinical references or is that going to reappear in the 2nd packet? I just want to be sure to get the right information submitted. For those of you working on your packets, what else is included other than resume, statement of intent, etc? Thanks :)
  8. Well done Hygiene Queen :)
  9. Hello everyone! I applied to the traditional MSN PMHNP program and have been lurking on this thread for a little while. There is a bunch of great info here so thanks for sharing your experiences and good luck in the rest of the process :)
  10. Hello everyone! I'll be applying for the residency as well.
  11. I'll graduate in May with my BSN. I went back to school full time at 34 (total leap of faith) and will be graduating at 39 years old. I loved my cohort and getting feed off that youthful energy. The most important part of my journey was staying organized while being able to adapt. It's possible, so go for it :)
  12. I'm a male BSN student finishing up my maternity rotation and I showed women how to initiate breast feeding a couple of times this semester. A male peer of mine acted as a lactation consulting for a mother as well. Just because you can't imagine it doesn't mean it shouldn't or can't happen. Good Luck to the OP!
