I believe St. Rose is unionized, which I consider good. Unionized nurses make on average about 33% more in wages, better staffing, & more benfits. I hear from nurses who have worked in Vegas, that St. Rose is a good hospital for patients and nurses.

Keep being patients' advocate. We need nurses with a voice! It's a shame the other nurses don't support you. It has been proven that nurses who work together can resolve situations. Nurses who work together have power! So, keep on doing what you are doing! If they fire you for being an advocate, contact yourr Board of Nursing.

When nurses just complain and do nothing ask them what are they going to do about it? If they answer nothing ask if they have head about passive aggressive. One nurse alone has no power. Nurses standing together have power. To the nurse who was terminated please keep on documenting, and telling your situation to others. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising. To the nurse who was told to not say anything controversial to the doctors remind the other nurse there is the First Amendment. Nurses are not aware of the power they have. When nurses work together it works! Nurses do have the solutions. There are hospitals where the nurses organized and came up with solutions. We do have solutions to present on Oprah or other programs. Nurses who do not believe this ,in my opinion buy into the fallacy that "Nurses are not professional" "Nurses are not as intelligent as doctors" "If you don"t stand for something you will fall for anything"

I have written to Oprah. Who else has? I challenge other nurses to take action and write.

We need to inform the public! We should have someone with power contact the producers and have nurses on the show. Why stop with OPRAH? contact Lou Dobbs, Tim Russett, Anderson Cooper. Let's really get the word out, after all this effects every one in the US. Sooner or later a member of their family, or a friend will be in the hospital. Let's do something now!! No more just discussing. We need to take action!

I didn.t mean all nurses should have an 8 hour day. Some nurses do want the 8 hour day. That is why they leave the bedside of the patient. The way hospitals schedule now many nurses not only work 12hour shifts but then are mandated to work another 4 to 8 hour shift. Studies have shown that by 12 hours a nurses sense of judgement is not that accurate. This is when errors occur The mandated overtime disrupts the family home life. School programs,conferences, and etc. are missed. It also, effects their married life.

Value Care Value Nurse is the best thing that can happen fo nurses. Nurses united all over can make so many improvements in standards of care for patients, as well as improving working conditions. Working together does work! We have seen it. I have pledged to become a Value Care Value Nurse. There is no nurse shortage but a NURSE CRISIS. There are too many nurses in other lines of work, where they have an 8 hour work day, good pay and are treated with respect and dignity. We need to get the administrators to recognize nurses are well educated, and knowledgeable. This I believe can be accomplished through uniting together in Value Care Value Nurse.

You are right that improvrd patient care is due to the people who take care of the patients. That's why we have nurses from all dept. on the negotiating team, and the members decide what they want in their contract . They decide on the priorities.

I have a question for Timothy. Can you negotiate with various health insurance companies and have it paid for by the hospital? The same fo your retirement plan. I know that SEIU nurses sit on the neotiating team. They determine what they want in thei contract. Nurses working together can maintain or elevate staff ratios and provide good standards of care.

I too am a SEIU Nurse Alliance member. We know it works. We have experienced it.

Nurses working together does work! If you have a union that does not give the nurses the autonomy to resolve their problems it won,t work. I have seen nurses work together under a different union than CNA , and it does work to maintain good standards of care for patients, as well as improve working conditions for nurses.
