Weight loss for nurses
I am doing the Eat to Live plan by Dr. Fuhrman. He's got some great ideas. Not so much about calories but about the nutrients. Those that follow him call it the Nutritarian diet. I have lost 10 lbs so far, though that is a by product as I never really had a weight problem. I have always been active and get my 15k steps in in the ER, though. He's basic...1 lb of veggies a day, 4 fruits, no dairy, no processed and minimal animal protein. I'm feeling better than I have in a while. He's a little extreme on some things (I like fish and am not giving it up) but he makes total sense on others. We Americans have to stop eating absolute crap. Who needs soda in the Era of LA Croix sparkling water!? They are amazing!

Making 100k salary/ income as a nurse?
Oh you'll be able to tolerate it...but just for a short period of time before you move to a side of nursing that doesn't have to deal with the crap (IT, Research, etc). That's the difference in a called RN and an RN that also has the money motivation-they don't take the disrespect for long.

Making 100k salary/ income as a nurse?
Why does it have to be a calling? Are mailman called? Are garbage men called? No. Is only nurses that have to wear the martyr hat and be "called " to get yelled athe, disrespected, violated and trashed by families and management. And then..we are not allowed to demand that we get paid what we're worth. I was no more called to nursing than I was to my previous career, but boy I am sure am respected much less for it.

Areas of nursing you would NOT like?
Don't want no kids, don't want no lady parts...got my own, thanks very much. I never thought about it when in school because I didn't have a clinical in it, but LTC. May be the biggest NO my nursing career could ever shout. Being in the ER and PACU, I have had the misfortune to see the products of life in the nursing home when they are sent for things like "altered x5 days". So so foul. All it has made me think Is "I hope whatever takes me or my parents is massive and quick". Slow deterioration has got to be the most unnerving thing I have ever seen. Also, it's not PC to say, I just generally don't enjoy taking care of the elderly. Same as kids, and I have stated I don't want to take care of them, either.

Patient's threatening violence
I can't believe it's gotten to where this is even a question. It's sad you have to wonder if it's OK to demand not to be hurt.

Burned out and hate nursing
I do agency PACU at a surgery center and the manager there told me "My family would literally have to be on the verge of being homeless before I went back to hospital..and even then, I'd rather sell Mary Kay first!" Lol. I thought that was hilarious. I know the thread is old, but I hope you got out of hospital, because I have come to really realize that is where 70% of my stress in life comes from.

Do you overspend on luxury items as a nurse?
Depending on your life situations, part of the country and hours worked..it really is. I mean, in Vegas, I was a new grad, no kids, student loan payments of $260 and making $60k a year with no OT. minimal OT put me at 70k a year. Pretty good. As I have learned on these forums, I dont think the nurses in the South or the Midwest had the same $$$$ story. I am in the Midwest now, and know the pay is sad.

Is money everything in this profession?
Sounds horrible. That's like Cartoon horrible. Your corporation is my worst nightmare. Wouldn't suffer that for a second. I would go back to insurance adjusting if they were my only choice!

I do nothing fraudulent to make my money. I simply use every pull I have to make sure I am paid the most per shift. No doctor gets a lecture when he calls back call team for OR and PACU to do a midnight surgery for non threatening cut to the finger, which costs the hospital thousands...so I don't feel bad for my extra $200 here and there at all.

Really??? I didn't know that!! Thank you!!!! Fine, whatever makes you feel better.

The rudest thing that's ever been said to you by a patient or family
I did ER for years, so I can't even tell you all the things people said to me. Most of them were black, like me, so I didn't get a lot of racist stuff, but when I first moved to PACU, I recovered this guy that was sleeping the entire time I did his initial assessment. As I listened to his lungs, felt his pedal pulses, checked his catheter and all I noticed no less than 60 Neo Nazi tattoos on his body. I mean, down to his freaking toes! Every nook and cranny was tatted with a swastika or some vile saying. It was such an awkward feeling. My white coworkers offered to take him and recover him and I declined...I was going to see this through. He woke up and was quiet. Not really rude at all. I brought his wife in to help him get dressed and leave since it was after normal hours and SHE was super sweet. I still don't get it, to this day! It was the most awkward situation I have been in as a nurse. I have a hard time believing someone THAT committed to racism just changed overnight. His ENTIRE Chest said "WHITE PRIDE"!! From Axillae to Axillae and umbilicus to clavicle. I still don't get it.

I don't really understand how taking all the opportunities offered to an RN to make more money is "milking it". Only RN's get indignant about those that want to make more money. No doctor, lawyer or CEO goes to his colleagues and goes "Man, you guys, I really wish there was a way that we could make less for the time and commitment I take out of my life to do this job". It doesn't happen. I will take EVERY single thing offered to me at every place I work until my body can't do it anymore. Every.Single.Thing. Sometimes, Even though I am already planning to work it, I won't actually pick up an agency shift until I get the "critical needs" text 2 hours before the shift that offers $200 more to take it. Work smarter, not harder, people.

Waaaaaay ahead of you. No legal marriage. Won't be no legal marriage. Like I said, mama didn't raise no fool! LOL. Dad's girlfriends' money does not factor in to FAFSA..I checked;) I love those kids, but I made a conscious choice to remain child free and when I met my man I explained to him that I have no intention of making their debts mine. I am still paying off my school, almost done, and that is my first priority. He would never let me pay their expenses, anyways. I did pay for half my stepsons school trip to Europe last year because I really wanted him to see it and get out of his little town. It was not much at all and I loved that I was able to do that for him.

Nurse Resigns by Sending 'I Quit' Cake to Her Employer
Was she supposed to not mention any of the things that were actually happening there and say that it was like working with rainbows and unicorns? That is not badmouthing, it's telling the truth...which ain't pretty.
