NotAllWhoWandeRN : I was able to retire at 63 and receive Social Security . I did work for about 6 months for the State in the Department of Aging, but just didn't like it. Then I went to a Long Term Care facility and worked 10 months and retired. I don't regret retiring early after working 40 years !

I'm 66 and retired at 63 ( I was fired). I believe I was fired because my employer wanted to hire someone younger and who would be paid less. The reason I was fired was "Insubordination " which I challenged ,however lost because they had a better attorney. I now have Spinal Stenosis which is a permanent and progressive disease and the demands of nursing didn't help. We often didn't have the equipment to lift a patient OOB. What other employer would let their employees not have access to equipment to do our jobs safely ? I was always told I was young looking and still do, but my body doesn't feel young !

Socrates12358; Is it possible to ask your mother or another relative to help you pay for a Psychiatric visit and pay for medications ? You can pay them back after you get a paycheck. That might get you through until your insurance kicks in. Good Luck !

I have heard that in some states like Maryland and Florida, you would have to repeat the NCLEX. Does anyone know if hat is true ?

So it sounds like an RN who let her license lapse wouldn't have to take the NCLEX. It does make sense to take refresher courses. We would be grandfathered in I guess ?

What if you don't renew your license, and it expires, would you have to take the NCLEX if you wanted to renew your license ? I never had to take the NCLEX because I graduated in 1972. I'm retired but don't plan on returning to nursing !

I have had interviews with multiple employees in one interview and it can very intimidating. I have usually gotten the question " What are your strengths and Weaknesses ? Which may be passe' by now. They will ask how you handle situations on the unit, How you get along with staff. They will be observing your demeanor and body language. So practice in a mirror to see how you look. So smile and act confident even if you don't! Call backs can take time depending how many interview. You can call and ask if a decision has been made and tell them that you are still interested.

I'm an RN and have also been a patient ( a few times ). But what I found is that when a nurse becomes a patient it's totally different. The patient even though he/she might be a nurse is thinking more about themselves and their needs. I can't say I've noticed a difference in nurses who knew I was a nurse, in fact I think they are glad because they don't have to explain everything. But that could be a problem. I was an OB/GYN nurse and had Orthopedic surgery which was way out of my comfort zone. But I have to say I had great nursing care. I once had my nursing instructor as a patient and was all jelly inside ! She told me that she was glad that she taught me so well lol

I have never had an interview where I had to do a case study. But I have had Interviewers ask me questions about how I would handle a certain situation having to do with making decisions on the nursing unit. They want to know your thinking process and how you would handle it.

I would like to know why the patient was seizing in the first place.

As I recall we had to document the amount of Liquor that we poured and we kept in a locked cupboard in the Med room.

We had a resident who was on Hospice and was allowed 2 shots of Whiskey prn. She had been on Hospice I think for a year. She rarely asked for pain medication and she actually was wheeled out of the LTC Facility !

I have and also staff that I have worked with have had to do this if we don't get enough blood for a Blue top, because the lab will call and say they don't have enough blood.

Some hospitals have a general "Rights and Responsibilities" form for a patient to read, but are not obligated to sign. They are just statements, and are not mandatory to read.

Would you as a new nurse approach someone who belittles you every time you ask a question? At least the OP knew that she needed help and didn't walk away from it ! Good Luck x3Divine, it will get better !
