Great. My charge nurse gives me students over the nurses that hate nursing students because I will teach them a little bit. But guess what. The CI that pops in and says you ok every four hours is still more responsible for the students' learning than both me and the student. Granted the CL cannot make the student learn. I fail to understand why you are letting them (the CI) off the hook.

Dear ns responding. Still not the staff nurses job to teach you. It's your schools responsibility. I graduated less than 3 years ago. I passed all meds with my instructor. My teacher would find out things that were happening on the unit like dressing changes and or ivs that needed to be started and teach all us. Not have a staff nurse teach us. As its not the staff nurses job to teach nursing students. Guess I went to a great adn program. And please. We do care about the next generation of nurses. But it's still your school's responsibility to teach you. Not the staff nurses. And I love to teach. Teaching my patients and their families about their illnesses is the thing I love most about my job. And I love to precept new nurses. But as a student you should have higher expectations of your school and its teachers and not some random nurse you are paired up with for the day.

I have read most of the replies on this thread. And we also had this conversation a work with a student nurse who is working on our unit for the summer. The student asked why it appeared that nurses did not like to teach. The other nurse in the room and I gave similar answers. We are not paid extra for the joy of having a student and it is more work for the nurse to have a student (you make a tech's day easier not ours). And we also discussed how the goals of a student nurse don't line up with a nurse. A sn wants to practice certain skills and to get info to write a care plan. And a nurse wants to do her job. Also a sn is not on the same schedule. They take long lunches come late. Leave early and have meetings with their teachers. Than come back and want me to catch them up on what's been happening? Um no. Understand op. That you will learn lots in your nurse residency, those nurses will be paid to teach and nurture you. I did not have to pass the pa's by more than 10 points. In fact I did not even pass the pa for stats. Just pass and move on. We all get Bs.

Speaking from the field. Nursing is just not about holding grannies hand. It's about dealing with over demanding families. Patients that should be in mental hospitals but cannot get placement so you have to care for them. Plus dealing unrelenting demanding patients in pain. Plus dying grannies. And that's just Wednesday. I am not an overly stressed or anxious person. But if you do go in to nursing. Understand that it is a stressful environment. And pick your field carefully. Go into occupational or physical therapy.

You can schedule the phone calls around your life. My calls with my my mentor literally took 3 minutes a week. By the end of my term (did it all in one 6 month term) had one call every other week. Loved wgu. So much better for me than discussion posts.

But it is someone's job to educate the adult children what worse than some sugar to get the mess down are no meds at all.

I graduated in January. And I took one term. I think it really depends on your mentor. My mentor opened any thing I asked and did not have me pass the pa's by over 10 points. She just opened them when I said I was ready. If your mentor is holding you back. Switch.

It's different. I went to ns with the attitude that I am a smart person that already had a Bachelors degree. How hard can it be? I was humbled in the first semester. Between labs and clinicals and classes. It's just different. Just go in with an open mind and be flexible.

This. Thank you. This is what my instructors did. I rarely saw the staff nurse and I did not bug her unless to tell her what we had done with the patient. But when students come to my floor the instructors just sit while we the staff nurses are expected to teach the students without extra pay? I am a preceptor on my floor, but that means I get get paid extra for taking time to explain what I am doing. I thought I would like have students. But it just means extra work for me if their teacher expects me to do all the teaching.

Do some research. There are a lot of wgu grads that have gone on to grad schools.

Hi I finished all 34 credits in 6 months. Including time off to take vacations and family obligations and working OT. Its a great program.

For an interview they know you will not know a lot about neuro as a new grad. They are looking to see if you can respond to situations. How would you respond in a customer service situation. How would you respond in a emergent situation? Stuff like that.

It's not. There are some hybrid programs that have online classes. But there is no cna to rn bridge program.

Do what is best for you. And what you can afford. I did the asn to bsn route graduated in 2014. Work in a hospital. Have my bsn already.

The vast majority of the time I agree with this. I despise when people call me to do things they could do. Drives me batty. Or when doctors don't talk to each other and I am in the middle of conflicting orders. But on note of hope. A lab tech helped to feed one of my little old patients the other day. Made me so glad to see her just being kind. (And before any one jumps down my throat, he was sitting up the tray was set up I had just been pages away. He could feed him self. Just too forgetful.

Hi I live in Georgia. And I have taken those classes you speak of within the last 5 years. So please don't tell me to chill. And I passed. Got into nursing school. The colleges are not intentionally trying to weed you out. You are giving the schools fast too much credit. They want you to pass. There is a standard set and if you don't pass, you are 'weeded out' by circumstances. And before you insult people that come before you, It's easier to get A's now than ever before.
