  1. Brownsm46, Wow this is horifice, I agree that you have a great amount of education but some of us can not afford to attend college for BSN. Personally I don't see the need to have to take all those English, Speech, etc course to become a nurse. I don't think any of the non-nursing courses except maybe Math, or Psych. are necessary in the working world. I don't think that most of us as LPN's want to be treated like a BSN nurse, but I do think we would like to be treated like a nurse who has education and skills to accomplish the work that we have to do. I have respect for all nurse whether they are an LPN, ADN, or BSN. I respect those that respect me for what I do. I do, however, believe that BSN nurses are basically trained for management, which is fine, but I believe that LPNs, and ADNs are more trained for technical and skills, most the the nurses that I have worked with are mainly LPNs and ADNs and most want to work hands-on and not managment, that's why we choose what we choose. Not to mention that most of us that are LPNs or ADNs are family oriented and do not have the time or money to pursue the BSN degree. I personally think that what you said is very hurtful, we are all trying our best to provide for our patients in a professional manner, no matter what the degree. An I personally don't think anyone would like a monkey to insert a foley. I appreciate you, you should try to appreciate and respect others less educated then you, but that may have the skills to get the job done.

  3. I an an LPN and have been for 8 years and I have worked in nursing homes mainly. I however, was the Director of Assisted Living for two facilities I loved the job but it was very demanding, being that I was in charge of staff and everything to do with DHEC compliance, hiring, firing, payroll etc. Basically I was in charge, I did have an Administrator but they mainly do marketing and keep the building running. The pay was great, but once again the hours were ridiculous. I have never worked in a hospital nor have I ever wanted to. It just seems like down here they don't hire many LPN's for hospital care. I personally don't think you are missing a thing, if you enjoy what you are doing I suggest you stay with it.

Personally I think you should go straight for the ADN program, I am an LPN (school nurse) and love being an LPN but if I had the opportunity to do the ADN I would have. I just wanted to see what nursing was about first, and then by the time I finished and got a job the money was so good, I never went back and I regret it. You will have more opportunities if you go to the ADN program right off.
  5. davisll replied to Q.'s topic in General Nursing
First of all some of us LPN's chose to be LPN's because we are want to get our feet in the door while waiting to get in the RN program or because we want to try out nursing to see if that is what we choose as a career. In my case I was 26 when I went back to school and wanted to make sure that's what I wanted to do, and the RN program was full with a long waiting list, now almost 8 years later I wish I had went on and finished school, because money is not there now to go back. As for being an LPN I love it and I wish people like you would stop dragging us down, there are just as many good LPN's as RN's. As a matter of fact, most of the RN's that come out of a BSN program know little or nothing in the clinical field. As for the ADN program I know several ADN RN's who I trust more than BSN RN's they have more clinical skills. Don't judge people just because they don't have the same title as you, some of us are just as good.
  6. \This is so sad, I feel like this if you all feel that way about LPN's you should be mad at the administration for changing things, because years ago LPN's practically ran the hospitals, the administration changed that. Don't hate the LPN hate the administration, and if you feel so strongly about working with LPN's maybe you should refuse to work with one since we are more trouble then helpful.

You have a real bad attitude, we are all working to help people, that's why most of us got into nursing whether we are a CNA, LPN, or RN. I really hate this debate, and you really have no business being in the healthcare field with an attitude like that, we all have to work as a team.

First of all Suzy Q you haven't even been a nurse long enough to even have an opinion.
