Buckboomer, I think that your advice to get some sleep, keep positive and exercise is great, all of which I try to do to keep sane, but I think it would also be great advice for those who need it, like those who are maliciously venting on others here at this BB. I can be empathetic and understanding, but not to those who come here to put others down in order to feel better themselves. As for how I have time to come here as a student, it only takes a couple minutes out of my day, and I enjoy reading some of the posts, like the one posted yesterday about things you can do to make your patients laugh! As for struggling through nursing school being the ONLY bond that nurses have, I'd have to disagree, as I have found that nurses have several commonalities, and many strong ties that bind you together. Nurses are a breed on their own, nursing is a not a career, but a way of life. Just my thoughts! Thanks for your post though, got me thinking. Sarah, 4th year student

TO SUZY K AND STUDENT SARAH!
I wasn't pointing any fingers, and nor was it any single post that prompted my post, but as one of the repliers to my post said, you guys need a place to vent and be able to speak your opinions, I just won't read the catty posts! Thanks for your post Boss!

AllnursesWAR.com
If it's not one thing it's another! I have just started coming to this website over the last couple of months, and lately it doesn't excite me. It doesn't seem like a place to have discussions, or learn from other nurses, but rather arguements, and some pretty mean ones at that! I know myself, I live by "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." Do those of you who are smashing other nurses, be they RN's (young or old), Student nurses, LPN's ~ feel better about yourselves after posting your horrible, degrating comments? Just a question.

Conscious Sedation
Today, as part of my practicum, I got to shadow the nurses in Endo. There are 2 nurses in the room here, and I was wondering to myself the very same thing ~ legalities with RN's sedating patients? The doctor was not even present when the nurses started sedating the pt. I too am interested in everyone's responses!

Is fighting professional
kjmta57, You were reading my mind! The last while some of the nurses on here have been bickering and nit picking, over and over regarding misinterpretted comments, licensing, you name it! I love coming here to hear inspirational and heartwarming stories from my own breed. Sometimes when I see a commment that angers me on this board, I try to take a breather and think about what my angered reply would do. Will it benefit others? If not, then I don't post it. Simple as that.

Why is it LPN VS RN?
I hate the conflict between the LPN's and RN's I've noticed so far in my 3rd year clinical experience. I've noticed it between the RN's and LPN's in some cases, the LPN's and student nurses, and between the student nurses and practical student nurses. IT DRIVES ME NUTS! From RN's thinking that they don't have to get their hands dirty, to LPN's being on a power trip when shadowed by SN's, to my peers talking about how when they are RN's they won't have to do certain jobs anymore, to a pracatical nursing student constantly cutting down SN's! I think that LPN's and RN's should work together, and not think so much of thier own status, and just of the status of their patient. I think things would run a lot smoother. I think of LPN's as a very valuable part of a health care team, and communication between the RN's and LPN's is the only way things are going to work. Am I alone?

How old are you?
Hi there! I'm 21 and in my 3rd year of the BScN program, and I'd say that the avg age of my class is 23-24. Not one guy though in 70 classmates!

Context Based Learning
I too am in the CBL in Alberta, and am really undecided on the whole issue. In some respects, like when a classmate shares a personal experience related to the scenario with the group, I couldn't think of a better way to learn and remember something, BUT when the whole group is fumbling about something they are unsure of for 30 minutes, and we spend at least 45 minutes evaluating our performance in tutorial today, I think that I may be able to use my hour and fifteen more effectively, or that I'd rather have had a lecture on something for an hour and really been able to pull something solid out of it. You know? Undecided; Sarah
