Anyone taken NC I recently?
Took NC1 in Feb. Read the free Excelsior Content Guide....and the textbooks Excelsior recommends...they develop the tests from these. Don't get sucked into paying for Rue, Chancellors, College Network...or if you want them people sell the stuff on Ebay. Buy used textbooks from Amazon.com, or bn.com....older versions are okay....nothing much changes except the price of the textbook or chapter number. TAKE THE PRACTICE EXAMS from Excelsior, they are 75 dollars and you have 120 days to review them anytime you want on the website...you can't print them out.....these are the very real type of questions on the test (very similiar in my experience) if you read the rationales you will learn something). Good luck

help, is chancellors the way????
Well, Excelsior College designs their own exams, the others (Chancellor's , College Network, Rue, etc are publishing companies that publish study guides for Excelsior college. You can buy them on E-bay for cheap.....But Excelsior developed the test and tells you what references to study from....Dont get suckedc into paying thousands of $ for study guides... Do what you must but beware...

In a rut with studying
Are you an Excelsior student? I tried distance classes at my local community college first, did good, and finished general ed, now studying for NC1. I feel your "rut" pain, cause I was just there. What got me out of my rut is....my husband said I was as bad as the kids...going to take 7 years for a 4 year degree...I scheduled my test, paying that money and having a date is a BIG motivator....I know have a concrete date, paid and am studying...map out a calander for your self.....plan on studyin in small bits if that helps...sometimes I take breaks...study for 30min-1hr....break for 10 minutes or watch 30 min of tv...then back at it....hope this helps. :)

Whats the best prerequisites to take with excelsior first
Microbiology is useful before A&P, you need to understand the principles of these before nursing classes. If you have no college experience, the distance learning could be a struggle at first. Perhaps you should consider taking a class or two at the local community college to see how you do! Psychology is fun, (that is why so many people get a degree in it but can never make any money), so maybe try something like that or English Comp, that can be overwhelming if you have no practice writing, to get in the practice of studying schedule and see if distance learning is for you!!! Good luck, plus your local community college has placement testing available to see where you fit in, and your learning style, these are all resources that can be a help when starting out, DONT RUSH.

Distance Education?
Well, I have taken distance classes, sometimes you have to go to the campus and test, others are all online testing. You should call the college and e-mail the professor as to what the class requirements are. All are not the same...people can't give you a general answer for this question. I am amazed by how many people seek answers to these questions online! Your college has advisors and ways in place to answer these questions, your enrollment fees go towards paying these people, use the source for your information!!!

pros and cons of excelsior
Some advice, don't sign up to Excelsior right away. Call or go to the website get a catalog and view the general education classes you need. Not all the Excelsior exams are transferable to other colleges for credit. Maybe look at taking some of the classes at the local community college for credit (Micorbiology and Anatomy and Physiology) are much easier to learn in a classroom setting w/ a lab for most students. Try some distance classes at your community college, (telecourses and online courses) to see if you are a good distance learner. Your local community college has quizzes available to see if this type of learning is right for you (and much cheaper to try out). If these are agreeable for you, you can get all your general education and Nursing Concepts 1 and aybefore paying Excelsior's enrollment fee. Distance learning is not for everyone. Try it before you pay. Distance learning is VERY self motivated. Don't be in rush. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR CHANCLELLOR'S, COLLEGE NETWORK, or RUE. They are publishing companies that sell study guides to get thru Excelsior's progam, Excelsior has all the information on textbooks to study available for free (the information, not the textbooks). Textbooks can be bought used for cheap on the internet (example Amazon.com or BN.com. Take your time and look into it, GOOD LUCK!

Tattoos and nursing
Hello, I think tattoos and excessive piercings look unprofessional for anyone. If people are going to have tattoos and try to appear professional at work, they should be wear clothing should cover them up. It is your right to have tattoos, but it is also someones right when hiring you to not hire you based on them. Have you ever seen an elderly man that had tons of tattoos on their skin as they have aged, they no longer look so cool! Also there are issues with people having MRI's and tattooed skin. Something to think about.
