  1. Hey In south jersey between 20-26/hr for a new grad. Im pretty sure it's higher up north!
  2. Hello! Im going into my second term at an LPN program in southern NJ. I haven't been able to get an idea of how long it typically takes graduate students to sit for the exam. I am due to graduate in July ( God willing) We have a pretty intense 6 week prep through ATI for the boards the last month and a half of my program. I've heard of some students traveling to del to sit for the exam sooner. This program is taking a huge toll on me financially and I'd like to believe that I'll be able to work as a nurse Sooner then later after graduation.. So what was your experience ? Thank you!!!
  3. Hi! In my 6th month of an LPN program and I graduate in July. The best advice I can give you since you've got a full year to prepare would be to buy a anatomy and physiology book and a nursing fundamentals book. A lot of programs including mine use elsevior books. You can get them cheap online. You'll be doing yourself a huge favor if you know the ins and outs of all the systems of the body and how they are supposed to function. Good luck!
  4. Hello! Im going into my 4th month of a PN program. Don't let the other students with medical experience discourage you. I thought that because I've been a CNA for 10 years that the program would be easier for me... ITS NOT! What you learn as a cna is only a small small I'll emphasize that again SMALL portion of the theory and dialect you'll learn in nursing school. After 3 months I'm kind of just getting the hang of things and beginning to see how I learn and the best ways for me to study. It's a life altering process.. One in which you'll reinvent yourself. Don't worry about clinicals you will do just fine. Take it day by day and remind yourself that you are new to this.. Be easy on yourself because as novice students WE WILL make mistakes. Good luck on your journey you'll be just fine!
  5. Got some compression socks and what a difference! Thank you for the suggestion!!!!!
  6. I bought a pair and have been wearing them for the past week. What a difference!!!!
  7. I'm currently tin my third month of PN school. I'd say half of the class is older than yourself. We even have a 58 year old attending. You are NOT too old! Good luck on your journey!
  8. I've been in a PN program for three months. It's a ft M-F program with lecture 3 out of the 5 days. We sit for 6 hours and my body feels like it's slowly falling apart. My lower legs feel like tree trunks! During our lunch a few other classmates and I walk around the school but it doesn't seem to be aliveating the fluid retention I'm experiencing. I've also been walking on my treadmill when I've got time 2-3 x a week. Besides the pain and uncomfort this creates I'm concerned it's effecting my ability to stay focused. I squirm so much during lecture that I'm missing important information. Are there any suggestions you guys have?
  9. Hi all! So, I am about 1 1/2 months into my 11 month LPN program. I'm doing alright with about a B average but I've noticed my grades slipping especially in the science classes like a&p. This is a very jammed packed course so as of now I am taking a&p,gerontology, personal and community health, microbiology, dosage calcs, and fundamentals of nursing. I go to school 5 days a week and there is a test every day and ALOT of homework due. I'm having a really hard time actually absorbing information because the only time I seem to be able to strictly focus on one subject is the night before a test. My questions for you guys who have been through this is; Once clinicals started and you weren't in the classrooms as much did it become more manageable? I'm hoping that once we get these science and other subjects completed it won't be so jammed packed. It's really difficult for me to juggle all of these subjects. I am a hands on learner so I am praying that once we are in the clinical setting the textbooks for med surg etc will only be a compliment to what I am seeing on the units. I'm trying to stay as positive as possible because I am really lucky to have been accepted into this school. It's the cheapest and has an excellent reputation with a high nclex pass rate. Any stories or suggestions would be comforting. Have a wonderful weekend all!!!
  10. First let me say congratulations on making it this far with amazing grades! It's normal to feel that way. If you didn't there would be reason for concern. Through my experience you never learn it all in a class room.. You absolutely have to get on the job training. And as a novice nurse you will have a proctor until you're comfortable working alone. Don't worry! You ARE competent! And will be a GREAT nurse!!!
  11. Congratulations on starting nursing school Molly! I'm a little late but I was wondering the same thing as you a month ago. A great watch is made by prestige it's silver with an expandable wrist. The watch is convienent because when you wash your hands you can stretch it up your arm it also has a second hand sweep and military time which will be needed when you chart. It's about 30.00 in a uniform store but you can get it online for about 20.00 As for the sneakers I just bough sketcher go walk white shoes without laces. Not sure how well these will work to my advantage after standing on my feet all day.. But you may want to look into nurse mate white leather ones. I'd suggest danskos as they are great ( and expensive) but our director said no clogs good luck with your journey through lpn school!!!
