KAISER ASSISTANT NURSE MANAGER
Wondering if there are any members here who have personally taken the role of ANM for an inpatient dept at a Kaiser hospital, whether in the past or currently. I have an interview setup but contemplating if I should go through with it since I have not had good managers within KP in the past, also the fact that you don't have Union to help protect you, the 24/7 job, etc. Pay is obv really good but I don't know if I should go through the interview process if I have a lot im already worrying about

Yes I did, quit after two weeks in, didn't even reach part of actual buddy training. Too much info during training/orientation with optimization consultant RN. Felt it was too much work and definitely and I couldn't stress this enough, definitely too much micromanaging, even for Kaiser.Been with KP for over a decade, and this micromanagement is the worst I have seen. Cannot touch or move your mouse an inch until shift starts so it is standard to be a minute or so late while logging in. gotta send email everyday to timekeeping to tell them why youre late logging in. Calls are recorded, can be listened to real time, review calls with you and give u input (which thats just standard practice obv) but its just overall, I felt like a kid being watched and told what to do, when in reality I have saved numerous lives, etc. Jts a different kind of nursing, yes I am aware. I just wasnt aware how I will feel like a child while working. Plus ofc youre being timed while using bathroom. So take my opinion witha grain of salt. But if I know someones timing me and I gotta go #2, the longer it will take me to do my business. I hated it Maybe when im older and cant physically do physical patient facing work anymore, I will reconsider.. but prob not

Hi, IDK if anyone else is active on this thread now since it's been a while. I'm starting my telemedicine specialist RN position for KPOC next wk and wanted to get some input. It's purely WFH now other than the initial day of getting all the equipment from SD. It looks like the turn over's been oretty high for this dept so kinda scares me going into it. I was also told that it'd be hard to go back to bedside within KP unless I have another bedside job bec KPOC doesnt fall under acute care anymore. Anxious to start but also IDK how bad the micronanaging is.

Hey! OMG yeah that's what I thought too, if I can have Ben Hudnall pay for the entire thing, then I am definitely in! I didn't know it was possible! Can I ask when you took your breaks? Like after how many or which classes? And were you able to use any other KP education dollars whatsoever for all the other stuff in the program that you need to pay for? The advisor was talking about unlimited education dollars or something but I wasn't sure if I understood her on that part because apart from the annual BHMT, I only know of the stipend that we can use while working. But yeah if you can enlighten me as to how your program schedule looked with those breaks just so I can kinda map out what it'll look like for me too, maximizing each dollar I get from BHMT ? TIA!

Hi AM35, that is actually a really good question and I'm not for sure but I will ask my advisor next wk. She sent me a list of their clinical guidelines and they basically outline what each clinical course requires in terms of what type of patient population you're expected to care for, what type of providers can precept you, and what type of facilities are acceptable. I will let you know more once I hear from her next wk!

Hi Christine!OMG thank you so much for all that information! That was very informative and very helpful! I start my 3P classes in August. Is there any way I can ask your classmate/friend who's also a KP employee some questions about how she tailored her program schedule accdg to our Ben hudnall program? Bec my plan was to also take breaks so I won't have any out of pocket costs. Im just trying to figure out what my program schedule might look like if I do it that way. Thank you!

Hi! KP employee here too! I don't have any advanced degree like you yet, but hoping to pursue my MSN FNP from American Sentinel through the BHMT program. I guess I can't really answer your question but wanted to share for me personally, I'm going through the BHMT because it can practically pay for an entire program, depending on school and program. But I spoke with two diff universities that BHMT works with and they both told me I can sign up for up to $5250 worth of courses a year and take a break afterwards so I don't go over what Ben provides. I would like to finish within 28 months but if it means getting to go for practically free then I'm okay taking some breaks. I am really interested in tech as well tho and almost went for MSN informatics but I have decided to pursue FNP first and get a post Master's in Informatics down the road. I hope I can find a school that offers a post-grad program like that. I Hope you get figure out what works for you! ☺️

Hi!! So I legit read every single comment on this thread because my anxiety got the best of me! I have decided to pursue my MSN-FNP with Post U/American Sentinel and I wanted to get some insight on the program. As I can see on here, a lot of you guys have already started and some are close to finishing the program (YAY!). Is there anything you can pass on to us who are just about to start? I don't have a start date yet. Also I read someone post about a statistics class. I actually didn't take Stats in my undergrad as well, somehow I placed out but I really don't remember how I placed out of it. Does anyone know if it is required even before any of the 3Ps? ? Some background: I work for KP in SoCal and am going thru the BHMT to go back to school. I have extensively spoken with AmSentinel and expressed that I would prefer to not have to pay any out of pocket costs (as far as tuition goes). I believe I will have to take some breaks in order to not exceed the $$ capping that the BHMT program provides annually... which would prolong the program/degree completion a bit for me but if it means no out of pocket costs, then I'm okay with that. I have three kids, 3mos/6y/8y, and so I have my hands full anyways plus working FT. Anyways Im hoping to meet some fellow future FNP students on here especially if there are any from SoCal as well ? It has been over 10 years since I graduated from my BSN and I have never done any class that's fully online so this is definitely quite a change, but I am looking forward to it! **I saw there's a fb group but I don't have social media at all m, haven't had one for a year now, otherwise I would join the group and get info on there too ? Thanks! A
