  1. I totally agree with "cherish" about the study area. I do my studying in my bedroom with the door shut and I do take breaks because my little pea brain can only take in so much info at a time. I also start a few days prior to a test and DO NOT try to do the overnight cram which does work for some people but not me. I also read one time that you should make ONE place in your home your study area and stick with it. I found that when I studied in my room, I knew what I was there to do. When I went downstairs and tried, it just didn't work..I think because I had to get used to a new place to study. So if you study at the library or something maybe it should be in the same area. Not sure how you can get anything studied at Starbucks like you mentioned. I think I would be distracted from the time I sat down. Melody:Melody:
  2. Yes, that would really help you becase the school is right in your backyard and it might help take some of the people that are on other wait lists. Let me know if you find anything out. Melody
  3. I can't wait either! I will be taking A&P 1 and Pre Algebra:bluecry1: This is the first time in a LONG time that I am totally fired up about taking a class and REALLY getting into it! January 17th can't get here any quicker. Please remind me that I said this in April when I am baning my head on the wall...hee hee!! Melody
  4. Do you need to have a BSN in order to qualify for a Case Management position? Would a ASN work? Thanks! Melody:p
  5. How did you like doing an online class? Did you have support of somekind in case you had questions? Melody:clown:
  6. Correct me if I am wrong on this but during the summer there was an article in the Contra Costa Times about Las Positas College. They mentioned that there was a possibility of a nursing program starting up out there in the near future. Do you now anything about that Val000? If so, that would be great. You might not need to travel so far. Let me know if you hear or know anything about it. Thanks, Melody
  7. OUCH!!! $13,000 a semester!! It is nice to know that there is a school that I could get into if I can't get into a CC. Thanks for letting me know. Yes, I am in the Bay area - I am in Contra Costa county. Was it hard to get into your school? Melody
  8. Hi There, I am will be taking A&P this semester (Apring 2006) at Los Medanos College and was wondering if anyone else out there this currently going to Los Medanos or Solano, Napa, Ohlone or anyother CC in Northern California? How do you like your program? Thanks:clown: Melody
  9. I like this idea. You will already get to know many of the people that work there and when the time comes to be hired, you will know what departments you like and ones that you want to avoid like the plague:eek: I am currently in retail and HATE it! :angryfire The hours are great (9-2 on most days during the week and 9-5:30 on Saturdays) but I will be putting in my 2 weeks this Friday so that I can take a few more classes and be able to study. Melody
  10. Hello all fellow A&P people! I will be starting my class on 1/17 (I think that is the date). I am going to a community college here in Northern California. Anyone else from California? If so what school do you go to? I can't WAIT to take this class. I just finished Medical Terminology and LOVED it so I am excited to see what A&P is going to be like. My husband took this class a few years ago and told me that if you just read your material and do my homework that everything will be just fine. Melody
  11. Is the burn out rate high in this department? I thought that you had to have a bit of experience under your belt before you could go into ER. Can you really go in right after you are done with your education? Melody :Snowman1:
  12. So what do you do when the family starts making demands on you such as the "Warm Blankets, working TV and Phone" and all the other percs that they think that it is there for them? Do you have to remind them that they are not the patient? Just curious. I am not a nurse yet but I can't belive the nerve that some people have. Melody
  13. I am slightly confused. In another post regarding employment at a few hospitals in Nashville, the poster mentioned that she was not offered a sign on bonus while in Memphis they are giving a nice size sign on. Is Baptist, Vanderbilt and the other bigger hospitals in Nashvile picky or is this common? Melody
  14. Is this really true?? My family and I are thinking about moving to Tennessee and this makes me a little nervous. I have been to Vanderbilt's website and it looks like there is a huge need for nurses so I am not sure what to believe. Can someone please clairify this for me? Thanks so much!! :thankya: Melody :Melody:
  15. This is really something!!! I thought I was in the same boat but I see I have lots of company!! I have started a few things too and I think I have seen the same "here we go again" face from my husband. But I told him that I really I was meant to be doing this along time ago! I get so jazzed about what I am studying and can't see doing anything else. I am starting my pre reqs at 42. I am not sure when I will get into nursing school yet as my school is on the lottery system but I will not give up trying either! So glad to hear that I got some awesome people in the same boat with me!! Melody
  16. WOW!! Thanks for all the great info!! I really appreciate it! Thanks for taking the time to answer my post. I will start the nursing seminar on the 29th of this month. I think I will get alot of answers to my questions on this day (hopefully) but I feel that I got a good idea of how intense it is from your email. If it is as intense as the fire academy was for my husband then I see why you had to give up your social life. Well, I won't take up too much of your time as I can see you have a lot on your plate at the moment. I do want to congragulate :balloons: you on getting in on your first try. In my med term class there is a gal that has tried twice to get in and has not made it. I think this was my biggest concern. Oh by the way, thanks for mentioning how many passed the NCLEX. That is a great passing rate (not that I know alot about it) but if only two failed then there is a good chance I could pass it (hopefully) Thanks again and good luck to you too!!! Melody :Melody:
  17. Thanks so much! Melody :Melody:
  18. Anyone going to Los Medanos for the LVN or the RN program? A friend and I are working on our pre reqs and would like to hear from anyone that is going to see what it is like. Thanks so much! Melody :Melody:
  19. Hi there, Thanks for responding to my question. When you say a ADN, you mean a Associate Degree in Nursing? If so, I think that that they have one there. I checked on the school website and saw it but I was wondering if anyone knows how long the waitlist is for the program. If I read it right, there is a LPN program, a RN program and a LPN to RN program. Does anyone know how long the wait list is for these? Thanks so much, Melody :Melody:
  20. Hi there! I am so glad that you posted!! A friend of mine and I are working on our Pre Reqs and I would really love some pointers. How long did it take you to get in?? How do you like it? Any info that you can give me will be greatly appreciated!! Melody :Melody:
  21. Hi, Anyone here doing the LPN program at Columbia in Middle Tennessee? If so, what is the waitlist like? How did you like the program? Thanks so much!! Melody :Melody:
  22. Oh THANK YOU Mary Rose!! :thankya: I will be 43 in October and I am just starting my Pre reqs. It seems that with such a demand for nurses that there should not be too much consideration given to age...well unless you don't ahve a pulse!! I am SO glad to hear that I am not in this boat alone! Thanks so much everyone!! Melody :Melody:
