Patient/Family Rage
Hi, anyone out there experiencing, witnessing, or hearing about the mental, verbal, and even physical rage directed at nurses and nursing staff by patients and familes. We see more and more of it nowdays. Any thoughts, ideas, or plan to rectify it? Does your institution have a plan for "us?" as well as "them?" Randy

Pt/Family RAGE
Any of you experience verbal, mental, and or physical abuse from the patients or family you take care of? The frequency of this has noticibly arisen in the past 5 or so years. We see immeadiate acting crisis teams to provide support and care to the family and patient when their issues begin. Our nurses and aides seem to have none of this support. We go through episodes of inner anger and strife without assistance of how to channel it out of our systems. We go home with these problems and asorb it all, possibly improperly, or maybe not even asorbing it. Thus, not wanting to return to work or to take on the same patient/family, which drops out the consistancy factor of care. Any ideas or report of teams supporting US for a change? Randy

Family "Rage" toward nurses
Any thoghts on the way nurses/staff are abused verbally, mentally, and even physically by the patients' family or even the patients? Does your institution have a crisis team for on the spot support for nursing personel going through this abuse?

Switching careers to nursing. who has done it?
I have been an RN for 11 yrs now and earned my degree BSN at the age of 45. I was medic in the Vietnam era. Before I worked many facets in the construction industry. Nusing is good when we can "Nurse." There is a lot of baggage to carrry along with the job. To do it again I would seek a slant on Sonography of Nuclear Med nursing. Great future in these fields.
