I'm stuck and I don't know what to do
Thank you! Oh and good news: I am now taking coursecourses that will go towards my nursing degree. I talk to the school I want to transfer into next year and they told me since it's a direct entry private university that they don't require perquisites and I should be fine If I could get at least a 3.0 and pass my entrance exam.

Currently on DUI Probation with a recent ADN Degree
California is not a very forgivingstate, and it is one of the worst states to be convicted of a crime in and also trying to get licensed. You could always look into other states but I'm sure that 3 years of probation will definitely follow you to the end of the earth, plus this DUI has happened too recently for anyone to give you a definate answer. I suggest getting yourself a legal lawyer who could help you to at least get your license with just some stipulations and a few restrictions or maybe none. But a license is better than no license. But definitely look into a lawyer because we're really not allowed to give legal advice on this site...

The Truth About Nursing
There is actually a couple nice looking male nurse who works at the hospital I volunteer at and she got a glimpse of them as well. Lol, and I didn't know there are a lot of gay male nurses...

The Truth About Nursing
Lol, I did not make this thread to "dog" my friend because if I wanted to I would've wrote her name in the post. I also did not create this thread to elicit responses, otherwise I would've asked for your response like I do in my other posts. This thread was made solely on the purpose to inform others how people really do think that nursing is a laid back, clean profession. So if I came off as if I was chastising my friend then I apologize because that was not my intent and I didn't do it intentionally.
-
The Truth About Nursing
I should probably change the title then because it wasn't made clear to me until now that this was the reason why people are getting offended? I only meant this thread to share some insight on my friend's thoughts of how she really don't know what she's getting herself into until she gets a real glimpse of it, and their are more people like that who just chose nursing because it's convenience. Like how I wanted to be a veterinarian not know anything about it until I actually shadowed a vet, and that's when I quickly changed majors when the time was convenient.
-
The Truth About Nursing
I agree because I originally wanted to be a veterinarian because I loved animals and at one point I had 5 dogs. But after spending a day in a vet hospital I was not at all swayed to get into that profession. I mean one dog even tried to attack me when I went to pet it.

The Truth About Nursing
I'm not a nurse, but I'm around nurses daily so I get to witness a lot to comment on it and give pointers to my friend. Just saying.

The Truth About Nursing
Wow lol, I didn't think my post would offend so many people (like jeez). In my earlier post I didn't mean to make it sound like I was controlling her and her future, she can be a nurse if she wants to. Yeah, I did make her aware of the financial obligation, but I cannot in any way stop a grown woman from doing what she wants to do. Just because I suggested something else doesn't mean she's going to do it. I told her the ADN would be the cheaper route for her and she could get into the profession much sooner, because she originally thought the only way to become a RN was to get your BSN. So I don't see how I'm wrong for that, but sorry if I came off too judgmental. I agree with you.

The Truth About Nursing
Lol, the hospital that I currently volunteer at hires ADN nurses, plus there's are all sorts of community hospitals in the Chicago suburbs that still hire ADNs (I looked into it before I suggested it to my friend). But I do know what you're getting at. However, she already took out a pretty big private loan to pay off the university we are currently attending. She even joked about being over a 80k by the time she graduates. I don't see how it's funny though. Everyone flocks downtown for the "BSN preferred" so now the community hospitals has no choice to still hire the ADNs.

The Truth About Nursing
If I offended someone with my earlier or original post that was not my intentions. My main point was that she said her comment as if she was doing it only for the money, and I honestly don't think the pay is worth it for someone who Is only doing it for the money. That's what I meant, and she has a strange phobia of feet, so I don't know how it'll work out for her seeing feet a lot. She's my roommate so I should know. And that's why "money" is in bold print. Because I do agree the pay is good money if you love what you do.

The Truth About Nursing
I didn't actually think I was making her do anything. I'm not directly telling her to not to become a CNA or get her BSN. Plus, I just want to help her because she's my friend.
-
The Truth About Nursing
Lol, I know a CNA can assist in a birth. And I'm not trying to sabotage my friend, I'm actually helping her by not allowing her to take out a high amount of private loans. She doesn't qualify for finacial aid because her mother doesn't have a SSN, and she just decided she wanted to be a nurse two days after her niece's birth when she was looking into becoming a CNA. She didn't even look into what nursing was or what nurses do. And yeah I do know about nursing, and just because I'm a pre-nursing student doesn't me I'm uneducated about the field I want be in for the better part of my life. Plus, the money is not worth it in her home state where new grads are started off at $18 an hour. Here in Chicago, most are started of at $27+ an hour.

advice on career decision
If you truly want to get that 1 year of ICU experience then I say go for it. You may start off rough in the beginnings of transitioning but it'll soon go more smoothy once you and your gets kids settled. Plus, you'll have that extra benefit of $4.07. It's not much, but it'll still help you in your journey of saving up for CRNA school.

the wait is killing me
Lol, and you were going crazy.

The Truth About Nursing
Tell me about it! After shadowing a nurse for a few hours I was ready to go home and soak my feet in some hot water. Seriously, I only saw her sit down like once then she was back up on her feet again with me right along with her. She didn't complain not once though which is what I admired about her, and now i'm ready to go back.

The Truth About Nursing
I honestly don't know what she knows so I told her to make an account on here. Hopefully she does to get some insight.

Nursing prerequsites
Also have you looked into Oregon State University? I heard that it's one of the most affordable universities in your state with a good nursing program.
-
Nursing prerequsites
I think it sounds really good. There's nothing wrong with having a plan set in motion for your future goals. Because I personally got down what I want to do with my life in the next 10 years or so. We may not always get what we want but at least you know how you want it.

The Truth About Nursing
I honestly believe that most people don't know what their getting themselves into when they try to pursue a career in nursing. Like seriously! Today, I asked my closest friend why she wants to be a nurse (she's pre-nursing with me) and she said, "Because of the money, the hot male nurses, and because I like babies". Lol, she also wants to get her CNA license next spring because she witnessed the birth of her neice and an actual CNA woman who helped "deliver the baby" told her she could be that in just 3 to 5 weeks. I really just wished that woman would've told her that she'll first probably end up working in a nursing home until then some. So now my friend is saving up to become one. I'm not going to tell her the truth about nursing though, only because she's a grown woman and is capable of making her own decisions and learning about nursing on her own like I had to. Although, I am secretly steering her to get her ADN first before she goes in debt trying to get her BSN, blindly.

Applying to 10 different nursing programs?
Update: I am not doing a full year at my current university for my Ged Ed because the direct entry nursing programs don't start their nursing courses until sophomore year. So now I will only be applying to 3 safe schools; 2 good schools; and 2 high reach school. Which will cost me only $40 in total for the application fees + the $30 for transcript request (I'm not paying this out of pocket but I will be using my scholarship refund money). I will also need to take the Kaplan Admission test (I don't know if the if the test cost yet but it looks to be free). Also these schools do not require prerequisites since they are direct entry programs.

Feeling discouraged.
I will be applying to ten different nursing programs consisting of 4 safe schools (you can never be too safe), 3 good schools, and 2 high reach schools. Because I know that I could get into at least two of the safe schools (rolling admission); one of the good schools; and maybe none of the high reach schools (lol but I'm still going to apply anyway because they don't require an application fee). So my suggestion to you is to not make yourself so limited by only applying to one school; give yourself other options by applying to a lengthy list of college/universities that may interest you or pertain to your needs. Then once those acceptance letters start coming in you'll like the feeling of being in control of own your life by not letting a simple rejection letter or admission representative stop you from other avenues of becoming a nurse. Especially, if you are working hard enough and putting in the effort to learn and to make better of yourself. If you feel like you deserve it then you deserve it; plain and simple. So just remember that for the next two years when you'll probably still be waiting to get into that same dearest nursing program. Good luck to you regarding my $0.02.

Applying to 10 different nursing programs?
Springchivk1, I'm actually top ten of my graduating class and I graduated with a 4.7 on a 5.0 scale for all the other AP classes I took and that's why I received a 15,000 scholarship at the school I'm enrolled in now. I'm just a really horrible test taker and had anxiety the day of the ACT because it was timed and I'm a bit of a perfectionist. But you are right, and that's the reason why I really wanted options on who would give me the most money based on my GPA not my ACT. I'm only retaking the ACT because the high reach schools requires at least a 22 while the others requires a 21 or below.

Applying to 10 different nursing programs?
KeKeylimesqueez, figured that and that's why I'm on only applying to direct entry nursing programs where you only have to apply to the the university once, checking nursing as your attended major and they'll forward it yo them. The safe schools I'm applying to only requires you to get into the university and then your already into the nursing program on a rolling basis. Plus, I just want to really pick the school who will give me the most money and scholarships to show for it. Because if one school doesn't accept me or offer anything in value then the next one will.
