  1. Our tele tech measure and label the strips and it is then verified by an RN. Although it must be said the tele techs know there rhythms better the most the RNs. They monitor primarly pcu and medical floors, Around 34 patients each. they went from phillips to GE and they hate the GE system.
  2. jotec replied to sungrl01's topic in Cardiac
I am not a RN yet but i do work close with the cath lab. I often watch procedures. I think your OR experience will help. There are typically 2 Rn's 1 RCIS and a cardiologist in the room. There is a sterile field. 1 rn admisters meds and helps out the other documents the procedure. I think after orienting you would do great. Good luck, Joe
  3. Have the pt stand. Retake bp and monitor s/s.
  4. When you look at a 12 lead you should consider all the leads. Though typically v1 and v6 are used to determine bbb quickly. Qrs must be >120msec for a lbbb v1 is typically a QS wave or rS wave. V6 is usually a R wave sometimes notched or m shaped. They have a mneumonic for it WiLLiaM MoRRoW W in v1 M in v6. = lbbb. M in v1 w in v6 =rbbb
  5. Try skillstat.com for ecg simulator And on khanacademys site search ecg. They have a good series on ecg. Dont skip out on the anatomy & physiology of the heart it will help you understand what is going on better.
  6. I did not read through the entire post so pardon me if I am late to the party. it is my understanding the change the test every 2 years and that with some recent changes the national averages on the nclex have dropped significantly. 2
  7. definitely US(sonographer) tech of your 2 choices. LPN's are mostly phased out of hospital settings. Also there are areas of US you can specialize in like echocardiography sonographers (echo tech) and specialized areas typically get paid more then general US. I work with echo techs at my hospital and they make more the general US and RN's. I might also be a little biased as i love cardiology but its worth a look. Also something worth noting in any field you want to go into, look it to the demand for new grads in your area. If the market is flooded you will not find a job easily. good luck, Joe
  8. Better to learn early on as opposed to later, but you can't please everyone. If someone does not want to interact with you move on. Based on your post you seem like a kind, caring person so it is their loss. Do not get hung up do your job and shrug it off.
  9. Wow! That is a long wait
  10. Well it is official. I have application anxiety. I applied in late May for a nursing program in my area. Although the application period does not end until mid July, I find myself checking my email daily. I assume I realistically won't find out until end of July or in August. It is pretty maddening to say the least. Although I have learned in life to not be in such a rush to get things done, I find in quite impossible. I am very excited to further my education, and improve the range and quality of care I can provide patients. PS Have an fun and safe 4th! Joe
  11. use a textbook and i recommend khan academy and crash course.
  12. i cannot respond to PM's yet. I do like working at St. mark. I work primary in cardiology and the staff and physicians are great. For the most part. I don't agree with every decision the corporate HCA makes but for the most part only positive experience.
  13. I work at St. Marks which is a, or was a catholic hospital. I have been working there for 3 years and one of the RN's thought i was LDS until a few months ago because she saw drinking coffee lol. living in Utah in general you are frequently going to get asked if you are Mormon. Most are very tolerate of the fact if you are not. I have only been interrogated a couple times. both times by patients. I am not easily offended by the topic of religion and just hear what they have to say.
  14. I have not been accepted yet (won't find out till late july ... ) but my scores were as follows; Read comp 94 grammar 86 vocab 92 math 100 bio 96 ap 84
  15. Expungement of Criminal Records: The Basics | Nolo.com look up your local laws and if you can afford it talk to a lawyer. You may be able to get it removed from the records. If you get it expunged there maybe additional steps to take to have it removed from public access. In some states you cannot remove it from public record. this is only my brief understanding of the topic. I am not a lawyer but i do recommend seeking legal advice if you are concerned. best luck, Joe
  16. my reading comp was broken down Meaning-Word Use 100% Conclusions 75% Implications 91% understanding 100% for a cumulative total of 94% I am just not sure if they use cumulative score or individual.
  17. Aging and Sinoatrial Node Dysfunction Depressed pacemaker activity of sinoatrial node myocytes contributes to the age-dependent decline in maximum heart rate. - PubMed - NCBI
  18. Check out khanacademy! They have lessons on A&P. Watch them alot. I think it would probably take ~12 hours to go through all the videos once. The study guide for bio and AP did not help alot on the exam( I just took it on the 27th).
  19. I applied for spring 2016. just wondering if anyone else has applied? I am a little nervous as they really do not spell out what is a range of people typically accepted into the program. From my understanding it seems like it is mainly determined by your science and math GPS (chem, bio, a&p and math) and HESI score. You also receive some points from having relevant work experience, associates or bachelors degree, and having Patho completed. Also i know you need a minimum of 75% on each section of the HESI, but reading comp is broken into several subsection is it scored as a whole or individually? Well good luck to my fellow applicants and hopefully classmates in the spring
