My job, which paid for my school, paid for Hurst Live. While it was great, UWorld was superior. My program also had elsevier and the adaptive quizzing just isn’t up to the same level as UWorld.

Hey! I am a current Two-Step student. Just finished 2nd semester and starting 3rd soon. Which hospital do you work at? You'll need to reach out to the coordinator and get a pack that contains all the courses you need. HCA requires that you've completed A&P 1 & 2, Micro, English, Intro Psych and Developmental Psych. Anyone applying to the Two-Step program will need to meet minimum requirements for Collin. Two-Step only takes about 10 students each semester. So get to know your coordinator and let them know your achievements and who you are. As a Two-Step applicant, you won't be competing against all the students applying to Collin, just the Two-Step applicants, but we are a pretty smart bunch, so don't think it will be easy either. In my opinion, the PSB was easier than the Hesi. I never took the TEAs, so nothing to compare there. The PSB's hardest section was spelling. Just know general rules. If I were you, I'd go ahead and schedule a time to take the test just for practice. If you get a good score, then you're done. But you'll have time for a second test if you need a higher score.

Hey all! I'm going to get an iPad for notes for nursing school. I absorb more info when I hand write it so typing into laptop isn't going to be all that helpful. But tons of note books and papers will be messy and hard to find notes. So I'm going to get an iPad and Apple Pencil. Anyone use one for nursing school? What size do you have? 10.5 or 12.9? Do you like your size or wish you'd gone for the larger/smaller one?

Has anyone received info on finger printing? Blue card?

Bianca, I purchased the Mometrix book for the PSB. It's available on Amazon. It has some practice questions in it. I practiced at home and timed myself. The time is what will get you in this test. The book explains the different sections for you. Just be aware the spelling is really difficult, IMO. The book was not at all indicative of the actual exam in that area. Also, I had some physics questions in my science section, so make sure you review all the natural sciences stuff in the book.

My education coordinator through my job said we should go over the other stuff in our letter at orientation. Maybe that's part of reason we need laptops on Friday. Also, I'm betting we will get emails regarding finger printing after acceptance forms are turned in (today).

What pages did y'all receive in your acceptance letter? My job had be sign the one that needs to be turned in on 7/9 and give it back to them right then. I also got the computer requirements, health & physical form, and a form about reading requirements on the TX BON site. I think my coordinator from my job said the immunizations and other things will be uploaded into some system, which may be why we need laptops at orientation.

I'm not a nurse but.... Maybe a PRN job in a more challenging specialty? That way you could learn new things and get to know management and if jobs FT jobs become available you could talk with management about going FT?

I found out at work. I had to do an interview with bosses at my job, including CNO. After interview they brought me back in and gave me an envelope with Collin on it and my letter with form for intent to enroll.

I got in through my hospital's partnership with Collin. Found out today. Will see everyone on July 13.

I'm betting letters will go out this week. Orientation is July 13th and if you accept your admission offer, you have to let Collin know by July 9.

Please stop watching tv shows and looking at those nurses on there. I can tell you in my hospital, we have your typically attractive nurses and some that aren't quiet my type. I am overweight and have great skin genes as I have these wonderful skin tags everywhere and a lovely dark spot about the size of a nickle on my forehead. As for your small stature, I would just make sure you can physically do the job. I am 5'8" and >300lbs but I work out and am strong. I used to work with a small statured nurse in a rehab hospital and she couldn't lift the patients or anything, so I'd come home at the end of the day, if I was her aid, hurting and sore all over because I alone was picking up the 600lb CVA patients.

I'm trying for the HCA program and they already told HCA which of their candidates are good to go, academically. I still have to interview with someone at my hospital next week and get a thumbs up from her. I live in Denton so going down 380 4x/week is going to be brutal.

How long are you going to be out of town? Last year the acceptance letters went out around 6/21 and I think on a Friday. My understanding if you only have a week to accept your spot. May want to have to someone checking your mail and willing to do some work for you if you'll be out for longer than a week.

What were your friend's stats for her to already received a "no"? She must not have met all the requirements.

Ok... I've accepted the idea that I probably will need a rolling backpack for nursing school. I've been looking online but wondering what brands others have used and know to hold up for all those books? Also... any other items I should consider buying now before school starts?

I understand you "want it now and fast" attitude. That's been me for about 4 years now. I had a career and when I was laid off, I wanted it then. I went for my CNA license and that has been the best thing. The pay is better than retail and so are the benefits. Get your CNA and take your prerequisites. Get most of your BSN classes done. Try and get a job at an acute care hospital as a CNA while taking all the classes. If you can't get one in an acute setting right away, get one at a SNF or rehab for a year, then try for an acute again. That's what I've done. I now work at a hospital that is going to pay, 100% up front, for my ADN. They will pay tuition, books, shoes, uniforms. I also don't have to compete with all the other students applying to the best ADN program in the Dallas, TX, area. I met the requirements and I am in. I just have to commit to 2 years to my hospital when I'm done with the program. I wanted to rush it so many times and my wife said to slow down and take my time. And it has proven to be the best course for me.

I'm starting nursing school in August but I work as a tech for one of the Medical City hospitals in the area. Plenty of friends are in your position. My understanding about Cooks is that internships are difficult to get there. Most hospitals have 3-4 start periods for new interns. One of my friends that just got hired as an intern in Medical City said she will make $28/hr starting out and then go from there once she's finished her internship. Safety wise- stick to areas north of DFW. Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Little Elm, Denton, Keller, Grapevine. Those tend to be safest and have good hospital systems in them. Areas like Plano, Frisco, and McKinney will be the most expensive to live in as they're really growing. I live in little elm and I pay around $1100/ month for rent.

I have had this convo with my wife several times. She is a chemist and works in a toxicology lab as a supervisor and used to be an analyst with the same company. They get urine, blood, and saliva samples from doctor offices, courts, smaller labs, etc. I think the biggest issue with this is stigma, but that will dissipate in the coming years. The next big hurdle is testing. Currently, there are no tests that can measure the "current" level of marijuana in your system, like BAC. Blood tests show if you've consumed it all in the last few weeks, not in the past 24 hours or so, which makes it difficult to jobs to accurately determine how sober you are as a nurse.

I will be applying for Fall 2018 but I will be applying for HCA's Two-Step program so I don't think I will compete with everyone else applying. I have A's in A&P1&2 and Micro. I also have a previous Bachelor's and Master's degree. My PSB scores: VE-95% AR-91% NE-99% AA-99% SP-83% RC-93% INS-95% VAI-88%

This link doesn't actually have the point requirement. The only one I can find says PSB has possible 6 points but someone a few posts above says it's now possible 17.

What is the new point system? Maybe I'm blind but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the website.

I just found this thread. I am interested in the TWU weekend program. For those of you with previous Bachelor's degrees, did you take pre-reqs at TWU? I am currently taking my courses through Collin College but wondering if I should finish up my sciences, at least, at TWU. I still need micro, patho, chem plus some history classes.
