  1. I could seriously write a book. Had a parent who complained about everything we did. You dripped. You left food in the sink. You turned too many lights on. You didn't turn the night light off at the crack of dawn. You talked too loud.
  2. I'm confused if you are not allowed to do these things or if you are wondering why no one can do them correctly. I will never understand some of the people deemed safe in pdn. Even if you warn the agency nothing gets done.
  3. ouch! I have seen many incompetent nurses in my day too. Some of those are really bad! 😵
  4. (Can you imagine going to court explaining that? Your honor, on that day I was busy doing laundry and making lunch for the patient while watching the patient play. The trach fell out and the child ran and wouldn't come back. Judge: I thought you were the nurse? Nurse: I am the nurse. But I babysit, I'm the kids personal chef, and maid. Judge: So how can you be a nurse while you're doing all of those other tasks?) Right? Good one. I don't do those tasks, let me be clear. In my case the babysitting refers to the fact that the parents expect us to play with their child for the entire shift. Do they play with them? Nope!!!
  5. The agency is also adding to the guilt. They are buttering me up and begging me to stay.
  6. Ok. I can see why you would say that. I also think it's natural to become attached to a patient you've cared for for years. I will take this as another reason why it's good that I'm moving on.
  7. No wat that actually happened. Funny story, though!
  8. Ha! Wouldn't that be nice if they had a babysitter?! We are their babysitters!
  9. I have dealt with this a lot also. I worked with a child who was extremely abusive to the nurses. He was 5, so not a toddler although his mental age was. He would kick you hard! He would get in his walker, get an evil look and come charging for you to kick your shins! Mom didn't even want the nurses to say no. That wasn't fun.
  10. I just got a new hospital job. I am leaving a family I have been with for years. I am feeling so very, very guilty. The guilt is making me question my decision. í ½í¸¥
  11. Good one!!! 😂😂😂
  12. Thank you! I'm so nervous! I'm really hoping I'm making the right choice!!!
  13. I think the experience trumps that. I tried for years to get a hospital job with pdn experience. If the market is as bad as I've heard, you could use varied experience. Plus 2 years is a good amount of time at a job.
  14. Definitely try for a hospital since you're not moving immediately. It sounds like the job market is pretty tough in ca.
  15. Thanks! I got the job!!! Now I'm so nervous about being able to learn the job. It's peds and adults. Seems like majority adults. That will be different for me! I'm so ready to learn though!
  16. There are safe and unsafe environments just like any other area of nursing. There are plenty of small nurses in pdn. Your employer should know about the specific cases and you can ask about the environment.
  17. I agree with a suit or nice blouse. I would just prepare for typical behavioral questions. You should be plenty qualified!
  18. I bought the book to study for my peds certification! Thank you guys! Oh, and I had an interview today! It was a peds/ short stay unit. It seemed to go well. I have my fingers crossed.
  19. Do not feel bad. It's part of life. You don't need to tell them unless you need accommodations. Not their business.
  20. I think it's good that he said thanks for a good interview. It's hard when it's a general interview because you might have to wait longer. Keep us updated! Good luck!
  21. Awesome!!! Good luck! Google nursing phone interview questions to be ready!
  22. Once again, I understand exactly how you feel. I go through periods of depression because I feel like I'm not good enough. Especially when co workers who are not good people get the jobs I want or I hear about another new grad who got the job. My current job appreciates me and my hours are good for the most part. Then I feel guilty for not being happy. I Haven't learned anything for far too long though! Good luck to you too!!!
  23. I'm thinking about it just to get in, but I honestly think I would hate it. My passion is for peds. I've always heard it's better to stay with kids but it is not working for me so far.
  24. The reason I want to take a computer charting class is that they bring it up at every interview. I don't understand why they make such a big deal about it. I'm pretty computer literate and it doesn't intimidate me. New question to all: Should I try to get a job on an adult med surg floor or just keep sticking it out hoping someone will eventually hire me?
