  1. Did you work while attending??
  2. What school are you at?? I had to take an 'entrance exam' to get into my bridge program even though I have been working. It was basically on Fundamentals and Transitions...it was just like taking the NCLEX tho..pretty challenging I must say!!
  3. Agreed. Best lesson I ever learned that was not taught in nursing school. I get picked on by other nurses because I chart and document so much but I will tell you this, I have had to go head to head with the State of MI as well as surveyors and my documentation has always held up where as other nurses are not so fortunate because they did not heed the warning CYA!!!
  4. I am at Baker College and we have to maintain a B average. When I went to OCC for my LPN it was a C. I would think those who are upset are obviously those who want to skate by and not put much effort into it which when they get out and licensed (if they make it that far) will have a harder time transitioning from student to nurse. Also, when 'fighting' the school caution should always be taken because it can back fire on you. For instance, we had an issue with an instructor and when we fought it we ALL had to retake the class and some of us actually passed with a 4.0 but it didn't matter.
  5. I have been in similar situations and have on several occasions taken a break in the courtyard of the facility with a couple of my high risk residents. I would pull my paper charting and the my two lil ladies who could not seem to keep themselves off the floor out there with me and kill about 4 birds with one stone. Leadership had a HUGE issue with it but I cleared it up with this: If you don't want to come in here and help me reduce the liability that will fall on my license you are just going to have to deal with it or fire me.
  6. OH NO!!! That really sucks...I am so sorry! They are extremely disorganized over there...I think they think that communication is overrated!! So sorry again....
  7. I am in!!! Who else got in??? Anybody else on board with starting a fb page???
  8. Hey hopesgramcracker I am so glad you got in!!! Guess I will see you on the 12th! That office was so disorganized, I hope it gets better as the program goes along!! Super excited to start!!!!
  9. Thanks!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! I know you feel better!!!!
  10. Which email did it go to?? your regular or your baker???
  11. I started my LPN program in January and was pregnant with our first who was born the week before my first clinicals started. I had 6 weeks left at that point, I had the option to start again in the fall but I pushed through driving my 2 week old baby to a very loved and trusted friend of the family and cried the whole way to the hospital and back. I got pregnant with our second child during my OB rotation and was 6 months pregnant with her when I graduated. I'm not gonna lie, it sucked!!!
  12. I wonder if they have any idea how frustrating this wait is......
  13. I am LPN to RN and since they changed everything, pharm doesn't count for me anymore which really kind of made me mad considering I already had it at OCC on top of taking 3 other classes....UGH! So if I wanted to figger it out I would add my gpa for the science classes twice to get my average right.....
  14. We were done the 26th too but grades didn't have to be posted until yesterday. My packet stated there would be an email after grades were posted, followed by an official letter the first week of September. I'm dying here!!!
  15. What about the double weighted GPA courses....i.e. A&P, patho, holistics...
  16. UGH!! I am at Auburn Hills. They said they would send emails after grades posted....I am just not coping well with the uncertainty. I am pretty confident but you never with Baker!!!!
  17. Has anyone out there received acceptance via email into Baker's nursing program?? If so how long after grades posted did you recieve it?? I am totally freaking out here! Trying to make job move decisions, set up care for my kids, and totally working on an ulcer!!!
  18. See!! I feel weird too, but like nerdtonurse was saying, you really have to take it on a patient by patient basis. If you haven't already learned this, DOCUMENT DOCUMENT DOCUMENT!!!! Sometimes patients get these crazy ideas in their head and as long as you have the documentation to back yourself up, you are good!! I learned the CYA lesson the very hard way!!!
  19. Was it scheduled or PRN?? A patient with a scheduled pain med should be woken up to administer, but if it is a PRN pain med and you assessed her as being comfortable, i.e. sleeping , then I would say you did your best. True, just because a patient is sleeping doesn't mean they are NOT in pain. In short, for a PRN pain med NO I would not wake a sleeping patient. For a SCHEDULED pain med, I would. Don't worry about feeling betrayed...it comes with the job. Don't feel bad about it, nursing judgment takes time to develop. You are a new nurse so you have to give yourself room for error, not that I think this was an error in any way. You have to be able to prioritize and balance your patient load, which also takes time to develop!! Keep your head up opossum!!
  20. BAAHHHAAA!!!!! I prefer Vitamin Bud Lite! I don't know, b/c I never had this problem. I never gave a moments thought to a patent after I left their room, lol. I'd suggest exercise or meditation. Really?? You have never had one situation or case that has stuck with you?? I am not sure if I am in awe or I feel sorry for you?
  21. I absolutely agree!!! I have real issues with giving up control but I had to give up a lot of stuff to my husband. I have a pretty good system for myself that I have worked out where I do as much as I can within that first week of class once I get my syllabus, i.e. reading, chapter questions, papers, care plans, etc. That way I can still have some semblance of a life while going through school. I think the hardest part is doing it now with kids vs before having no kids. Mine are 6 and 5 and had a super hard time adjusting to me going back, of course I was taking 16 cr hours and working full time so the program in and of itself won't be THAT bad, but there are still many sacrifices to be made......
  22. BRUTAL!! Just kidding!! I would be comparable to your 5 classes and working two jobs. When I did my LPN, I did it pregnant (started preggers, delivered, ended preggers, took NCLEX preggers) and I worked full time. Albeit, I worked at home as a medical transcriptionist but I did work which they do not recommend but I didn't have a choice. This time around, I JUST finished 4 prereqs for the LPN to RN program, I plan on only working about 30 hours a week. The biggest thing you will need is a HUGE support system to help with the kids and probably some meds to deal with the guilt you will feel!! :redbeathe You just have to be dedicated and lean on anyone you can because it is hard. I don't know anyone who thought nursing school was a breeze and if they did, I am sure they did not get out of it what they were supposed to. The good news is, is doesn't last forever and at the end you are a nurse!! I love being a nurse and certain it was what I was supposed to do with this life!! Good luck to you!!!
  23. and i am so ready for them!!!
  24. Not in the great State of Michigan....if you are being surveyed and they observe pre poured medications, you will most likely get an immediate jeopardy citation and you as the nurse can pretty much kiss your current job good bye. Do you not have a med cart? What do you mean med room?? Don't you stock your cart with you what you need prior to starting med pass??
  25. See now that is a horse of a different color all together!! You SHOULD NOT be signing 2 p meds at 8a!! When I was a QA nurse at a SNF facility I used to deal with this all the time. My stance to the nurses was this: It is better to not sign the meds at all then to sign them hours ahead of administration. I used the MAR as a guide line for what I have given or given...what if you have an emergency and flip open your MAR at 200 PM and your meds signed already, one might say to themselves Oh yeah I already did that when in fact..you did not.
