Please excuse the nature of this question: upcoming tests
Hi Nurses, I have been asked to do a few tests by my doctor: once includes a endoscopy, the other ultrasound guided aspiration, ct scan of lungs and abdomen, and if not conclusive, laparoscopic biopsy. Can you'll please tell me for which one of these will l I lose my privacy/dignity. Can I wear my underwear during these tests ? I have never been cut, so kind of nervous about this and also of the needles, anesthesia etc. I didn't feel comfortable asking the doctor the above questions. Thanks, Mb

"What to Expect When You're a Patient"
Does that mean my post in this thread is not valid?
-
Do patients know a "good nurse"?
Its a combination of both Politeness and Proficiency. After all, even though the patient returns to normalcy, he will remember the pleasant or the unpleasant experiences.

Do patients know a "good nurse"?
What are the other reasons for some being impolite?

Do patients know a "good nurse"?
OP,Yes, of course. Being polite yet professional is what I call good. While patients should certainly not expect hotel like service in a hospital, they can expect to be treated kindly and with respect. Yes, as patients we're worried about our health and so we may have questions to ask(just a few), it could be the case that you just dealt with an unpleasant patient, and hence were angry and as a result the next patient gets it and this is unfair. Again, its not all, but some.

"What to Expect When You're a Patient"
I agree with the last part of your post. Was just voicing a concern.

"What to Expect When You're a Patient"
In that case, how does a manager distinguish between a genuine and not so genuine complaint ?

"What to Expect When You're a Patient"
The important thing is to be polite and not snub the patient or their family. Yes, you are a professional and worked hard to pass exams. Patients families are anxious when their dear ones are in hospital. Trust me when I say this. Again, it's only some nurses that are rude. As a result of the snub the patients never ask for more information and feel that they're being treated unfairly. Nurses are healers of the mind, body and soul.

Nurses have an Attitude Problem
Lol. We have all had hard professors and this is a post I would ignore.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
A few observations from all the replies I received. 1)Many people tend to disagree with my post, all one has to do is Google to get a neutral view. 2)Sometimes look at it from the other mans shoes too, don't just dismiss it as silly or 'sympathy seeking'. Politeness is not equal to Sympathy seeking 3)All want to be spoken to with basic respect and politeness, I would never be impolite because I would get it back right away, be it anyone. Luke 6:31 Treat others the same way you want to be treated. 4)May be the ER staff was indeed busy that night, but a better choice of words was all that was needed, I went to him only twice. I am no cranky patient, I was very civil that day. 5)I never said all nurses were rude, all I said that all nurses I met were rude, that's why the title of the thread was 'some' 6)I have been very civil throughout this argument and have constantly ignored the many brash/belittling comments I have received. I don't see anyone acknowledge my post and the negative responses are sure to keep coming. Hence it would be great if the thread is closed.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
Firstly I never ask anything you mentioned above, secondly someone not talking to me is not the only reason for me to complaint of rudeness. I was just citing a few instances. Its not possible to list everything related to rudeness here, sometimes its so subtle. *My last post*

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
So much of bashing just for raising a issue I thought was valid. Anyway, I am done. Next time I guess its best to talk to the Manager or be patient as you say. And for all who said I wanted sympathy, I meant in simple terms that being rude is unsympathetic/heartless. In other words be polite and politeness doesn't mean being sympathetic. I don't know what goes on in an ER as much as you guys do but I do know it now. I cant list each and every instance of rudeness, but I know I was very polite. Good Night .

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
I did not know about these things and wonder if I could even think especially with that pain. But I am coming to know things I wouldn't know had I not posted here. My ankles still remain swollen despite being cured.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
I'd rather rephrase that as 'hop'.Limping to another ER in itself ain't polite. That was one of the worst pains I had orthopedically. And the symptoms of a sprain and fracture are quite similar.I am not used to this, hence went to the ER. Guys, I have had enough. I have asked a lot of people and many agree that they too have had rude experiences. Now I wanted to ask nurses and that's why I posted it here. Thank you.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
These are different instances. This is crazy, you're linking different posts. In the ER it was the male nurse who was rude to me. Not just one instance that makes me say rude.Re read if possible.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
Thanks, I now understand. Thank you for enlightening me. You did understand my post quite well.
-
Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
May be I need to be more understanding then. Nursing is a tough job, there is no doubt about it, but sickness can cause patients to be restless and anxious. Thanks all. Hope to stay healthy all my life.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
Firstly, please don't be mean and keep calling it troll troll. Next time I should talk to the Manager instead of writing on the forum, its one sided here. Anyway, thanks all for the replies.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
I am no expert and wouldn't know about whats urgent and not. I was in pain not knowing if it was even a fracture. Luckily enough, been healthy most my life.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
Yes, these things were in the ER. He never liked me following up with him as to when I will be treated. There were around 8-10 people. I don't know about their issues, but I am in pain and he was heartless. Do I have to limp and leave to another ER?
-
Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
Look at the thread, it says 'some'. Can you imagine being in pain with a sprained ankle and having to wait for 3-4 hours before being treated? The Male nurse told me that its common. He told me wait or leave, when I told him its taking too long.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
Well that's crap. I just wanted an opinion about my experiences, that was it. The Healthcare industry is rude.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
My Nana was a nurse and was loved by all her residents.

Why do some nurses come across to be rude?
I agree on your point there. Don't provide sympathy, but don't be rude. When you're sympathetic about a patient you wont be rude, so in other words you're not sympathetic. That's what I meant. There are numerous examples, and hence whenever I look at a hospital, I just turn my head around. I pray to be healthy and not a hospital visitor any time. Healthcare rudeness has become a stereotype actually, a lot of people tell me, nothing new in the rudeness thing, it was always there and will continue to be.
