  1. p.s. take the hospital job, you will be more knowledgable and it will help you eventually if you get an RN degree. And before you know it, you will be able to request a day position :)
  2. hello, make sure the hospital gives you adequate training before you start, the more experience you get as an LPN the more opportunities will come your way. I was in your position not to long ago and i just braced my self for the first year and went to being over worked (at an SNF) to having a very good job at a pharmaceutical company. You will do fine, you just have to have patience for the first year hope this helped
  3. Plasma or Blood donation centers- ull get to practice lots of "sticks" and adverse events :)
  4. 8-10 seems like allot, I would make sure there is a specific doctors order for that much o2!
  5. wow, good job!
  6. i think that you have several options in this case. 1. look at the policy of your facility, if nothing there about smoking then... 2. Call your boss, or the DNS or administrator and tell them you will not do this because you dont have time for this, if they want to hire a 1 on 1 sitter - they can. let them know this is not a Skilled Nursing Facility and even there they dont no 1 on 1's unless someone is really "off the wall" 3. Let the patient know- if needed call her out. Say that your sole job is to look after her health, smoking is bad for her and let her know that: a. if she wants to "get out of here" then by all means she can call the daughter and let her know but you cant leave her outside by her self b. let here know that she is not the only one , you have others to take care of, as long as the smoke times are reasonable you can "try" to accommodate her smoking trips 4. Let the daughter know - i doubt she will do anything tho hope this helps :) stay strong
  7. well its a legit question, ive been to many interviews and this question comes up allot! they basically want to know if you can baby-sit CNA's and other staff- because when the push come to shove - you have a code or a very bussy / stressful day- you want to make sure the CNA's are on the same page as you are. just let them know if you- suppose in school would gather people together for a group study, or in a previous job were you given the "boss powers" and were you a good leader. Generally as a charge nurse you have to make sure that there are no miscommunications so that everything runs smoothly during your shift so let them know you are a great communicator good luck job hunting :) go to indeed, glass door and other websites if you cant find one...
  8. try a Plasma or blood donation centers, RED CROSS, CSL, BIOMAT and others, im currently switching from long term care to a plasma center, and i have to say its very different- you get to work with more young people and once you leave work you dont have that feeling of: "shoot maybe i forgot to do something or a treatment"... its a whole different world out there... and at a blood donation place- people come out of their own will so naturally they are "willing to donate" so they will be more happy :) hope this helps
  9. id just keep saying "stay with me" they are almost here...
  10. if i was you, i would go back to your school and tell them you didnt pass and that you need more help with the prep for your second time. In general schools are more then willing to provide you with learning materials and more practice tests so that you will be ready for sure, beyond that you could buy another book and do more practice tests... remember that it counts against the school as well, not only against you if you dont pass points to remember- DO NOT give up! - its never "none of the above" - its never "all of the above" - memorize your lab values - memorize conditions like - for example Addison and etc - know how to preform tasks like NG tube insertion, cath, etc - know common medications and most of the things about them (apap, coumadin, gabapentin, prilosec) * every nclex is different, but in general try to study the conditions and tie them in together, know cause, effect, what they could lead to ... and last but not least know how to ignore the "fluff" and ELIMINATE answers so that you could at-least have a 50/50% of getting the question right and when in doubt choose "c"- jk this dose not work :)
  11. in oregon you ideally need a second LPN to confirm death, however in cases where a second one is not available you can determine death by your self- call family, MD for a "release of body" order and then to hospice if they have one, hope this helps LPN can always determine death, unless its a specific company policy that states otherwise
  12. 21/hr in oregon - new grad, 22-23 with 1 year of expirence
  13. i have 2 jobs as well, 20 hrs at a SNF, and 40+ hrs at a plasma center- per week, it gets frustrating but you gotta make a routine- and do lots of fun stuff off of work
