Took NCLEX PN Aug. 30th.....85 quest.
Hi again... I was thinking that it would be good for us cali people if we could all post what day we took the test, how many questions, how you felt, and a lil about what was on the test like some of the above people have. Remember you can't post actual questions!!! I took my test in oakland ca on august 29th 2008. I had 85 qeustions total; about 10 sata, 2 with pt chart for exhibit, many many infection control and isolation, only one math question and one delegation question. I too left the testing center totally numb and wondering what on earth had just happened. The test was sooo weird that it could have easily been one of those dreams that you have before nclex when you are nervous. Oh ya and also try to post when you get your results and if you passed (if you are comfortable). I think it's very supportive for all of us to know that we are not alone. Also one more very important thing...... IF YOU HAPPEN TO CALL THE BOARD PLEASE PLEASE POST WHAT THEY TELL YOU, SO THAT WE CAN ALL CHECK HERE BEFORE CALLING!!!! If we all call then the people working there processing our results have to spend more and more time talking to us on the phone saying the same thing over and over and that takes time away from them working on the paperwork!!!! One more thing.... if anyone understands the whole nclex grading and level thing and can explain it simply, I would love to hear it. I read the thing that they have about it on the ncsbn site and I was totally confused. I have heard sooo many people say soo many things about how the test works..... it's just nuts. Good luck to those of you who are waiting and I can't wait to hear that you all passed!!! Congrats to all of you who have already passed and thank you to everyone for sharing your experiences. Jessica :yeah:

Took NCLEX PN Aug. 30th.....85 quest.
I am with you!!! I just took the nclex pn on fri august 29th. I also live in ca and will not get results for at least 3 weeks.... though the board said that they are averaging closer to 5 weeks right now. my test shut off at 85. i left the test center in a daze.... I was thinking.... What on earth was that??? I seriously think that there was like one question that I was sure of my answer... like 15 or 20 sata.... only 1 math...tons of meds i had never even heard of...questions were really really vague and seemed to be totally up for interpretation, as far as what the question was asking or what one of the answers actually meant!!!! I reviewed with saunders and kaplan and eri.... did 5 mock exams in order to pass school and still this test was just totally nuts!!! Anyways lets all hope that ca bon hurries up with our results!!!! I swear if i hear one more person complianing about having to wait 2 days or even 10 days for results!!! ugh i would die to only have to wait 10 days...... HANG IN THERE GUYS!!!! BE SURE AND POST YOUR RESULTS WHEN YOU GET THEM!!!

Are you scared of a dead person?
I think that most people are scared of things like dead people at first.... But once you get used to dead people and realize that it's just a body, you will see it differently. It is sad when people die, but once you feel what it feels like to help someone die with dignity or just hold their hand when they don't have anyone else there you will get over it. I had the same fear of dead people getting up and grabbing me a couple years ago, but now I can even do post mortem care by myself.....I was even able to accompany my own grandfather when he died and that is the greatest honor. Sooo please please if you really want to be a nurse don't let this fear get in your way!!! Also remember fear usually comes when you don't understand something and once you learn more about death and the process and see a death, I really think you will understand better and have less fear..... goood luck!! Just my Jessica

Help for parents that experiece neonatal death?
Thank you to everyone for the responses!! I was thinking that mom was very likely to have been more than 20 weeks along for the reasons that were mentioned. EMS did haul hiney but they were not called till after baby was fully delivered hance the 15 mins, baby was not intibated but it was lights and sirens code 3. And his family feels the sam as nursecriss about him having another child and that helping. I too agree but we are not at that point.

Help for parents that experiece neonatal death?
I do not think that mom wouold be willing, but dad is on the birth certificate does that give him any rights to the paperwork? Mom has been also deeply affected by this and has severe mental issues now and is unable to be involved..

Help for parents that experiece neonatal death?
Also one more thing sorry agian.... What can I do to help him with this?? His ex wife took from him the baby's ashes and all the pictures and momento from the baby's short life... Do you think that getting to the bottom of things may help bring closure or hurt the situation by digging it up?? He has not dealt with this yet I just don't know how to help... I have suggested counceling which he will start when he comes home as he is out of town for work... Thank you alll sooo much!!!

Help for parents that experiece neonatal death?
Yes I will ask him..... He is traumatized by the situation and I think that he would have areally hard time going back over the situation... 4 years later he can't talk about it without crying... Does kaiser have to give him the records in a certian amount of time, does mom have to sign for them and can they be taken from kaiser by law must they be reviewed there?? Sorry for all the questions I just can't stop thinking about it... Cause like you said something is not right!!!

Help for parents that experiece neonatal death?
I was wonding what is done in yuor hospital for parents who lose their babies. Like support groups, pictures, hand and foot prints ect. And do you let the parents hold and bond with baby before and after death?? What has been yuor experience in this situation?? Also at what gestational age would you typically say that a baby can be saved ( I realize all cases are different) But just in general.. I would love to hear the practice of yuor hospital in this situations and your personal stories!! I am dating a guy who's ex wife had a baby at home in her bathroom at 20 weeks (not sure if measured from LMP).. Anyways baby was delivered and mom and baby were at hospital within 15 mins by EMS (kaiser hospital)... Cord was cut at hospital and baby was breathing... Baby was 3.5 lbls and skin was not transparent... Hospital staff did nothing but cutt the cord and tell parents that baby would not make it.... parents were in a panic and did not know what to believe or what to do they were in shocka nd delerium....No effort was made to care for or save baby and no reason was discussed with parents!!! Baby died a little over 3 hours later in dad's arms she was never even put on a monitor!!!! I was wondering what your thoughts are on this as I am not an experienced nurse nor an OB nurse.... in addition to this story mom had a 3 year old healthy son at the time ( 4 yrs ago ) but was diagnosed with incompetent cervix.... Mom was never treated for this in any way and was not on bed rest at all!!! Looking forward to your advice.. Thanks in advance!!

Partial Birth Abortions--NOT an abortion debate
OK Let me say it agian...... IF ONE IS GOING TO HAVE SEX WHICH COULD GET HER PREGNANT NO MATTER WHAT, THEN THEY NEED TO BE READY TO DEAL WITH ANYTHING THAT MAY BE A RESULT..... PREGNANCY, DISABLED CHILD, C/S, MATERNAL DEATH, ANYTHING!!! If you are mature enough to have sex or you want to be pregnant and get pregnant, you need to be responsibe and deal with what may come and if you can't THEN DON"T HAVE SEX OR GET PREGNANT.... And as far as the people who will say well you have never been in the situation.... Guess what I have and I have a 3 yr old boy that takes every ounce of my energy to care for as a single mom..... And when I was told his diagnosis I was appalled by the thought of killing him cause he wasn't perfect!!! Killing a child to take the easy way out is unacceptable to me!!! Oh and one more thing my brother was said to have DS when my mom had his Amnio at 20 weeks, my mom did not decide to abort him.... today he is 18 years old and has NO Downs!!!! What if she had killed him??

Partial Birth Abortions--NOT an abortion debate
Ya dutchgirl i totally agree... I think it's crazy that if the baby was delivered a couple inches more then sticking scissors in the back of his head would be murder. I have seen many babies die peacfully in thier mother's arms in NICU. And for the mothers who are worried about abdominal surgery.... UMM hello this is something you need to think about before you get yourself pregnant. As a mom before and after the baby is born, yuor first concern should be BABY not Mother!!!! And one other thought I know that for other abortions that are not D&X I believe it is D&E that the uterus is injected with digoxin to kill baby before delivery.... Not that I agree with this, but why is this not an option it seems more humane for people who must choose this type of abortion??

Input??
Not perfect. There a about 5 nursing students in my class that cannot form a complete sentence and that cannot make any sense in english. I would have a hard time letting some one like that take care of me.
-
Input??
I was wondering if you as a nurse feel that one should be able to speak fluent english and be able to form a complete sentance in order to be a nurse here in the US. This is not meant to offend anyone I just wanted to see if anyone has an opinion or has had experience with this sort of problem.

LPN job despriptions
I was just wondering about what LPNs are allowed to do in hospice in CA. I was under the impression that LPNs could not do anything related to a PCA pump in Ca or push IV meds. Can anyone clarify what LPNs in Ca can do relating to IVs, PCA pumps, vent patients, ng tubes ect. Thanks

I would like to see more answers I am on my path to becoming a pediatric CNS and I would really like to hear more about what each specialty CNS does and if you work in a hospital or for a practice and what differs between the different roles depending on where you work. Thanks in advance.

My CRNA friends do illegal drugs
I was glad to see that I am not the only one that has experienced high level medical professionals abusing drugs. If you see my post medical professionals abusing drugs, you can read what happened to me. I was really upset when so many people wrote back saying that I must have been lying. I would never make up something such as this. This happenes a lot and while I think that my situation was a bit worse than yours, I did report them by writing an anonymous letter to the hospital admin. Good Luck!!!!!

Feeling Upset Please Help
Thank you everyone! I am feeling better now. I wish that CA did not have such strict limitations for LVNs. Thanks Agian I'll keep you posted.

Feeling Upset Please Help
Thank you. I live in CA and the this was the cheapest LPN program I could find. Others were over 30 grand. These are private schools cause that is the onky way that you can get into a program that won't take you a life time. I am going to go to a private nursing school agian to get my BSN. Thank you agian

Feeling Upset Please Help
I am an LVN student planning to transfer to a BSN program after I finish. I am a little upset cause I feel like I am kinda waisting my money. Whta exactly do LVNs do that is so different from what techs do. My books have such elemetary subject matter that I feel like I already know most of it before even going into it. I really want to be very involved in patient care and it seems like I am paying 23 grand to go to school for 18 months and then come out knowing how to give a few meds. I hope that I am very wrong. Some one please enlighten me.

LVNs and IV Therapy
I was wondering if the LVNs and LVN students out there learned and practiced starting IVs, pushing IV meds, flushing IVs, blood transfusions or administering narcotics in school. Also what if any of these skills are LVNs permitted to do in your state CA particularly. Are you allowed to practice things in school that you may not be able to do as an LVN in your state and if you are an LVN can you do these things if an RN delagates them to you. What if you have a patient who needes one of these things? Thanks for youe help.

NP invisibility
That makes me sad to hear. I am just a nursing student, but I have great respect for the NPs that I have worked with or have helped me in school or that have taken care of me. I have always recieved better care from NPs verses an MD. In my experience Nps spend more time with you and will take the time to find out what is really going on. They seem to be smart and humble and better at creating a good relationship with the patient. And between the 2 years or pre reqes, 4 years of nursing school, 2 years of nursing before you can get into NP school and the 2 year NP program you really have very close to the education that the doctors have as well as a more well rounded experience. Kudos to you for standing up for your self. You are the kind I look up to and strive to be like. Good Luck!!

Medical Professionals Abusing Drugs
I found out later that that's what was going on at first I was thinkin that they had a few drinks.

Medical Professionals Abusing Drugs
I agree with the last poster if I had known what was going to go on I would not have been there and they didn't bring out the drugs for a while after we got there and had a couple drinks. I would have never never ever guessed that I would have been in that situation that night at a get together of medical professionals. I will be much more careful from now on.
