I work in urgent care solo and see anywhere from 40-100 pts in a 12 hour shift. It sucks some days but I love my job and I strive to provide excellent care.

I am an FNP in urgent care. We see two years up to death. I have been with this practice two years as a new NP. acuity ranges from asymptomatic covid testing to respiratory failure with hypoxia. with the local ERs being on total diversion we have been seeing an increase in acuity levels big time. today I was the solo provider and discharged a total of 103 patients. This included a critical high glucose with in house lab and treatment. A complicated abdominal wall abscess. Facial laceration. Febrile pediatric patients. Fractures. Lyme disease. Multiple pts with > 2 problems. UTIs. Chest pain. Covid pneumonia. And everything in between. Some of these pts are elderly or with multiple comorbids. But yes I still assess history before anything else. is it safe? No. Are the patients getting the best care, probably not. Am I doing everything in my power to make the patient visit a pleasant experience with most expectations met? Yes. man I being paid fairly by my employer? Most definitely not. I would love to see 20-50 pts a day ! ????

Depending on your previous experience as a nurse and your level of training. I for one work in urgent care as a solo provider most days. Typical day. Volume is 50-60 plus given the recent covid surge. Acuity ranges from the common cold (more rare these days) to acute MI. Anaphylaxis. Stroke. Chest pain with suspected MI. Respiratory failure. GI bleeds. Hypertensive emergency. Covid pneumonia. Some very high acuity levels walking in the door at any given time and you are IT! Calling the shots in a split second. Knowing what drugs to give in emergencies and what not to give. Ability to look at a 12 lead ekg and pick up subtle clues on interpretation that could mean life or death without intervention. long gone are the days of mild sore throat sneezes and sniffles clogging up urgent cares. Patients no longer go to the doctor or specialist and they expect you to diagnose a problem they ve had for 30 years. So yes you will be basically running a mini Er so be prepared for all ages and types of acuity. Good luck! Just know it ain’t no pick nick!

I make significantly more than that as a new NP south of Atlanta. I would def ask for at least 90,000 if not 100,000$ yearly. Don’t short yourself. Trust me. You will earn every penny of that.

Yes. I graduated this May and I've passed my boards with a very high score and I'm already licensed and working. I had job offer for cardiology, ER, internal medicine and urgent care. I chose urgent care. Love it! And my education at CSU definitely helped me in practice.

Hellonew students! I will graduate CSU next semester. It has been an awesome journey. I have learned more about advanced practice nursing than I could ever have thought possible with CSU's cirriculum. Be sure to use your resources (textbooks, assignments, and review books) and learn everything you can because time flys when you are working and in school. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask me. Also, put your education first, even if you have to drop down hours at work. The second year I went part time (2 twelve hour days a week) and now near the end I'm prn (about four days a month). Most of my days are spent studying and reviewing everything I've learned these past two years. It's a lot of info to retain so repetition is the key with all of the content. The assignments are very doable, relevant, and will help you learn the content. To get a head start on things I would recommend ordering the Fitzgerald or Leik review book to study before classes start, that way you will have a huge advantage when classes start. I also ordered text books a few weeks or months before classes started to begin learning the information. I am so thankful for this program, and the cost can't be beat. Good luck!

Not that I know of. I'm about to graduate this spring and have not heard of any accreditation issues. I have learned so much in this program but you have to push yourself to actually study and learn the content.

Well I'm finishing this semester this week and will graduate in spring. I just hope there will be decent opportunities for me after all of this money, time studying, and sacrifices.

Well said! Thankfully there are more options than Emory in my neck of the woods (semi rural suburban area).

I have been a nurse for 20 years and have felt fairly compensated for the work I do. This coming spring I will graduate from CSU in Georgia with an FNP degree. Being the curious one that I am, I started googling NP jobs on indeed.com yesterday. It appears the pay listed for Emory University NP jobs is 72,000 to 105,000. The lower half almost matches my RN pay to the T. Seeing how the NP is billed almost exactly the same as an MD with services provided, it doesn't make much sense to start off NPs at such a low figure. Just had to rant. Guess with the churning out of NPs from diploma mills the pay will drop even lower

You will be well prepared for boards. It is a self study program with assignments. Readings. Power points. Video lectures. Disussion posts and proctored exams. It has been a totally wonderful experience to say the least.

I took it in 2017. I thought it was awesome. Not too terribly hard.(MODERATOR EDIT OF NAME) taught my class. She was awesome. Kind. Empathetic. Very down to earth.

I only have two semesters left. Tons of content to learn but I'm soaking it all in. Couldn't be happier with a program I'm sure.

I started CSU's FNP program like in January 2017. So I am more than halfway done. I'll graduate this spring. The cost is dirt cheap (18000) for the full program. The content is great. Informative books, readings, and assignments. The clinical rotations are awesome. I am just so thankful that I was accepted. My last two semesters are coming up and I am just so ready to be done! P.s. There are 25 students in my January early start class. This enables us to knock out six classes before the fall and graduate early :)))))

If you guys want to talk to current students I have created a Facebook page titled Columbus state university FNP 2017. I started in January and love the program. I work full time with no issues at all. I am taking pharmacology and underpinnings and on this site I have created and posted quizlets for our pharmacology class. That way you can see what our studies and exams and quizzes entail. I have yet to fail anything and have made wonderful grades while working full time. Proud to be a CSU student.
