  1. Professionals do think about themselves too. You have to do whats best for you. I also just accepted a job and I am still looking and hoping for better. You always want the best. Any NP out there that does house call. (visiting patients in their home). I am offered a job but really thinking about it. The MD does the initial visit and I would do the follow-ups. Do you feel all alone out there. Is it really difficult. I would be happy with any information one can give me. I have home care experience, so I know about going into the homes.
  2. I get paid per visit, however I choose to get paid this way. When visits are available it's good. Right now it's slow and I cant depend on a pay check. Now I am thinking of applying to Bayada. I don't know anything about them but I hear they do 8 and 12 hours shift. Something new for me but I am thinking about it.
  3. Please, tell me about Winthrop, I am thinking of applying. What's the starting, Per Diem rate as well. Is it a nice place to work. Thanks anyone
  4. VivaRN, Your plan sounds great. You have enough days for clinicals. Presently I am working 4 long days to have 2 days for clinicals. What state is this
  5. greenland, your age does not matter. With your medical background you will do well. I am 55 with over 30 years of nursing experience and started my NP program only the Summer of 2007 looking to graduate Spring 2010 and I am not thinking about my age. I am thinking of how I will be able to help the sick. My greatest task right now is to find a preceptor, that is a tough one but nothing (except sickness) will stop me from reaching my goal.
  6. I would take this. As a new grad this is great money and you will have great satisfaction. I started home care 16 yrs. ago and I had to have 1 yr med. surg. experience. I hope you took it.
  7. Riverhopper, your classmate gave you the wrong information. Things are not so easy as she say.
  8. I am thinking of relocating to Nevada in the furture to get out of the cold. I am presently in NY. Starting salary in NYC is between 60-65,000/yr. Decent house in a decent community 500,000-700,000. Looking for information in towns and hospital in and near Las Vegas. Any one care to give the names of decent towns and hospital. Thanks
  9. Hi greenland, My credits are paid for by my employer, $5000/yr. Education is so expensive so I am happy for this.
  10. SteveRN21, This is my first clinical and I know the feelings. I am thinking like a nurse and need to force myself to think like an NP, but I think we will get it soon. Just think positive.
  11. I would not use the word better. The big word is ''flexibility'' especially if you are not working in a CHHA. Long-term has more flexibility. I have been in home care for 16 yrs. Love it for the flexibility but not for the paper work.
  12. good luck on working towards your RN. we dont have enough time to to hang and monitor iv, administer meds, teach patients, assess clinical status and pick up doctor orders much more to give a bath. As a student you can move a mountain because you are standing on the outside looking in.
