  1. I am trying to get some experience in CVICU and this teaching hospital has positions opened in Vascular ICU, I never heard of it and I googled it without much success, is it the same as CVICU/CTICU?
  2. Many thanx to you all. This is why I luv this forum. Much appreciated.
  3. Thank you for the advice, do you know though if it is possible to go from HH to MedSurg or other specialties, will my experience in HH be seen as an asset or a liability. From your comments it looks like that MedSurg should be the obvious choice for a new grad but I was wondering if, as an alternative, I could go into HH now and still be employable later in hospitals. Many thanks.
  4. I am a new grad and an agency is willing to train me but is a background in HH valuable in the broader job market? Can I switch from HH to a hospital job (medsurg or other specialties) if I have no prior exp working in hospitals? I like HH but I don't want to limit my long term perspectives. I have also had offers from Hosp but I'd rather go with HH however I also want to be as versatile and as marketable as possible. Your advices would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  5. I ve been told by a classmate that BSN grads in NY don't have to take the LPN exam in order to get the license, this could help me financially until I pass the nclex.
  6. I wanted to pm you with my contact info but I don't see the feature, see if u can do the same.
  7. Hello everyone, I live in NJ and I am about to graduate from a BSN program. I really want to be my own boss and I am thinking of opening a training center for LPNs and CNAs where I would teach with the possibility of expanding later to other healthcare professions, including RNs one day. Can someone please guide me? I am a bit disoriented, there seems to be an info blackout on the steps required to open this type of school. Many thanx.
  8. Thank you SteveRN and Locaritus. You ve been really helpful. Much appreciated.
  9. SteveRN: I know that there is only one NCLEX, it is the endorsement process that's worrying me. How long did it take to endorse your license in NY and do u believe, as LORICATUS mentioned ,that the process in NJ is more cumbersome? Also, would it be wiser to apply in NY first for my first job, because NJ seems to become less attractive with all the hospitals closing and the pay seems to be lower??
  10. I am graduating from a NJ school this December and I really don't know where I should take my NCLEX. I live accross the river from NYC and I have been told that it is easier to get jobs in the city and that the pay is better, also endorsing a rn license in NJ seems to be easier than doing it in NY. My current plan is to take my NCLEX in NY and then transfer it to NJ since my life straddles both states but I am afraid to make a costly mistake. What do u think? Can anyone share his experience or any info on these issues? Thanks
  11. I meant 75K a year (with no OT possible). I am not doing it just for the money but I would not pretend either that it doesnt play an essential role here. I gather from your reply that I got the money part right. Thanx.
  12. I am getting a lot of conflicting info. I am about to start an accelerated BSN and this involves quitting my job (I make about 75K a year but I am looking for greater job security and more money even if it means working OT). Does one really have to clean patients and the like? Do you feel respected? I notice that a lot of nurses complain about the lack of respect. Respect is a big deal for me. Are all the stories about nursing shortage really accurate? From what I am hearing it really depends on the state. Also, did anyone think about the implications of future changes in immigration law (importing foreign nurses) which is likely given the so called shortage (I would hate getting into so much debt and find out later that I will have to compete for jobs that pay less than my current job). I would really appreciate your comments.
  13. I thought the shortage was a national problem, all states being affected more or less??
  14. Can anyone tell me about the quality of the program? Do I need a car to attend the clinicals? How are the teachers and job prospects (salary, etc) for those who just graduated? I am due to start in September. Thanks. PS: Tiriba's comments were helpful, can anyone else confirm or contribute. thanx.
