As of about 10 minutes ago (6:30 pm central time) the status was updated as accepted.

No update on the application. Nor any admission news update on the son site, so maybe all decisions for all tracks not sent out.

The climate in Portland is actually pretty mild but the gray does get to you by Feb/March but I am partial to the greenery of the Northwest and will be returning this fall to Seattle for my DNP at UW. As an OHSU alum and considering one of my favorite classmates is now an associate PMHNP professor I am very partial to the school.

I went to undergrad at OHSU and still have a house in Portland, great area, great school. If you like a laid back metro experience with plenty of access to mountains and within 70miles of the pacific coast with plenty of 20somethings it is worth going to live. With that said I am currently living in San Antonio and wheenever I miss Portland I go up to Austin. They have a similar vibe, but Austin is further from salt water and real mountains but the area still has wonderful access to the great outdoors. I have a few workmate who attended Nursing grad work at Austin and they all liked the program. UT Austin is much cheaper, if cost is any consideration (for myself it is though not number one definitely a tie breaker). Hope this helps some.

The letter was postmarked the 20th, I received it Monday the 23,rd. I am in Texas. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the congrats, I am PMHNP track. FNP is probably most sought out,and the competition I would imagine very stiff.

OHSU or University of Washington would be two stellar traditional programs on the West Coast.

In Oregon we did not have the GN option, so did not have your dilemma. But I treated NCLEX studying like a job. Got up at 0800 worked till 1000 took a break back till lunch at 12 took an hour back studying with an afternoon break and stopped at 4pm. Did that for six weeks. Usually studied about 3 hours each weekend day. Studied Kaplan material and did flash cards. Reviewed text books heavy on weaker subjects. Point of all this--my thought would be take time off work, if feasible, and study full on, so you get it done and over.

Sorry she could not provide you the extension nor provide you some compassion. Hope your father is doing better and that you are able to get through the test and semester.

If you feel that circumstances warranted a extension don't feel bad. You are not the first to ask and you will not be the last. Instead of worrying a about the request spend the time you have studying, so no matter the answer you are prepared.

My take on psych is that done right it can be one of the hardest but fulfilling nursing jobs. You will often finish a shift mentally drained from working with your patients. But psych nursing can be the easiest nursing when done wrong, (hiding behind the nursing station and just doing the bare minimum. In nursing school, I hated psych and thought I was on my way to being a high speed ICU nurse, but a funny thing happened on my way to that goal, I found that after 2 years of Tele cardiac experience, I loved talking and working with patients in emotional distress. Point being, follow your heart but don't be surprised that you might end up somewhere unexpected.

Take a deep breath and don't get ahead of the test results. I hope you are wrong and passed. However, if the worst did happen, chalk it up as a learning experience of what did not work. And the advice I would give if you must start to study again is to pick one.strategy/program and buy into it 100%. The programs are the experts, avoid.trying to mash up bits and pieces. Hopefully, this advice will not be needed and you are just results away from being an RN.

Unfortunately, unable to find any answer on how many they accept. Did see they need a minimum of 8-10 for a track to go.. Sorry not any help with that one. MSDT
