  1. Thanks! That makes much better sense than the answer I got :)
  2. Awesome! Try searching COT 18-06
  3. It's something the Air Force has had to start doing for about 2 years now. Basically it's some sort of approval of your name being placed on some "scroll" in DC. Maybe ask your recruiter about it.....
  4. I made it! I'll be going to August COT if my scroll goes through in time. Has your scroll been approved yet? I hear this can take several months. On another thread someone has created a FB post for August COT Search AF COT 18-06
  5. Great! I know there's another thread with a couple people going in August...they mentioned creating a group but I don't think they have. I've been selected and am suppose to attend COT in August as long as my scroll goes through. Has your scroll been approved yet?
  6. I got word that I was selected!!! Expected to go to COT in August if my scroll goes through in time. Not sure of my first location yet :))
  7. I will post if I hear anything!
  8. The recruiter texted me Monday to say the boards are still suppose to meet this week as far as he was aware. No updates at all today. I've told myself I'll know by June 1.... and will be pleasantly surprised if I find out sooner lol
  9. "New board schedule is up" ? You are referring to July? I'm not sure what that means but it sounds disappointing.
  10. Hey!!!! :) Last I have heard they are still planning to meet the week of 13 May. I was asked to complete my background check packet in case I am selected so that can be ready to submit. My recruiter also double checked with me to make sure I didn't want to apply for a secondary area. Other than that I am patiently waiting and working on getting high scores for the PT test! Fingers crossed! It is a long process but getting soooo close!
  11. YES! I was a bit hesitant to apply since I heard there weren't many positions but I REALLY REALLY would like to be in the OR so I thought I would give it a try. I'm really glad they have opened up the training opportunity, otherwise I was planning to apply to critical care. I am hopeful that if I am not selected at least I will be an alternate so I can apply again in the summer instead of waiting 6 months. Personally, I don't have much OR experience so I know that doesn't help me. Do you have much OR experience? I thought the perioperative consultant was very informative and helpful as well! So far everyone I have encountered has been awesome (even the people at MEPS). Yes fingers crossed! I hope they make room for all that are qualified! I am so super hopeful! I have been working towards this for a while....I can't think of anything else I'd rather do than serve our country! Oh... also, the latest I have about boards is they plan to meet 13 May(odd to me since it's a Sunday) and results to be released 18 May. I am counting on 1 June to know :)
  12. I am all submitted to the April boards and am in the waiting phase. I have applied to the OR residency.
  13. Any updates? I have learned I will need to do an interview with the perioperative nurse consultant. Yay for surprises!!! :) Also, received information there is no HPLRP funding for 2018.
  14. HEY!!! I have seen your vlogs on youtube! Thank you for making those. They are very informative.
  15. Let me know what your recruiter says about the positions open! Maybe mine was wrong (I'm in TN). Hopefully the numbers change to allow room for all the FQ applicants! Best of luck to you too! I will post if I hear any updates. Last the recruiter told me the expected date for the boards to meet is April 24 (let me know if you hear differently about this as well lol!) I'm telling myself I will know by the end of May. This may be the longest 8 weeks of my life lol!
  16. Oh I see! Yes, I can understand getting training/experience in OR ahead of time will improve my chances at that position. I guess I will see what happens with this board and take it from there. I'll be 38 this year so I'd rather not keep waiting and would prefer to enter as soon as possible. But I do need to be in a position I could see myself in for many years. I think this is a recent change, but the recruiter told me you can apply for 2 positions now. If I need to apply to the next board, I will definitely see about OR and clinic as my options.
  17. Yay!!Awesome! I've watched these application threads for a few years now as I have worked my way to time for myself to apply. It's so great to meet other people applying for this board! I am applying for the OR transition too, coming from critical care. I heard there was only one of the OR transition positions open for April boards. Have you heard the same? Have you had your CN interview yet? Mine was last week and I'm still waiting to hear the results.
  18. Thank you so much for the reply. Actually the hospital I work in offers an OR residency twice a year, so I could easily make the move there. I had asked during my CN interview if I should do that and get experience in order to be sure I get OR. She thought no, and seemed to stress there's a huge need for OR nurses in the Air Force. I think I am just getting a little nervous since I know there is only one position open... and I saw other nurses being interviewed both before and after my interview lol.... and that was only at that one location! í ½í¸£ Hmm, I didn't know I could apply as a medsurg/clinic nurse. I wouldn't mind that, that opens up many more location choices too. I'm sure there are even more applicants usually for those positions. Yes, I don't think I want to be committed to the ICU many more years. I think I would if it was my last option to get in the Air Force.
  19. Hi jfratian! Just curious about why getting experience in the OR is easier in the civilian world verses the military? I'm submittimg my packet for the April boards for the OR transition program. I have 5 years RN experience, the last 3 being in level 1 Trauma ICU, and all the certifications and then some, strong LOR, volunteer work etc. I had my CN interview yesterday and am in the fun waiting phase. I think the interview went ok. She was certainly nice. I do think I could've done a bit better. I hear there is only 1 OR transition spot open on this next board.......I'm guessing they would chose someone younger than (and maybe not a single parent) me if they had the option. Thank you for any insight you have about the OR transition option and the people that are usually selected for it.
  20. What area or you all in? I am in southeast. My recruiter had explained to me it could take up to 6 months. It's the first thing we did at the beginning of my application process. He also explained that the scroll is approved for a group of people at time and that if there is error in anyone's file the entire group gets put on hold until it's all correct.
  21. Hello! I know there are only a few spots open for this FQ board meeting in April. I am curious if there is anyone on here going through the process that would like to comment as we go along?? I have been working towards this a few years now and am so excited to finally be able to apply!
  22. If I make it in on the April Boards, I will be at COT in August
  23. Congratulations Pike01! Do you know how many OR residency positions were open this last board? And/or how many are still vacant? Lastly, do you know when the residency begins? Thanks so much!
  24. Any updates for the January boards??
  25. Attempted to delete this-- I spoke to the recruiter and got some answers.
