Hello, I need advice in evaluating a travel RN contract for Atlanta GA. (8 week contract) (36 hours per week) Hourly Rate: $7.25 per hour Overtime Rate: $40.00 per hour Housing Stipend: $3990 / month Per-Diem: $150.00 / month Gross Weekly: $1227 What are the disadvantages of accepting such a low hourly rate? Do I risk being audited by the IRS when filing my taxes next year? Thanks, Sunny

I just had an interview last Thursday for a Staff RN position. I also applied for the Critical Care residency. They told me that they are still interviewing candidates although I do not see the position posted for the residency. I haven't gotten a call back yet. Good luck.

are you a nursing student in nj? if so, then you do not have to take the cna course you would just have to take the state exam and pay the exam fee. if you are not a nursing student, I believe you would have to take the full cna course if i am not mistaken. hope this helps.

In the end, I am kinda glad that I went straight for my BSN although it was expensive. As far as the quality of the courses and some of the instructors, I was a bit disappointed. There are some instructors who teach up to four courses. I found that when you have the same teacher for almost all of your courses, the quality of teaching is poor. I would have liked to experience clinical in different hospitals for the experience. Reason being, if you only practice in one hospital you do not have the chance to see how other facilities operate. My suggestion would be to compare and contrast both programs. Just an FYI, more than likely, you will not begin your clinical courses until your Junior year so you do not need to worry too much. With hospitals closing in northern nj, it is not as easy to find a job. Hospitals like Valley and Hackensack are very selective and want "cream of the crop" students. I went to school in north jersey and live in central nj. I applied for 13 positions throughout nj and ny and was fortunate to have four interviews. I was offered three out of the four. Many hospitals look at internal candidates before they look at external candidates for new grad positions.

I will be graduating from Ramapo this Friday with my BSN. It took me 5 years to complete the nursing program because I switched my major. At Ramapo, you either are placed at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood or Englewood. If you live on campus, Vally is closer and you do not go to the hospital every day. If you are placed at Englewood, all of your clinical and classes are there and you have to drive quite often. The downside is that you do not choose where you are placed. If I were you I would look into the types of clinical experiences you will get from both schools. This is something I was not aware of. At Ramapo, if you are placed at Valley you only do clinical at Valley and you are not exposed to much. You want to get accepted into a nursing program that has various clinical experiences. Overall, Ramapo is a good school. You have to evaluate what is best for you as far as cost, location, etc. Good Luck

I do clinical at Valley and the HR woman came to speak to us and would not quote a starting salary but said that it is somewhere around $26-28 per hour. From what I hear, Valley is one of the lower paying hospitals in Bergen County.

I know an LPN who got her RN through Brookdale approx. a year ago and if i'm not mistaken, I believe that she had to take Bio 111,112, and Micro. But there was some sort of challenge program for LPNs so it didn't take her as long. I did my sciences at Brookdale and did biol 111 in the 10 week summer session and micro in another 10 week session. It was hard but worth it in the end b/c I did not have to do it over a full semester. I did not get my RN from Brookdale, but I transfered my sciences to a BSN program in north NJ and will be graduating in May. Good Luck.

make sure that you do an excellent cover letter that explains any relative work experience and extracurricular activities. When I applied last year, Sheri told me that she pays extra attention to the cover letter so that is what I spent most of my time on and I was accepted. Good luck.

Have you tried the ATI books? I know that they do have an ATI leadership book that may help.

I also just recently purchased a used pair on ebay for about $25 because I have had problems with my heel. I am def convinced and I plan on investing in a new pair for nursing school this Fall.

The same exact thing happened to me while in clinical. I think that it's the mask and all of the above! I will be going through OB rotations this semester and am scared to death about witnessing a C-section. I thought that I was the only one who felt this way, but reading the posts has given me a bit more reassurance that I will eventually make it

But you know I am going into my last semester of nursing school and it has gotten much easier...I just go in like when I have to suction a trach and do my job...I try not to think of the mucus..but instead just the patient and what I need to do to help them!! I work in Dialysis which is a BAD place for people that are affraid of blood..I have shadowed people that have passed out...or thrown up! I desperately need help with this one.... I have just completed my first semester of nursing school and enjoyed it very much. I have been a CNA for two years and can deal with poop, urine, and vomit, but when it comes to blood, I get EXTREMLY queasy. I don't know what it is. It's not that I don't want to see it, but as soon as I see someone begin to bleed, I get nausous and my ears begin to ring. I then become diaphoretic and have to leave the room. My question is: if anyone has had the same problem, how did they overcome it? I am very worried, because I do not want this to effect my career as a nurse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
