New RN.. not so familiar with the system !
Hello Everyone ! I am a foreign educated nurse with 10 years of work experience in Germany. I recently ( 05. Dec ) took the NCLEX - RN and passed on the first try.. yeah, I still cant believe it. I couldnt have done it without this forum !! So, also here a very big Thank YOU ! Here my question. It is a little specific.. ( but I did see that there are some members actually working on post !! ) We are currently stationed on Fort Benning. I am trying to find some info about the application process. I would prefer to work on Fort Benning, since we do stay there as well. But somehow there is no way to find out about open positions on base. Even after talking to Human Resources, they cant give me the contractor list ( I am not a US citizen, but do have a green card, ssn, etc. ), who hires for Martin Army. ACS couldnt help me either. Is there any info someone can give me? I am, of course, looking into the Columbus Area as well ! How do I go about finding a position in the civilian sector? I have heared to just call doctors offices and ask, if they are looking for a nurse. Some say to just post a resume online at monster and wait.. I havent applied for a job in the US yet, so I am trying to make sure, I go about it the right way !! Thank You so, so much !

Foreign Graduate and passed NCLEX - RN on the first try !
Hey everyone !! I took the Nclex- RN on Friday and found the unofficial results online with a pass Grade today !! I am in shock, since I cant believe that it is over !! All the paperwork, the transcripts, the questions... it is over !! The test was "strange". I had 199 questions and most of them were priority questions. I had no clue, if i failed or passed. I did use Suzannes plan and I can not tell you enough " Thank You " for the support !! I do believe that doing practise questions is the key ! I also signed up for the learning extension ( 3 weeks course ) and this helped as well. The questions there were the most similar to the NCLEX. Well, now I will let the news sink in ... Again, thank you everyone for all the help !!

Foreign nurse passed on 3rd try sharing my experience
I guess I will not find out after mid Dec.. lol.. The choice of books and type of questions was overwhelming for me when i started getting ready for the NCLEX. Suzannes plan gave me a "structure" in the confussion and I decided to stick to it. I do feel a lot better after part one. It did take me a while, since I graduated in 1997 and havent been to school since. Even though I was always working, that did not really help for the exam, if not made it harder, since every day life is not really how the NCLEX is. I will keep everyone informed !!

Help with Dosage Calculations
Hey... .. I hope my answer will help you a little. Having iv amount ( 1000ml ) run for 8 h = Devide amount by hours ( 1000 : 8 = 125 ) Devide that by 60, for 60 min. ( 125 : 60 = 2.083333 ) Time this the drops per mil. as described in the question, for example 15 drops per mil. ( 2.083333 x 15 = 31.25 ) That should be your answer. If you have an amount of medication and need to figure out the ml count down to 1 ml. ( order is 125 mg of a medication and the pharmacy mixes it 2500 mg in 100 ml ) 2500 : 100 = 25 (= 25mg medication per ml ) Devide the amount ordered by the result. 125 : 25 = 5 Meaning that 5 ml need to be administered. I have used that way and got good 99% and all the Dosage Questions. Hope it helps.. :wink2:

Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US
Hey, me again, the only thing that I am mainly worried about is, that other states will not endorse a license from either CA, NY or FL. I have some time now, since we are stationed in Germany until beginning of 2008. So, I want to use this time and make sure, that I will be able to start working, once we go to the states and I will not have problems endorsing my license, after finding out our location. Would you happen to know, if there are any problems for a foreign educated nurse with endorsing a license from one of the above mentioned states ? Thank You so much for your time, Johanna

Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US
Hi Suzanne, my husband is in the Military ( so I do have a Green Card and SSN ) and by now I am really not sure what to do... I have been thru all the choices and I am just sceared that I will go to BON NY, CA of FL and end up to go to CGFNS anyway if I will not be able to endorse my license in the state where we will be stationed next. We will aventually live in WI by I dont have a clue where our next duty station will be. Would you not recommend CGFNS anyway? It is just so confusing and somehow I am really not sure what to do. Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US
Hi Suzanne, would You happen to know, how many hours in each subject are required by CGFNS to qualify for the CGFNS Exam? Or at least where I can find out ? CGFNS is not very informative in that matter... That would be really helpfull, Thank You, ericnli

Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US
Hi, I just read your posting about NY. You wrote that NY ist the quickest way, unless you want to work .... We will be moving to Wisconsin sooner or later ( I guess we will see when the military is ready to let us move... ) and I am a german nurse, still not sure which way to choose to get my license in the US. We have at least two years untill we will move, hopefully to WI. To work in Wisconsin, would you happen to know if they would endorse a NY license for a foreign educated nurse? I checked the homepage from WI BON and I am still not sure. If they require the CGFNS, I might as well go for that. Thanks again, Johanna

Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US
Hi Suzanne, thank You for your reply. I am sorry for not making myself clear in the first posting. I am so thankful for your information. It is really confusing sometimes and it just so great to have somebody to ask. Well, I am not sure where we will be once in the US since my husband is in the ARMY and we do not have a clue where he will get stationed next. We are going to be in Germany until end of 2007, but I spend two years dealing with CGFNS while we lived in Seattle, WA and I would like to be " prepared " better once we have to move back to the US. I would of course travel to London or where ever nessasary to sit in on the exam, but it does sound so much more promising and easier than CGFNS. I never thought about Vermont, since I didnt know that it was an option. Would you reather recommand Vermont before California in my situation? I will have to endorse my license once we move back anyway, so I am not set on a state to apply in. Thanks again, Johanna

Hi.. I recieved the recommandation to go to CA from you. I guess I forgot to mention in my posting, that I do already have a Green Card as well as the SSN. Does that change anything? I haven't send anything yet, so I can change to a different state.. Thank You for such a quick response. Johanna

Hi Suzanne !! It has been a while, since I last posted. But I recieved good advice from you back in September. Well, now I am ready to start on the application for the RN in California. I do have a questions. Is there any way to find the exact hours needed to qualify for the NCLEX? How many hours ( theory & lab/clinical )do I need to have in Anatomy & Physiology Microbiology Medical Nursing Surgical Nursing Obstetric Nursing Pediatric Nursing Psychiatric Nursing? Thank You again for your time!! Johanna

Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US
Hi, thank You for such a quick answer. CA sounds great. Well, anything that will get me around CGFNS sounds great. I checked the BON CA. I might need some help with filling out some of that paperwork, once I start submitting the forms. So CA requests the transcripts from my school directly? Just fill out the Application and that's it? Sounds sssoooo much easier than CGFNS, almost to good to be true! Would I need the Fingerprint card as well? I am ready to start applying for sitting in the NCLEX. With CGFNS it seames like an almost impossible thing to do.. Thank You so much for "opening new ways" for me. Johanna

Quickest Way for Getting Things Done and Licensed in US
Hi Suzanne and other members.. I am Johanna.. and new here. .. I just registered today after reading the postings. I recieved that link from someone in a different forum, trying to find some help regarding CGFNS. I have spend the last two years trying to get registered for the CGFNS Exam. After endless calls to them and many, many letters I am so :angryfire . I am sure that I did do a lot wrong with filling out my paperwork, but it is very confusing !! Since it still hasnt brought me any closer to my RN License, I am trying NY! I finished nursing school in Germany and worked five years. I have secondary school to cover my high school diploma and I have also taken the TOEFL already, which probably will expire soon anyways... With my husband being in the Military, I do have a Green Card and SSN. Since we are not sure where our next tour will station us, I would like to prepare and work on getting my license, but not waste any more time on CGFNS Exam, since I found out it is not needed anyway. I found out, that NY will issue me a license ( after, of course going through the application etc. ) and this will be exepted in other states ( after again some paperwork ) . Suzanne, did I understand all this correctly? I am trying to avoid asking the same questions again and again. Sorry.. I have printed the NY Application ( Form 1 ) and found the link for CGFNS. Now, of course my questions: Do I file them at the same time? And do both of them have to be notarized? The way I see it, I just send in the Forms and $$ and they take care at anything else? An personal issue: Since we do not know, where the military will station us next and mostly important when, how good is a license for? I would want to get my license (NY) let us say end 2006 and not be able to go to the states to work for the next four years. How long do I have, untill I will have to go through everything over again? @ Moni... thank You for the link. It is really helpfull !! Suzanne, thank You for your time and information. Have a great day, Johanna Thank You so much... Johanna
