Are some environments beyond hope?
If your gut is telling you that it is not the proper enviroment in which you want to work in GET OUT!! I think you should enjoy being a nurse and one main way to do that is to enjoy getting out of bed and going to work everyday. Cause in the long run you and your family suffer from all the stress and worry! I also have worked in a enviroment like that actually just recently and am in legal ligation because of it, I should of got out and left when I felt I should have, but I didnt for the sake of my pt's and my 3 children that I raise by myself. Looking for a new job is awful but I would much rather do this than dealing with that. But only you know what to do. Good Luck and Best wishes

Nurse Not Doing Her Job
I am currently going through some stuff at my job also, not only does it involve her as a nurse but also as a person. I was raised not to lie no matter what et can not stand any person who can do that. So my story is very long but I had to have a meeting with the DON et this nurse last week, it was not what I thought it was going to be, et for some reason alot of my co-workers are using my name for things they have done et blaming me for everything, but I still go to work et smile cause when we took that oath we swore we would act in a professional matter at all times!!!!(and I hold myself to that) So anyways the DON, ADON seem to baby this nurse, and I am not the only one with issues. She has actually put residents in harm, with residents being sent to hosp for what she has caused, she has also falsified records, so with all this other stuff the DON wrote me a letter stating that she understood I had issues with the practice of this nurse and that I needed to understand that It is being dealt with et that I just do not always know the outcome. Which after I thought about it she is right. It is there legal responsibility to keep discipline actions or so forth confidental. So just be patient and you may see things change, or you may actually be able to see the discipline for yourself. I can honestly say that over the last week I have seen her do things different, slight changes but one step at a time. ME

Did you ever "neglect" a patient???
Oh yes, and I have had to be the one to turn in a nurse for JOB ABONDENMENT, which is the term they use. But when your investigated for it they charge you with neglet of a patient, or patients, depending on your setting. Also depending on the state you live in your license may be revoked for that charge. It is a serious issue et the nursing board takes it serious. Me

Question to nurses who have worked LTC AND Acute Care
Well I have always worked LTC, well except for a short time which was in a hospital et there were to many chiefs et not enough indians for me!! I have been charge nurse et managment in LTC. Like you had said it depends on the facility you work for, I have worked for facilities that have been pretty much good, there are facilities here who do total patient care but you only have 4 patients. I have found that I get more out of my CNA'S et respect if I attempt to help them, which I do. But even if you dont I feel you can still get that respect. We have awesome CNA'S but I think the facility makes them, if they can get away with it they will!! ME

Question to nurses who have worked LTC AND Acute Care
Fortunately I have been a LTC nurse for a long part of my career. I have found that I enjoy the LTC aspect due to the fact that you get to know your pt's on a individual basis. I also have been a MCR charge nurse in LTC that at times I feel we are running a acute hosp. I work for a facility that takes about anything so I get the advantage from the facility of not being scared to take the individuals that other facilities will not take. We do everything from trachs to bariatrics, psych et so forth. I belive it all depends on the facility et the people you work for (cause I have worked for some bad ones)

Please help with Nursing 101....
I have always been taught that if it is greater than 2ml you give it IM, anything under you can give SQ. But maybe the med is to hard on the tissue and needs to be given IM. I personally would contact the pharmacy you use for the medication et ask them, they usually know. Your boss will appreciate your honesty!!!

Please help with Nursing 101....
In all my years of nursing I have found that it is better for you to admit to your mistakes right away, it is better for you to tell than for them to find out later.

Med error
I am sure most of us have made them, some worse than others. Just take a breath and learn from your mistakes that is the biggest thing. Take everything as a learning experience and move on with a smile!!! :) :)
