  1. I had been at the position 2 days and they hadn't even met me. Your post was just plain ugly for no reason, but I see you at least sign your emails appropriately. SHE SAID SHE WAS PUSHED. I've precepted dozens of people and not once have I had the desire to physically push anyone. While it turned out to be a hip chuck, it's still wrong although easily explained off. This person may be experienced and not really need the precepting. What happens to the new person who does need coaching and is treated this way?
  2. I wish I could say this was isolated and would probably never happen again, but I've run into many situations similar. Starting in NICU, I ran into people who took eat their young to a whole new level. The second shift someone blatantly stated "I'm not precepting. They don't pay me for that!" and it went down hill from there. Luckily, If I have any submissive cells in my body, we haven't been introduced :) I have run into many clique situations and hatefulness. I'd be careful to set some kind of limit with that person though, that just doesn't sound acceptable to me. Hopefully orientation isn't too long, but I'm not so sure I'd wouldn't ask for a more compatible preceptor and let people know that person seems 'stressed' or something....and you are so 'worried' about her.....
  3. What am I missing here? She PUSHED you? Oh hell no. I've dealt with many inexperience, insecure, bossy, rude, mean, and nurses with just no precepting skill at all; but it would be a cold day when someone pushed me. I don't think I've ever come across as someone you would consider doing that to. I go out of my way not to rock boats, but being disrespected crosses the line. While I agree with all of the thoughts expressed....seriously? she pushed you out of the way? There would have to be some serious discussion with someone. Are you sure you're not coming across as someone who is insecure or less than capable? I'm just at a loss why you would tolerate such disrespect.....
  4. We are always told everywhere it is against policy and you can be fired for discussing salaries. I'd like the data source on the comment that it is illegal. I think people SHOULD discuss compensation, and we wouldn't be such suckers....
  5. OMG...I got the what kind of tree are you one. I said do you mean like a web document object model tree? I'd be the application interface I guess. Half of them were laughing, especially a guy on the end who was especially amused...but the woman who asked was just looking dumbfounded. She asked another question and I heard the guy on the end say 'geek'. They moved on. After the interview as someone was walking me out, I said, did they mean trees like in the forest? She said your answer was perfect, but not what most people say.
  6. AMEN! Great post! I'm so sick of the college I'm going to feeding students the line of BS that older nurses did what they were told and didn't question anything or use evidence based practice. If you say anything to argue that ADN nurses were professional, stayed cutting edge with hospital classes, conferences, and other learning, and did not just do things the way they were always told to, you would get a 0 and your post removed. MOST of this garbage they're feeding students is just reinventing the wheel. I never wore the cap (not required in ICU areas) and we were allowed to wear pants but the uniform still had to be white.
  7. I guess I'm kinda stunned you've been in nursing this long and never been lied to. I'm lied to quite frequently. Last position I was told I would have complete training for a new area. It consisted of less than two weeks of going through what needed done urgently. No training manual, resource book, checkoff list of things to be reviewed...absolutely nada. After a week, the other people were getting behind in their work and irritated with having to train me. I was even told-you travel people come and don't know what your doing, leave, and we're stuck with a huge mess to clean up. Wow. Worst assignment ever dealing with irritated, stressed people and rolled eyes when I asked anything. I learned 5 new softwares in less than 2 weeks. Another assignment, NOTHING was what I was told. I went to the director of nursing and said "this is NOT what you told me....her reply? Well, it might change." They think once you're there, you're stuck. Another position I was given TWO patients more than staff, every morning staff would take the easy patient off of my team and change them out with rough patients, THEN had the nerve to try to dump a new psychotic admit on me. I went to the manager stating ENOUGH, I'm not taking this admit when I already have 2 more patients and much higher acuity patients. Her response? Well, you have more experience. I SWEAR! She made one of them take my most stable patient and I still got the dump. I could go on for an hour. I'd jump that ship. You will never be appreciated there, the minute you set a limit you'll be the bad guy. I've done rehab and LTAC, RUN if you have a better option. There is nothing wrong with saying it just wasn't a good fit...the buzz word for HR. Just don't go into negatives at a job interview. I wouldn't even mention it if you were there only a really short time.
  8. I'm old enough to remember hearing LPN's say the same thing. I worked with LPN's who did everything in ICU but IVP, now you almost never see one in an ICU. I watched nurses with decades of experience get demoted for not having a bsn after being told they had three years or else...because the hospital wanted magnet status. IS the ANA YOUR friend????
  9. The BSN in TEN law they were pushing grandfathered in those who are working in nursing already. My question is, if approx. 65 percent of nurses are associates....why do we have NO VOICE?
  10. My program took down my discussion post and gave me a 0 for not drinking the Kool Aid and saying bs that I'm soooo much better a nurse because of the degree change. The ANA is NOT my friend, this is all a money making racket. The lack of respect and support for experienced nurses is appalling. I'm strongly resent being forced to lie. I'm all for education but this slam to experienced nurses is ridiculous. It infuriates me to hear bs like well AS degree nurses just do what they were told because that's how it was always done. That is the biggest bs crock of crap I ever heard. The BSN has made no change in my nursing, only made it possible to remain employed.
