IV in Emergency?
I think you're in the wrong forum. Also did you read what the thread was actually about?
-
Diet Advice
I think there is a thread somewhere on healthy living, look that up.

Public Breastfeeding
I'm generally curious here, what do your kids think breasts are for?

First Names & "Professionalism"
What an interesting thread. This name system you guys have is so complex and on so many levels. I come from a country (Iceland) where calling anyone by their last name sound's ridiculous as it's never done. As for respect, well the president is called Mr and full name and probably the rest of them politicians are too (it's been a while, moved away).

When circ's go bad...
As for how they do them over here, they simply dont, not on babies anyway. I have seen one circumsision on an adult who had tight foreskin and that was done under an epidural. Like I said before I read through all the posts on the board and found that there was quite a lot of mentioning of circs being done without any anaesthesia. That's what got me so worked up in the first place. I'm glad to hear that it's not always painful.

When circ's go bad...
Yes that's correct. Thank you for putting it into better wording.

When circ's go bad...
Yup I'm not used to circumsised memberes, never even seen one. All I see is a newborn who has a part of them cut off. I have read various reasons why people do it but still cant understand it. I highlighted that this was my personal opinion. I dont think people who have their sons circumsised are abusers (someone asked), I just see a kid being hurt. Maybe that's not such a clear thought but frankly my original post came after I read through almost all the thread and I was feeling emotional. As for pericare on uncircumsised memberes, well that's all I've ever done. Atm I work in LTC and the memberes I've encountered in there are all in fine condition (I read on another board someone's argument being that the foreskin should be cut to prevent any infection setting in from bad hygene once the guy ends up in a nursing home). TweetiePieRN, I'm curious why you find uncircunsised member yucky. Is it because you've seen too many dirty ones, because it has extra flesh hanging there or some other reason?

When circ's go bad...
It would be if parents decided to have their kids ears pinned back just because they happen to have a set of ears that might grow to stick out in the future and cause them to be bullied. Personally I think circumcition = child abuse.

I'm supposed to wear an "Ask me if I washed my hands!" button?!
That's really comendable.

I'm supposed to wear an "Ask me if I washed my hands!" button?!
One thing I dont get about this thread. One is supposed to wash their hands before entering a patient's room right? So if the activity of washing is happening outside the room why would the patient ever see a nurse wash her hands? So even if you dont see your nurse wash her hands she may have done so before entering your room. Those badges seem like an awful idea. I too would be insaulted to have to wear something like that.

12N Sleeping During Break
There is two hour overlap on the morning shift (0700-1500) and the evening shift (1330-2130). I have worked in Finland, Iceland and Spain and all of those had only 8 hour shifts for morning and evening but the night shift was different. I've heard that in Sweden nurses get to sleep but I dont know if that was just an isolated incident in one nursing home or not. .

Is it selfish not to get a Flu Shot?
Slightly off topic but dont you guys get sick leave? :uhoh21: I noticed several times people writing about having to take vacation days for being ill or being without pay.

Weird, Odd Nurses Behavior.....
One thing baffles me, those of you who strip of your scrubs when you get home, arent you bothered by sitting in your cars in the dirty scrubs? Doesnt the hospital offer facilities to change clothes? I'd hate to wear my work clothes outside of the hospital and especially in the car if I thought they were icky.

Day & Evening Shift at LTC
It's much nicer to work when you have orientation. I only got orientation after I had been at the facility for 3 weeks :chuckle: I spent those 3 weeks asking people a lot (although sometimes i was the only nurse and had no one to ask) and wondering about my duties. In Finland the duties of the practical nurses and nurses are quite similar. They do wound treatments and pass meds too (except for narcotics) although if there is a PRN they have to ask it of me.

It's a Hospital, Not a Hotel (Gripe)
I'm floored. I'm also very happy to be in Finland where most hospitals are state run. Let's talk about meals. Patients get meals. The meals contain food, there is no choise in what they get they just get what's been prepared for the whole hospital. Of course vegetarians or people on special diets are catered for but they also get what is prepared that day in those cases. Visitors do not get any snacks nor anything. There is a cafeteria that's open during the day. It really amazes me that some hospitals are feeding visitors. Hell when I was a little girl of 12 years comming to see my mom who was in rehabilitation after having a stroke I never expected anything off the nurses. In that place (which was actually in Iceland, I moved countries) served meals in a dining room and usually if I was there at dinner time the nurses would offer me something. Neither me nor my mom never asked anything of them for me. NB the food was served cafeteria style, not on trays so they usually did have something left over. And all the other stories of different ways of kissing ass.
