How do you handle family members who want to impose their will on oriented patients?
I agree. I can be blunt as well but most times I am nice about explaining that their loved one is the patient and in full control of themselves. They in essence are our bosses not some stupid wanna be web MD doctor. I am nice about it though.

Are nurses forced to assist abortions?
One might say you would like to abort this thread? Lol

Are nurses forced to assist abortions?
I look at things a little more objectively. In the beginning it's just cells, building something, once the heart starts, well, the lights are on. It's not necessarily a person with thoughts and emotions but it is a living thing. The person that can look at a baby AT ANY STAGE and kill it, because you can drape any word around it you like it's killing something, that person is as dead as the fetus your killing. That being said you might think I am pro life.....abortion is too complex an issue to be black or white. I have kids and can't even think about abortion but I wouldn't take away the right of someone to do with their body what they need to. Then again the choice in question does relate to more than one person, it just takes place inside one of the person's body. Complex to say the least. Neo, I agree with you.

Help! Accused giving more narcotics than peers
Because Unions are fundamentally evil. I participated in union leadership at one point and behind the scenes they do not care about you. They care about money, getting free things and safety for themselves. That's why I flipped and am against it. Two different unions, sadly same story.

Lol, must be a union person

Are nurses forced to assist abortions?
I am not Catholic, or really religious of any kind so your wrong if you think I am adhering to papal law. No I am saying it is against the laws of NATURE. I say this because each living think has a purpose, from the mosquito that lives for a few hours to be eaten to the spider that lives a few months that eats him. A purpose. That purpose to the be born, fill a role and die.....naturally. Murder, in whatever way you call it, euthanization, abortion, murder, whatever is a unnatural shortening of that life, thus I see it as unnatural. The world would indeed be an uglier place if we did what we could live with because currently the world is rotting cesspool of filth where even the kindest person would step on your back to go over a puddle if the right circumstances presented itself. We should adhere to a higher set of ideals, if we did then the things we could "life with" would be different. That being said I don't think we should ignore religion or legal crap. Those things are just like locks, they keep honest and good people honest and good. Without laws or religion which is a different set of laws we would be a society of anarchy. It's too bad that we just couldn't be good without the promise of being locked up or a fiery hell.

bullying
Look, I am not in favor of "bullying" but it's just the latest buzz word. With exceptions most people that complain of bullying don't stand up for themselves. As kids they need to learn it so they won't be harassed or can learn to be independent and strong for the future. The adults that can't take a little ribbing or yes, even more need to stick up for themselves or they will be targets all through life, their nursing career included. I don't advocate violence but there are a million ways to stick up for yourself other than violence. Let’s not forget, we're talking about adults in nursing school, a profession that, HELLO should be geared around compassion and kindness, if you have some jackass that’s doing this then they shouldn't be in this profession. Then again I think Danlee needs to man up, really? "Excluded, laughing, and ridiculing (which could mean anything from making fun of you for having toilet paper stuck to your shoe to saying you such for getting a D on a test)". Really? We're not talking about ACTUAL bullying which used to mean physical violence, which is funny that DanLee's automatic instinct is to consider punching someone. Honestly, it looks like he is the one with a slight problem and needs to consider if what he's seeing is "bullying" or if he's a little too thin skinned and just needs to laugh it off.

bullying
Seriously? Come on, "bullying" is a joke! I was bullied upon, and maybe even did some a few times. We are getting to be too soft of a society. I bet your in favor of the "everybody is a winner" mentality. Yea, that will get you far. There ARE winners and their ARE loosers, there are more that are in the middle but we strive to be better. Bullying? If you can't take care of yourself then maybe you should learn and build some caracter. Besides, who gives a crap what some "bully" thinks, he or she probably is a moron who has low self esteem.

I agree to fight completely, that being said I don't shy away from a fight. You don't have to "fight" per se either. When it happens you can, using a slightly louder voice "ouch! wow, are you really going to hit a girl? Seriously? Darn, I thought you were supposed to do no harm? Boy "Stanley", you must have some problems at home to come here and act like this. Do you need a hug? Because I will give it to you if you need one". Embarrass him, no report needed. I did something similar a few years ago. I kept referring to this guy as Stanley; "hey Stanley, hows it going Stanley". Finally a few weeks when by and he asked me why I was calling him that, (the whole time his attitude was completely changed to one of concern and diminished value on himself). I looked him square in the face and said it's because your such a tool! I chuckled and walked away. That guy never bothered me again and when we did have to talk it was like someone shrunk him two sizes. Funny thing, two other co workers started referring to him as Stanley. Lol

Are nurses forced to assist abortions?
Your naive if you thing that decisions aren't made every day or wars started because of religion. Catholics restrict birth control and abortion, perhaps I shouldn't have said "christian" and instead had been more specific to a certain religion. Most of the "Christians" I know are against it and think that it's against the laws of nature or something like that. I agree that this is an issue that is in a grey area that can't be one or the other. We're in a decaying country that uses religion or lack their of for political purposes or just to get 15 minutes of fame. Religion is a guide, a guide for you to take or leave certain things. Legally? Hmmmmm, I spoke to a friend who is a lawyer, he says no, you can't be forced to do that. That being said we also live in a society where that could put you on a "non conforming" list in your facility. I have seen that MANY times. Bottom line, ignore all the religion and legal crap that we all talk about, do what you can live with.

Unionized vs Non Unionized hospitals
Non Union is way better, I have worked in both and I have found that the union nurses are lazy and they DONT start out that way. They get used to something for nothing and having some bully (the union) force issues and changes on the hospital. They like getting away with everything and patient care goes down. Stay away, it will ruin you like unions are ruining the world. They started out with a great idea but like so many things have been perverted into something useless and harmful.

Patients need a nurse, not a computer
Lol, don't be so negative. The statistics of information to patient health over the last 10, 20, 30 years is staggering. The more information we have the better we can assist our patients. Computers are not to be feared, they help us and there is no way that we will be replaced any time soon. Computers and sophisticated machines assist doctors in complicated procedures and WebMD makes everyone with a mouse think they can diagnose themselves but there will be no replacing the physician any time soon. Embrace the computers, learn about whats coming and be on the forefront of those changes, you will be happy you did.

Leaving the nurse profession
Everyone has to cut their teeth and "put their time in". I have been in some crazy places and wanted to quit a few times myself. It gets better, you find a facility and/or a crew that works for you. Your at the beginning so that's great, you have flexibility to make decisions that will shape your career and you are not pigeon holed into anything yet. Stay flexible and don't get discouraged.

Help! Accused giving more narcotics than peers
First off, your former military so thank you for your service. I agree with some of our peers, if your dispensing there should be documentation backing up what your doing. It's not like your pulling narcs and running through the halls throwing pills at people so if there is an order we fill it so to speak. I am not saying this in an accusatory way but is there a reason that you may have been singled out? Have you ****** off anyone? If your doing everything correct and following SOP then maybe someone has it out for you. Seek legal advice and always document everything so you have a paper trail. This isn't CA is it? They are bat **** crazy there, I spent 6 months there and I still have nightmares....ooOooo.
