Experienced nurse to start on bottom of band 5??
Thank you so much for your replies... it comforting to know that others have gone thru the same. I will hold the manager to her word and present all my previous experience and gently push for my experience to be recognized. I feel very blessed to have gotten this job literally 15' away from home, and at such a hard time for nurses.

Experienced nurse to start on bottom of band 5??
Applied for a band 5 job, and got a the job! When I asked what scale they would be starting my wage on, they replied that probably on a bottom five and then my CV would be remitted to payroll whom would readjust it accordingly. Is this the normal procedure or are they taking advantage of the lack of jobs to buy nurses on the cheap! I have almost 6 years experience, 4 in the NHS and 2 in the private sector. I really want this job cs it is close to home, but feel demoralized at having to start all over! Any comments would be very appreciated.

Waiting List Initiative
- spain
Yes Spain is beautiful, but one of the reasons I emigrated to UK was the lack of jobs for nurses..... we train too many!- Waiting List Initiative
The same thing is happening in my work as well!! The same people's names go on the list week after week. The funny thing about it is that one of the senior nurses that always puts her name down will not do on call nor lates nor week ends for the department!! Curiously this is accepted and glossed over by the sister. Unfairness that absolutely stinks!- How slow is the NHS?
I qualified in Aberdeen in 2004 and had to move to Newcastle for a job. One of the reasons was that the university there churns out aprox 300+ new nurses every year and does not have room for all of them. Why don't you contact British Nursing Agency, I worked for them a while and when they get to know you... it is possible to earn quite a tidy sum.- Shouold I stay or should I go?
Dear Rocknurse It sounds like you are homesick! What you feel is felt by every immigrant living in a foreign country, including me living in the UK. Just remember.... you do have a choice and that makes you richer that 90% of humanity. You can decide where to live and work! All the best- Shouold I stay or should I go?
OGP, rates are $8000 if I pass NCLEX and then decide to not go to USA. US$25000 if after reaching USA I "fail to comply with the terms and conditions of the Agreement... on demand as liquidated damages". Thank you so much for your replies... please keep them coming !- Shouold I stay or should I go?
I am having the same thots.... I moved from Spain to UK 6 years ago, did my 1st level training graduated in 2004 all with the intention of moving eventually to the States. Now after 2 years having qualified my daughter will be marrying a Scotmans (im a single parent) and will be living 4 hours away from me as she does now. If I continue ... I will arrive in USA at 50 years of age! Is that too old? Plus I just got OGP interview pack today and if I don't comply with the 3000+ hours I would owe them 24000 US$ SCARY Your comments would be most appreciated!- HEALTH INSURANCE for USA
So tell me, after all the problems you have encountered, would you still consider emigrating to USA as a positive ? Just wondering as I hope to some year soon!- What do I DO??
Dear Silly; You must be feeling really down. What a shame... only 2 weeks! I would eat humble pie and try to get back on the course if you really want to do OR nursing. Your instructor is actually preparing you for real life in the OR. It is a very very hard environment where things happen fast and patients are completely under our supervision and care. You have to be able to tolerate undesirable people and actually work effectively with them for the good of your patient. Unfortunately there will always be the blue-eyed favorites in life. Because in spite of all you have heard, life is not perfect and neither are we! Quite frankly, leaving your course because you could not stand the pressure does not speak highly of your skills of adaptability and flexibility.... and yes I do not know what it was like. But perhaps you could talk with people higher up and change lecturer... heck blame the pms but try to get back and finish. If you cant face up to that, maybe OR is not for you, and you are far better knowing now than wasting your time.- Hostile environment
Dear Pam; I so totally understand your feelings. We do not have scrub tecn. here in UK, but there is a very hostile environment where I work amonst the RN's. I have reached the conclusion that some people have been in their job so long, that they have lost the vision of why they went into to nursing. Some seem to delight in stirring up trouble especially for new staff because in some twisted way this makes them feel better about themselves, and gives them a power trip. I suppose it is because they feel very threatened by your expertise and this is the only way they see of pulling you down. Do not let them succeed. The way I have dealt with the problem is to take a step back and think about the job. Do I really want it for the time being? What period of time am I willing to invest in it to see it possibly get better? We all have our standards of excellence, and must take decisions that can affect them on a daily basis. Be professional, do not lower yourself to their level of horizontal harrassment and gossip. Someone, somewhere is watching and you will be noticed. If after a time you still see no improvement, just move on! It is not a failure... it is a new opportunity. So go girl, chin up ... chest out... it sounds like your patients really need you right there!- Surgeon's Preference Card
Hi there girls; (and boys): spin: Where I work we still have physical cards, which are rather battered and getting outdated. We are not able to aspire yet to computerized cards, so was hopeful that you would be willing to share some model of the cards you use or used to use, so I can help update our system. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.- Got in, now more ?'s!!
Guys, when I have read your responses I remembered why I love OR nursing!! I've been in OR 1 year and half now, Ortho theatres exclusively except when I'm on call. I came right after training, but had a little experience of agency under my belt. Altho it was only being in charge of an elderly's home, it did a lot towards boosting my confidence, and makes me know that I am a good nurse in spite of team members sometimes making you feel ignorant. I'm beginning to feel more confident now and ready to explore other specialities. Sometimes I would leave, but when it comes down to crunch time I love OR too much!!:rotfl::rotfl:- 1st Level Nurse trained in Adult Nursing
Follower, can you tell me if yu did peds on a hospital ward? Are yu going with an agency or on yr own?- 1st Level Nurse trained in Adult Nursing
Maybe not, did you do a paediatrics placement on the wards? (I didn't, I did my peds placement in a nursery). Who are you going to the states with, on yr own or with an agency. Am very keen to know!- 1st Level Nurse trained in Adult Nursing
If you are a UK trained 1st Level Nurse trained in Adult Nursing (Project 2000) and have made it to the States to work.... Please share with us how you did it. How and with who did you make up the necessary ped hours. I am terribly frustrated that after all the hard work of uni, two years on the job. I am still no closer to my desire to be able to work in the States. Thank you for sharing your info,- help! Are surgical techs and RNs the same??
Thank you Grimmy for replying I'm very pleased to hear I would be able to scrub in US of A. May bump into you someday! Hopefully not when you're scrubbed!!:chuckle- help! Are surgical techs and RNs the same??
I am a rn or in Great Britain, hoping some day to get to the States to work. However here in Britain, the RNs scrub and circulate. The responsibility of counts and sharps falls equally on the count nurse and the scrub nurse. Scrubbing for me is the absolute favorite part of my job, so will I not be able to scrub in the States? ....- Verbal Abuse in OR
No he did not continue after I made my remark. Does that make it acceptable? - spain
